Angularly Movable About Horizontal Axis Patents (Class 297/408)
  • Patent number: 4840428
Abstract: A head rest adjusting device using a friction mechanism, which permits the forward and backward rotative adjustment of the head rest relative to a head rest stay. The friction mechanism comprises a substantially U-shaped leaf spring receiving the head rest stay therein, and a protruding resilient section is formed on the folded area of the leaf spring so as to give an additional resiliency to the leaf spring per se and thus provide a stable proper friction against the rotation of the head rest about the stay.

  • Patent number: 4834456
Abstract: A rear headrest adjusting arrangement in a motor vehicle has a headrest pivot bearing unit that is fixed at the seat and at which two head pad holding devices are disposed that are spaced away from one another in the direction of the pivotal axis. A pivot bearing shaft is provided that has two connecting parts for the holding devices, the connecting parts being spaced away from one another and being connected with the pivot bearing shaft in a torsionally fixed way. A driving motor is provided adjacent to the pivot bearing shaft, the driving motor having a motor shaft that with respect to its axis is parallel to the pivot bearing shaft and having a gearbox that connects the motor shaft with the pivot bearing shaft. This provides the possibility of a motor-driven headrest adjusting arrangement with little installation space for the pivot bearing unit.

  • Patent number: 4375902
Abstract: A dental chair headrest which may be positioned and locked in a predetermined angular orientation relative to the seat back. A support base allows height adjustment and has a headrest frame pivotally connected thereto. The locking mechanism includes a locking shaft pivotally connected to the support base and extending through a bore within a locking block pivotally connected to the headrest frame. Alignment of the locking shaft and bore allows the adjustment of the headrest angle, and pivoting the locking block engages the edges of the bore with the surface of the locking shaft to retain the locking shaft in a predetermined position within the bore. The headrest is covered by a resilient material, and a positioning lever extends from the locking block to a location where the positioning lever may be actuated by pressure on the resilient material to disengage the locking block from the locking shaft.

  • Patent number: 4370898
Abstract: A device for fastening a first member such as a head rest relative to a second member such as a head rest supporting member in an inclining adjustable manner, including a one-way ratchet and pawl mechanism incorporated between the two relatively rotatable members, wherein the pawl is driven out of engagement with the ratchets when the two relatively rotatable members have been brought to an extreme relative position allowed by one-way sliding engagement of the ratchets and the pawl, and a control member which catches and holds the driven up pawl at the extreme relative rotational position and releases the pawl when the two relatively rotational members have been brought to the other extreme relative rotational position so as to make the pawl again engage the ratchets at the second mentioned relative rotational position.
