  • Patent number: 4881291
Abstract: A hand held device is herein provided for selectively scraping a surface layer from the face of a lottery ticket or the like, with this device having a housing member upon which a blade is mounted, with the housing having a central cavity for catching and retaining the scraped material removed from the lottery ticket. My novel device comprises upper and lower, generally triangularly shaped members mounted in a spaced apart relationship, and bounded by sidewalls. These sidewalls serve with the upper and lower members to define the central cavity. The blade for scraping the surface of the lottery ticket is supported at a front corner of my device, and an opening is disposed directly above the blade, and generally parallel therewith. This opening makes it readily possible for material scraped from the lottery ticket to enter my device and be retained in the central cavity.

  • Patent number: 4852261
Abstract: The invention relates to a knife insert for tools with an oscillating head, preferably of the type used for cutting open rubber or adhesive beading strips around windscreens and having a cutting face bounded by one or a plurality of cutting edges. When producing such a knife, in order to be able to use less expensive material and in order to be able considerably to reduce the reciprocating movements of the shank when driven by a tool which performs oscillatory rotary movements, it is according to the invention proposed that the knife be angled over in an L-shape at right-angles to its cutting face, the cutting face forming a first leg of the L, and the second leg of the L which extends substantially at a right-angle from the cutting face comprising a connecting element for connection to an actuating tool.

  • Patent number: 4829674
Abstract: The specification discloses a hand held surface shaping tool for shaping hardening filler applied to a work surface. The tool comprises an elongate blade member and an elongate blade holder. The blade member includes a serrated edge extending generally along its length for removing filler from the work surface when the blade is wiped across the hardened filler with the blade oriented generally perpendicular to its direction of movement. The holder has a length approximating the length of the blade member, and is configured to support the blade member substantially along its length in a predetermined fixed configuration. In one embodiment, the holder supports the blade in a bowed configuration so that the blade edge can be brought into engagement along its length with a concave or convex work surface by leaning the tool toward or away from the surface.

Abstract: A scraper may be composed of a front portion, including a guard portion, hingeably connected to a handle portion. The handle portion includes a blade portion for receiving and retaining a cutting blade. The front portion is scored to allow the guard portion to fold against the top face of the handle portion, thereby substantially enclosing the blade and acting to provide protection for various objects and personnel from inadvertent contact with the sharp cutting blade when the scraper is not in use. When use of the scraper is desired, the front portion is folded against the bottom face of the handle portion thereby exposing the cutting edge of the blade.

  • Patent number: 4542554
Abstract: A low cost scraping implement has a plastic, elongated handle component with a recess in one surface thereof. A square of plate glass is held in the recess between a pair of downwardly extending safety, side surfaces in the handle by a retaining plate provided with a complementary recess. A bolt is received in aligned countersunk openings drilled through the handle member and the retaining plate and a nut threaded onto the shank of the bolt draws the retaining plate towards the handle member to clamp the glass square in place. The glass square can be repositioned within the recess to present eight different scraping edges. A worn or broken glass plate can be readily replaced to renew the scraper.

  • Patent number: 4531254
Abstract: A tool for removing paint from sheet metal gutters having a central ogee portion connected to two straight, vertical portions. The scraper includes a flat blade having an edge whose contour matches very closely the shape of the gutter. In particular, it approximates the exterior configuration of the gutter on a transverse cross-sectional view. The contour, however, has a slightly greater height than that displayed by the gutter; this allows the horizontal extensions of the blade to pass over the upper and lower edges of the gutter to effectuate contact with the gutter's vertical face. Cleaning the upper and lower horizontal surfaces of the gutter then merely requires shifting the blade downward to clean the former and upward for the latter. An extended handle on the blade allows its use by a workman located at some distance from the gutter. To further facilitate its use at a distance from the gutter, the handle may pivot relative to the blade.

  • Patent number: 4530259
Abstract: A grinding instrument, especially adapted to permit wearer adjustment of dentures, comprises an S-shaped handle, a straight shaft and a blade, the handle, shaft and blade all being integral sequential members of a unitary, elongated cylindrical wire. In a preferred embodiment the wire is made of a seven and one-half inch length of four millimeter diameter carbon steel wire in a novel process comprising the steps of:cutting a carbon steel wire to a selected straight length, bending about one-half of said length of wire to form a handle, stamping the terminal portion of the unbent half of said length of wire to form a shaft terminating in a blade, andgrinding at least one surface of said blade at a selected angle relative to the longitudinal axis of said shaft to form a grinding edge.
