Dovetail Projection Patents (Class 310/216.051)
  • Patent number: 10193402
Abstract: An electrical machine comprising a first item having a male portion and a second item having a female portion. The male and female portions have a shape adapted to each other such that the male portion can be fitted into the female portion. The male and/or female portion is formed as a stack of sheets comprising standard sheets and protruding sheets. The “male” standard sheets substantially fit into the female portion and the “male” protruding sheets are larger than the female portion such that, in use, said protruding sheets are deformed during insertion of the male portion into the female portion. The “female” standard sheets have an opening into which the male portion substantially fits, and the “female” protruding sheets have an opening smaller than the male portion such that, in use, said protruding sheets are deformed during insertion of the male portion into the opening of the female portion.

  • Patent number: 8860280
Abstract: A rotor includes a rotor core comprised of steel sheets that are laminated in the axial direction of the rotor core and a rotating component configured to rotate together with the rotor core. Each of the steel sheets has a positioning portion for circumferentially positioning the steel sheet with respect to the rotating component and is formed of a rolled steel material. For each of the steel sheets, the direction of rolling of the steel sheet is circumferentially offset from both imaginary lines X and Y by predetermined angles. Each of the steel sheets is shaped so that the circumferential position of the positioning portion thereof remains unchanged when the steel sheet is front-back inverted about the imaginary line X. When viewed along the axial direction, at least one of the steel sheets is front-back inverted with respect to and thus forms a mirror image of the other steel sheets.

  • Patent number: 8829769
Abstract: A keybar or clamping bolt with a high-resistivity coating to protect an electric machine. The coating engages the laminations, flanges and frame rings and forms a part of electrical circuits through which harmful eddy currents circulate. One class of eddy currents, viz., core-fault currents, due to edge burrs or insulation defects, are forced to flow through this coating. The high resistance of the coating weakens the fault currents, preventing creation of hotspots that can cause core failure. Such coated keybar is in inexpensive alternative to traditional recoating and/or core-fault detection. Another class of eddy currents, viz., keybar currents, caused by over-fluxing, are also forced to flow through this coating. The high resistance of the coating weakens the keybar currents, so prevents core-end overheating. A coated keybar also allows the machine to operate at higher leading power factor. It also prevents core-decompression hence protects the machine against loose laminations.

  • Patent number: 8816546
Abstract: Electromagnetic rotary machines, such as electrical power generators and electric motors, that have one or more active portions modularized into a set of modules. Each of the modules is secured to a support frame via a sliding-interlock system that allows that module to be slidingly engaged with the support frame. In some embodiments, each module can include an integrated coolant conduit that carries a coolant to cool the active portion during operation. The modules can each be self-contained in the respect that essentially all that needs to be done to form the active portion and corresponding portion of the cooling system is to install the modules and make any remaining electrical and coolant conduit connections.

  • Publication number: 20120007463
Abstract: A stator for an electric rotating machine includes a stator core that has an annular yoke portion, a plurality of tooth portions, a plurality of connecting portions and a plurality of slots. The tooth portions are separately formed from and assembled to the yoke portion. Each of the tooth portions extends radially inward from a radially inner periphery of the yoke portion. The tooth portions are arranged in the circumferential direction of the yoke portion at predetermined intervals. Each of the connecting portions circumferentially extends to connect a corresponding circumferentially-adjacent pair of the tooth portions. Each of the slots is formed between a circumferentially-adjacent pair of the tooth portions. Moreover, each of the slots is partitioned by a corresponding one of the connecting portions into a radially-outer section and a radially-inner section.
