With Guard Means Patents (Class 30/390)
  • Patent number: 5537748
Abstract: A cut waste discharging device for a circular saw blade of an electric power circular saw machine, which includes: a safety cover for covering an upper portion of the circular saw blade; a lower guard which is angularly movable into the safety cover in accordance with development of a cutting operation of a workpiece with the circular saw blade; and a partition wall provided along an inner peripheral wall of the safety cover so as not to interfere with the lower guard, thereby defining a passage of cut waste with the outer wall of the partition wall and the inner peripheral wall of the safety cover. With such an arrangement, the passage between the outer wall of the partition and the inner wall of the safety cover causes the cut waste, generated in the waste generating portion, to be led to a predetermined discharge place. Accordingly, the waste would not be splash within the safety cover and would not be splashed out of the predetermined discharge place.

  • Patent number: 5481806
Abstract: A Tongue attachment for a portable electric circular saw equipped with a lower retractable or pivoting blade guard in which in a closed position the guard covers most of the blade, to a retracted position in which the cutting edge is exposed to material for cutting. An interior wall of the lower guard of such conventional saws has a quarter-circular leading edge that serves as a point of sliding contact with the work piece as the saw cuts through the piece. An opposite, exterior wall of such conventional guards lacks a similar leading edge. Consequently, the lower guard of such saws of conventional design have a tendency to catch the concave wall of the face of the guard on the material being worked. This stops the saw from proceeding until the handle on the guard is used to lift it from this catching position. The Tongue attachment completely eliminates this problem. In an alternative embodiment, such a tongue is made an integral part of a lower guard.

  • Patent number: 4675999
Abstract: A portable power tool such as a portable circular saw is provided with a sawdust collection system based on the generation of an air flow resulting from rotation of a rotary cutting blade, with this air flow being guided to transport sawdust resulting from cutting operations along a guide path through a first discharge aperture into a dust box in which the sawdust is precipitated, with a low-velocity air flow then passing out of the dust box through a second discharge aperture to be recirculated through the flow path. Extremely effective dust collection is attained with a simple configuration, while the dust box can be positioned such that the weight of accumulated sawdust therein does not significantly affect the balance or ease of operation of the portable power tool.

Abstract: In a portable circular saw, the baseplate (8) is attached to the motor housing (1) in a manner such that the baseplate may be locked into position or slidably adjusted perpendicular to the saw blade (2) as desired. These features permit using the saw as a normal portable circular saw with a sufficiently protruding baseplate, and after a simple adjustment, also as a silhouette kerf saw with a minimally protruding baseplate. Thus, one tool serves both of these purposes.

  • Patent number: 4625405
Abstract: A cast cutter having a pair of juxtaposed, sawedged blades which oscillate relative to each other on a common pivot point to provide a scissorslike cutting action resulting in a relatively wide kerf in the cast being out. A patient protective blade guard, slidable between the underside of the cast and the patient's skin, includes an aperture into which portions of the blades partially extend wherein a nip area is provided at an interface location of the blades and the guard to facilitate cutting of an inner woven cloth lining of the cast to the scissor teeth. The oscillatory motion of the blades relative to each other minimizes clogging thereof by dust particles generated during a cutting operation. The blades are slightly spaced from each other to preclude friction generated heat buildup that could result from the moving blades rubbing together.

  • Patent number: 4543723
Abstract: The invention is directed to a safety arrangement for a power-driven portable tool such as a motor-driven chain saw or the like. The portable tool has a housing equipped with two handles both of which are grasped by the operator to hold and guide the tool during use thereof. One of the handles is a bail handle mounted at the forward part of the housing. The safety arrangement includes two switches associated with respective ones of the handles. The switches are operatively connected to the motor so as to cause the same to be operative only when both switches are closed. At least a portion of one of the contacts of the bail handle switch is displaceable from a first position whereat the bail handle switch is open to a second position whereat the switch contacts come into mutual contact and the bail handle switch is closed.

Abstract: An improved portable circular saw with a pair of semicircular discs having a rotary sawing cutter disposed therebetween, the semicircular discs being fixedly secured to the upper surface of a table and vertically extending along the rotary sawing cutter with a close clearance kept therefrom, whereby remarkably high noise reduction and dust collection are ensured with substantially reduced danger of or without any danger of injuring of a part of a human body. According to another aspect of the invention a dust collecting device is provided having a dust collecting hood arranged above the upper half of the rotary sawing cutter, an inner wall included in the dust collecting hood to surround the central part of the rotary sawing cutter and a bottom plate on the table. A pair of semicircular plates may be fixedly secured onto the longer sides of the inner wall vertically extend along the rotary sawing cutter in the same manner as the aforesaid semicircular discs.

  • Patent number: 4411067
Abstract: A blade housing device for a cast cutting tool which is used to remove a cast from a patient is disclosed. The housing device includes a housing having a side periphery through which a portion of the edge of the circular saw blade of the cast cutting tool projects varying distances. The housing is attached to the body of the cast cutting tool so that by rotating the cast cutting tool and hence the housing, a different portion of the side periphery can be presented to the cutting area. In this manner, the desired distance of projection of the saw blade, or the desired depth of cut, is easily selected by the user. The housing acts to collect the dust generated by the cutting and the dust can be removed by a suction hose attachable to the front of the housing. For easy blade changing, the housing is pivotally attached relative to the shaft on which the circular saw blade is mounted.

The hanger is secured to the tool handle along a wall thereof by a screw or screws which extends through a screw hole or holes provided to receive a screw or screws, respectively, to secure the handle to the tool housing. A wall of the hanger is contiguous or substantially contiguous with the wall of the handle. The screw holding the hanger to the handle and housing extends transversely to elongated directions of the contiguous walls and extends intermediate the wall ends. A channel is secured to the hanger and has its side walls extending over the above walls and along side walls of the handle, the screw extending through the side walls. • Patent number: 4241505
Abstract: A dust shroud for a portable circular saw is described comprising an upper blade housing, a lower blade housing, an external connecting link connecting the two and aligned with the saw blade, and flexible sealing means attached to the upper part of the lower blade housing. The thickness of the connecting link is not greater than the thickness of the saw blade and since the link is aligned with the saw blade it follows the saw blade through the kerf created by the blade in the worksheet. The upper blade housing is attached directly to the saw's motor housing and moves therewith while the lower blade housing is attached to the upper blade housing through the connecting link and is thus kept aligned with the upper housing as the saw cuts through the workpiece. The flexible sealing means keeps dust from escaping from the lower blade housing since it continuously conforms to irregularities in the surface of the workpiece.
