  • Patent number: 10459185
Abstract: A tool for removing insulation in mid-span of a cable carrying a signal-transmitting conduit comprising a lower body section and an upper body section movable toward and away from the lower body section. The tool includes a curved mandrel disposed on the lower body section, the curved mandrel having a central peak portion and adjacent portions curving downward away from the peak portion, to present a mid-span portion of the cable insulation on a side away from the mandrel peak portion. The tool includes a blade disposed on the upper body section, the blade movable toward and away from the curved mandrel. The cable is securable in the curved mandrel in a curved position, allowing the blade to shave the cable insulation allowing access to the signal-transmitting conduit. The tool may include an adjustment barrel having a plurality of height adjustment surfaces disposed at a different distance from the barrel axis, each height adjustment surface positioning the blade a different distance from the mandrel.

  • Patent number: 8112893
Abstract: A cutting tool includes a frame, a shaft, a cutter and a cam. The shaft is rotatable about an axis. The cutter is coupled to the shaft such that rotation of the shaft about its axis causes rotation of the cutter about the shaft's axis. The cam is positioned around the shaft such that the cam contacts the frame upon rotation of the shaft. The cam has a cam surface which is distanced away from the axis of the shaft a varying amount such that contact of the cam with the frame upon rotation of the shaft causes the shaft, and thus the cutter, to reciprocate in a generally transverse direction relative to the axis of the shaft.

  • Publication number: 20090151166
Abstract: A cutting tool for cutting the armor includes a cutter body having first and bottom entry walls defining a channel for receiving an armored cable. There is a slot in the first wall that affords reciprocating entry into the channel of a movable cutting blade from the outside of the wall. The direction of translation into the channel defines a blade insertion direction. The slot defines a slot segment of the first wall which in turn defines a base line. A stopper is mounted on the cutter body opposite the slot on the inside of the first wall. The stopper moves toward and away from the first wall to engage an armored cable placed in the channel and releasably press the armored cable against the slot segment of the first wall. The distance in the blade insertion direction of the bottom entry wall from the base line increases as the longitudinal distance from the slot segment increases to impart a curved configuration to the channel.
