  • Patent number: 5203086
Abstract: A hand-held cutter especially for mat or foam board comprises a body, with handle, carrying a sliding blade holder so that a cutting blade mounted on it can be extended for cutting, or withdrawn for safety when not in use; the holder is adapted to carry two parallel, spaced-apart blades when it is desired to make two parallel cuts in a board, and the body has an inclined-plane nose so the region between the two cuts can be "plowed out" to form a channel for receiving another piece of foam board. Each blade is mounted on an outboard side of the body so the blade and cut line can be easily seen during use. A clip-on angulation device is provided which, when clipped onto the bottom of the main body, provides an angled guide surface on which the body can be slid, when an angled cut is desired.

  • Patent number: 4622747
Abstract: The method includes the steps of placing one edge of a resilient sheet, such as vinyl, in adjacent relation with an irregular or nonlinear edge with which the material is to be mated or fitted. When so positioned, one leg of a device or tool is moved along the irregular edge, the device having a second leg that is clamped in an angular relationship with the first leg. The second leg carries a blade at the lower end thereof so that the blade cuts along a line having the same profile as the edge with which the material is to be mated. Such a procedure severs a relatively narrow strip from the sheet material so that the edge formed on the remaining sheet material corresponds in profile to the edge with which the sheet material is to be fitted. The remaining sheet material is then moved toward the edge to be fitted until the profiled edge meets or abuts the edge to be fitted. The legs of the device are angularly adjustable and one leg thereof includes two longitudinally adjustable components.

  • Patent number: 4602433
Abstract: A knife for trimming wallpaper has two tapered body parts 8 and 9 between which is held a tipped cutting blade 5. The body parts have external side faces which are flat around central recesses. When the side face of a body part is in engagement with a flat surface 4, such as a wall, the tip of the blade is a predetermined distance from the plane of the flat surface. When the end face of the body is brought into engagement with a surface transverse to the flat surface, such as an architrave 3, the knife can be drawn down in a stable manner to cut the wallpaper at the predetermined distance in a neat fashion. The two parts of the body are identical and contain crossing inclined grooves to contain the blade so that it projects from a corner of the body.

  • Patent number: 4532837
Abstract: In the on-site manufacture of nipples of relatively short length for joining pipe sections in a conduit system, spacer pins and spacers are selected to achieve a user-determined displacement between an end stop and cutting element of a pipe groover used for cutting external annular grooves along the pipe stock. The use of the spacer pins and spacers allows the grooving tool to be displaced at measured displacements from a selected end of the pipe stock while providing a visual gauge to the user of such displacement. In the fabrication of these nipples, the end stop/yoke is positioned abutting a selected end of the pipe stock thereby positioning the cutting element where a first groove is cut. Upon selection of a combination of spacer pins and/or spacers the end stop is again positioned to abut the selected end of the pipe stock thereby positioning the cutting element where a second groove is cut.
