  • Patent number: 6260281
Abstract: A device for mounting a blade on a reciprocally movable blade carrier of a cutting tool includes a blade pressing member and a blade pressing surface formed on the blade carrier, so that the blade can be pressed against the blade pressing surface by the blade pressing member. A retainer member serves as a guide for the pressing member, so that the pressing member can move in a direction substantially perpendicular to the pressing surface between a first position for pressing the blade against the pressing surface and a second position for releasing the pressing force of the pressing member. An operation member is shiftable relative to the blade carrier and is operable by an operator for moving the pressing member between the first position and the second position. A ball is interposed between the pressing member and the operation member. A contacting surface is formed on the operation member, so that the ball can roll along the contacting surface.

Abstract: A light duty electric reciprocating handsaw includes a body assembly having a throat therein, a removably and reciprocally attached saw blade within the body assembly spanning the opening of the throat so that any workpiece that fits inside the throat can be cut across its width. The handsaw is either electrically or battery operated and includes an electric motor mounted within the body assembly, the weight of the motor being generally distributed over the saw blade. Preferably, the throat of the body assembly is generally defined by an upside down U-shaped configuration for receiving the workpiece therein after cutting with the saw blade. A balance of the weight is located generally over the saw blade, with the remainder of the weight of the unit being distributed generally evenly throughout the rest of the handsaw such that the operator will experience an aid in cutting the workpiece through the force of gravity.

  • Patent number: 6241027
Abstract: A hand-operated electric tool, especially a jigsaw, has a motor unit provided in the tool housing. The motor unit contains in a motor housing the stator and the rotor. One end of the rotor shaft projects from the motor housing and is mounted in two bearings fixed in the motor housing. A countershaft forms an extension of the rotor shaft and carries a toothed arrangement. The countershaft is coupled to the rotor shaft and is rotatably mounted in a bearing. The rotor shaft and countershaft engage axially with radial play and are coupled non-rotatably by co-operating radial projections and recesses receiving the projections. In the region of the overlapping portions of rotor shaft and countershaft, one of the shafts has an annular portion extending at least over a part of the circumference. The annular portion is substantially in line contact with an adjacent circumferential surface of the other shaft. The line contact permits misalignment of the rotor shaft and countershaft but reduces noise.

Abstract: A hand-held power saw (10) having a housing (112) which includes a blade storage chamber (124) and a retaining member (130) for holding at least one spare saw blade (26) within the storage chamber. In one embodiment the retaining member comprises a rubber component having a pair of arms (136). Each arm has a groove (138) formed therein which holds a ball bearing (140). The ball bearings are biased into contact with one another once the retaining member is assembled into a housing portion of the tool within the storage chamber. • Patent number: 6155149
Abstract: An air deflection system and method which is specifically designed for use with reciprocating saws of the type widely used for construction projects. Such reciprocating saws are known to produce so much air-borne particulate matter that they can be a hazard to the eyes, head and respiratory system of the user. The air-borne debris also makes it difficult for the user to see the work being cut. The design provides a slip-on cover for air exit ports which has the effect of deflecting air and hence the particulate matter in a direction away from the head of the user. The resulting effect is a safer and more efficient sawing operation which is accomplished with a low-cost and easy to install deflection shield.

Abstract: According to one aspect of the invention, a reciprocating saw 21, 154 comprises a housing 23, 154 pivotable about a first axis 29. A blade holder 49 is mounted for reciprocation along a second axis 53 perpendicular to the first axis. An angular blade drive train 61 is directly connected between a motor 43 and the blade holder. The angular blade drive permits the blade axis of reciprocation 55 to be adjusted in a plane parallel to the saw sidewalls 177. Drive train 61 consists solely of a rotary section 63 and a reciprocating section 65. The rotary section is connected directly between the motor and the reciprocating section. The reciprocating section is connected directly to the blade holder. According to a second aspect of the invention, a reciprocating saw 21,154 comprises a housing 23, a drive train 61, a blade holder 49, and a connector 59. Blade holder 49 is rotatably mounted in connector 59 for rotation about an axis 53 parallel to and spaced from an axis 55 of reciprocation of output bar 57.

Abstract: The saw includes a frame having an opening with a pair of proximate and distal blade retaining chucks located on respective sides of the opening. A saw blade is retained between the pair of chucks. A plurality of pulleys are attached in spaced relation to the frame including pulleys on opposed sides of the opening. A flexible band is entrained about each of the plurality of pulleys, with the band having a first end operatively connected to the proximate blade retaining chuck and a second end attached to the distal blade retaining chuck. A reciprocating drive is attached to the proximate blade retaining chuck. The reciprocating drive and the flexible band work in conjunction to pull the blade in opposite directions during each cycle of the drive. An alternative embodiment of the present invention may take the form of a stationary table saw.

Abstract: A ring blade and drive system, and method of using same, for harvesting bone-tendon-bone ligament grafts having substantially cylindrical bone plugs. The ring blade disclosed is a circular ring having a predetermined arcuate gap formed in its periphery. The drive system includes a blade holder to peripherally hold the ring blade and a fixed-center oscillating mechanism to oscillate the ring blade about its axis within a predetermined arcuate range of motion. The ring blade structure enables the production of a substantially cylindrical bone plug of unlimited length. Harvesting of a bone-tendon-bone ligament graft is facilitated with the ring blade and method disclosed which enables the ring blade to be placed partially around a tendon segment to create bone plugs aligned with the tendon fibers included in the defined tendon segment. The cuts into the bone may be initiated into the bone at either end of the tendon segment from the tendon side through to the exterior of the bone to which the tendon is attached.

Abstract: A hack-saw that consists of a powered motor encased in a housing unit with a handle for gripping by the operator. Extending out from the top of the handle is an elongated bar which runs out forward from the motor housing unit to which depends a leg parallelly disposed relative to the motor housing. Extending out from the bottom of this leg is a rod, spring and nut assembly parallel in line to the elongated bar. One end of the metal hack-saw blade is removably attached to the rod, spring and bolt assembly and the other end of the blade is removably attached to the reciprocating output member of the motor extending out from the bottom of the motor housing which when running moves back and forth, causing a sawing motion. In another embodiment the rod, spring and nut assembly includes an anti-rotational structure to assure the hack-saw blade reciprocates aver a constant path of travel to avoid misalignment.
