  • Patent number: 6578931
Abstract: A drive wheel roller disengages a drive wheel on a device from the drive axle connected directly to a motor, such that the drive wheel can spin freely to move the device when the motor is not on. The axle has an aperture which aligns with an aperture on the hub of the drive wheel. When the pin is in place the drive axle and the wheel turn in unison. When the pin is removed the wheel can spin freely on a bearing located between the wheel and the axle. A screw cap locks the wheel on the axle.

  • Patent number: 6520597
Abstract: A blow-molded wheel including an axle retainer assembly. The retainer assembly (31) includes a housing (42) having transverse sleeves that support an axle (14) and a spring biased retainer pin (10) that mounts to an annular groove (12) at the axle. The housing is supported in a cavity formed into a wheel spoke (18) and a bore of a wheel hub and is retarined upon the shrinkage of the plastic around the housing. An aperture of the pin sleeve facilitates retraction of the pin and release of the wheel from the axle.

  • Patent number: 6520598
Abstract: A supporting device for a front wheel of a stroller includes a locking member, a supporting member and a control member. The locking member is received in two aligned cylindrical parts of the supporting member, and has two protruding parts at upper portions of two resilient upright poles thereof; the protruding parts face a gap between the aligned cylindrical parts. The control member is pivoted to the supporting member, and has a locating part facing the gap of the supporting member. The supporting device is separably connected to a support tube of the stroller frame with the cylindrical parts being passed around the tube and the poles being passed into the tube; the protruding parts stick out through opposing lateral holes of the tube into the gap to prevent the tube and the supporting device from separating from each other.

  • Patent number: 6499810
Abstract: A locking quick-release bike hub skewer for securely engaging an axle of a bike includes a security lock for preventing theft. A cam member is housed within a quick-release skewer housing and is completely restrained from rotation via a tri-tumbler locking apparatus. The cam member is arranged in a combination lock type design and, therefore, cannot be rotated. In dialing in a proper lock combination, a series of locking pins which would otherwise prevent rotation of the cam about the bike's axle are aligned such that the cam member is allowed to freely spin. A pivoting lever is also provided not only for aiding in compressing the cam member against the axle, but also for removing compression of the cam member against the axle which aids in the removal of the quick-release hub once a proper lock combination has been dialed.

  • Patent number: 6494544
Abstract: A wheel mounting system for a wet/dry vacuum cleaner is disclosed. A system provides a wet/dry vacuum cleaner base having a plurality of mounting surfaces extending therefrom. First and second wheels are mounted to first and second stub shafts which are inserted through at least two of the plurality of bearing surfaces and secured thereto using set screws. Flanges on outer ends of the stub shafts secure the wheels between the flanges and wheel wells extending from the base of the vacuum cleaner. A reinforcing shaft can be telescopingly received within the first and second stub shafts in order to enable the vacuum cleaner base to support relatively heavy loads.

Abstract: A wheelchair having a chassis formed of flat plate which is folded to define a lower chassis, a chassis back, and an upper chassis. The lower and the upper chassis each have a pair of elongated substantially parallel arms that extend from respective land portions of the chassis. The arms define openings in distal portions for receiving caster wheels. Drive wheels connect to axle mounts that are selectively positioned for track, camber, and height, which axle mounts connect to the chassis back. A seat support attaches to the chassis for supporting a person in the wheelchair and includes independently adjustable height, longitudinal position relative a seat back, and angle. A pair of push handles attach to the chassis back and pivotally connect to the seat support for selective positioning of the angle of the back.

  • Patent number: 6409283
Abstract: A wheel assembly for a trunk-attached carriage includes an integrally formed wheel bracket having a vertical, a side and a bottom plate for mounting onto a lower rear corner of a trunk, a compression spring, a short wheel axle, a locking member, and a wheel. The wheel bracket defines a wheel-space for the wheel to locate therein. The wheel axle transversely extends across behind the vertical plate of the wheel bracket to pass through an axle hole on the wheel, so that the wheel is rotatably mounted on the wheel axle and connected the wheel bracket. An end of the wheel axle close to the side plate of the wheel bracket is connected to a diameter-reduced inner end of the locking member, so that the wheel axle can be turned into a locked position on the wheel bracket by turning a diameter-expanded outer end of the locking member. And, by turning the locking member in a reverse direction, the wheel axle can be removed from the wheel bracket for replacement of any damaged component of the wheel assembly.
