To Vary Angle Between Saw And Guide Plate Patents (Class 30/376)
  • Publication number: 20010037578
Abstract: Portable circular saws are taught that may include a base and a saw unit pivotally coupled to the base. The saw unit may have a circular saw blade that is adapted to laterally pivot relative to the base. A stopper may be provided to allow an operator to selectively stop the saw unit at a second pivot angle that is between a first pivot angle and a third pivot angle. Preferably, the stopper may have an operative position and a non-operative position. In the operative position, the saw unit can pivot from the first pivot angle to the third pivot angle without stopping at the second pivot angle. In the non-operative position, the saw unit can pivot between the first pivot angle and the second pivot angle. A first stopper may be provided to permit the saw to be selectively stopped at a small angle pivot position (e.g. 0°) before a minimum pivot angle (e.g. −5°). A second stopper may be provided to permit the saw to be selectively stopped at a large angle pivot position (e.g.

Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a jigsaw including a base, a housing pivotally movable relative to the base about a first axis that extends longitudinally along the base, and a motor positioned within the housing. The jigsaw also includes a blade coupled to the motor by a drive mechanism adapted for reciprocating the blade in an up-and-down motion. The blade is laterally supported by a blade guide connected to the base that is pivotally movable about the first axis. When the housing is pivoted relative to the base about the first axis, the blade guide also pivots about the first axis to inhibit binding between the blade and the blade guide.

  • Patent number: 4982501
Abstract: In a portable circular saw depth of cut adjustment is effected by pivoting movement between a shoe 24 (which supports the saw on a workpiece) and a motor and gear case housing 26 (carrying the saw blade 12) about a pivot connection 28 rearward of the motor and gear case housing. Forward of the housing 26 an upwardly extending arcuate depth slide 38, fixed to the shoe 24, slidably engages an arcuate depth guide 40 carried by the motor and gear case housing 26. Towards the upper end of the depth slide 38, and in generally fixed relation to it, a clamping assembly 42 selectively clamps the depth slide 38 and depth guide 40 together to establish a depth of cut adjustment setting. The essentially fixed relationship of the locking knob 100 of the clamping assembly 42 to the shoe 24 mean that the operations of changing depth adjustment setting may be made without changing operator's hand positions on the saw.

Abstract: A guide shoe of a power chain saw unit is movable along a series of side-by-side roof rafters. A power chain saw of the power chain saw unit is connected to the guide shoe by rigid rods. When operated, the power chain saw cuts notches in the roof rafters in the direction of travel of the guide shoe. Fixed to the guide shoe are upstanding plates formed with arcuate slots. The ends of the rigid rods adjacent the upstanding plates are releasably secured along the arcuate slots of the upstanding plates for locking the power chain saw in various selected angular positions relative to the guide shoe for controlling the depth of the notches and the cutting angle of the chain saw blade of the power chain saw.

  • Patent number: 4677750
Abstract: A guide arrangement for portable power saws is made up of a guide plate adapted to be placed on the work and a stand plate fixed to the saw. The guide plate possesses a raised rail running in the feed direction of the saw. In use, the saw with the stand plate is placed on the guide plate so that a socket in the stand plate fits round the rail and the stand plate may then be moved along the guide plate on the rail, the guiding section straddling the rail and guiding the stand plate on the rail. The stand plate is fitted with a backlash limiter having an operating part acting against the side of the rail for reducing play between the rail and the stand plate. This means that the saw is guided in the length direction parallel to the rail of the guide plate and it is possible for straight cuts to be sawn with a high degree of accuracy without any danger of the saw running askew. The backlash limiter may take the form of a spring loaded member or one driven by a screw or threaded rod.

  • Patent number: 4660448
Abstract: The sound produced by the movement of the teeth of an idling circular saw or band saw blade in air is substantially reduced by exposing the blade to a radiation impedance which is effectively imaginary, thereby subjecting a preselected portion of such sound to propagation cut-off. Propagation cut-off is achieved by providing a cover including a pair of closely spaced parallel acoustically hard-wall plates positionable on both sides of the blade. Preferably the plates are spaced apart by a distance less than 21 millimeters, and extend beyond the tips of the teeth by a distance several times the space between the plates. Portions of the plates may be moveable to expose the teeth during the cutting operation.

    Patent number: 4353165
Abstract: A rotatable portable saw has a saw blade 2 which is pivotally mounted with respect to plate 15 so that the position of the blade relative to the plate 15 can be altered to alter the depth of cut. In a modified form the saw blade can be angled slightly to the direction of traverse of the saw so that the width of the cut can be made slightly greater than the width of the blade. In use the saw is traversed across a workpiece with the blade positioned to produce a scribing cut in the surface of the workpiece and then traversed back across the workpiece, after lowering the blade position relative to the workpiece, so that the workpiece is cut right through. In this way, for a given directional rotation of the blade, the blade can be made always to approach the surface being cut so that splintering of the workpiece is substantially reduced or eliminated.
