  • Publication number: 20140345143
Abstract: A device for removing an insulation jacket from a wire core of an insulated wire or cable is provided for encouraging recycling. The device employs cutting blades engaged to a first roller to cut a slice along the length of an inserted insulated wire or cable. A frictional engagement between the distal edge of the blade and an opposing recess surface provides for translation of the length of wire through the device during rotation of one or both of the blade and recess surface. Translational movement of the blades and a biasing force can enhance the frictional engagement and provide a distance of travel to prevent cutting of the insulated wire or cable.

  • Publication number: 20110010945
Abstract: A cable slitter comprises a support frame and slitting wheel operatively mounted on support frame in position to slit a cable driven longitudinally along the slitting wheel. A rotatable drive wheel is operatively mounted on the support frame for rotation about a substantially horizontal drive axis, in spaced relation from the slitting wheel to together define a substantially longitudinal cable slitting path there between. A slit-adjustment means moves one of the slitting means and the rotatable drive wheel means transversely with respect to the other between a plurality of slitting positions. A drive motor selectively rotates the rotatable drive wheel, to thereby cause a cable in the substantially longitudinal cable slitting path to move forwardly along the substantially longitudinal cable slitting path and engage the slitting wheel, thus causing the cable to be slit.

  • Patent number: 6581291
Abstract: An adjustable cable slitting tool for longitudinally slitting optical fiber buffer tubes and other precision cables includes a T-shaped body and a guide that slides relative to the body to hold and guide the cable to be slit in a guide channel. A slitting blade is mounted on a blade carriage that can be precisely adjusted with an adjustment screw to control the depth the slitting blade projects into the guide channel. A scale and indicator marks allow the desired depth of cut to be adjusted with precision by comparing indicator marks on the adjustment screw with the scale and other indicator marks on the tool body. The adjustment screw has a tapered portion that drives the blade carriage through a single contact point via a ball bearing. A deformable pad material in contact with a threaded portion of the adjustment screw acts as both a friction adjustment and part of the backlash prevention mechanism.

  • Patent number: 6311600
Abstract: An electric power cable sheath cutter for longitudinally slicing an outer metallic sheath of a power cable include a frame arranged to be clamped by clamps to each end of a selected longitudinal section of the power cable. A carriage, slidingly mounted to the frame, has rollers that embrace an outer surface of the power cable so that the carriage “floats” on the cable in use. A milling tool with its drive motor is supported on the carriage and is adjustable up and down to enable a depth to be chosen. As a result, the sheath is cut through and inner strands of the power cable are not damaged. The effective depth of the remote end of the cutting tool is controlled by operation of a first motor 20, and the carriage is driven along in use the frame by a second motor so that the cutter can operate automatically without close manual supervision.

  • Patent number: 6308417
Abstract: A cable stripper tool enabling an operator to quickly change from making a circumferential cut of a cable to a liner cut without repositioning the cable stripper tool on the cable includes a blade positioning assembly, a blade penetration assembly and a cable guide assembly. The blade positioning assembly is adopted to efficiently move the blade linearly for penetrating the insulation at a predetermined distance set by the dial assembly while the tool is clamped to the cable to perform a circumferential cut upon relative rotation of the tool and the cable. The blade further is retracted to be turned by the blade positioning assembly at a 90° angle with a rotary cam action to be further axially propelled to penetrate the cable at the same predetermined distance to perform a linear cut without dismounting the cable.
