Abstract: The cooling system may comprise: an electric machine; a first conduit including a cable housing and an inlet; a plurality of conductive cables extending from the electric machine, the plurality of conductive cables disposed at least partially in the cable housing; and an electric fan disposed in the first conduit, the cooling system configured to passively flow air through the first conduit to cool the plurality of conductive cables during operation of the gas turbine engine, and the electric fan configured to actively cool the plurality of conductive cables after an engine shutdown of the gas turbine engine.
Abstract: A small PMDC motor has a wound salient pole armature. The armature 22 has a winding guide 38 disposed within each winding tunnel 36 formed between adjacent salient poles of the armature. The winding guide 38 is arranged to separate the radially inner portion of the respective winding tunnel whereby windings 30 wound about the adjacent salient poles of the armature are restrained from entering into the opposite radially inner portion of the winding tunnel 36.

Abstract: A component of an electric machine 46, the component comprising a core 10; two or more teeth 14 extending radially therefrom; at least one electromagnetic winding 12, each winding 12 around at least one of the teeth 14; wherein the core 10 having a cooling arrangement including at least one cooling insert 48 located between adjacent windings 12 and whereby in use a cooling fluid being arranged to flow through the at least one cooling insert 48 to facilitate heat transfer and dissipation from the electromagnetic windings 12. The cooling inserts providing improved cooling, structural support to the windings, and electrical insulation between the windings and the core.

Abstract: A radial flux permanent magnet AC motor/generator employs a flat circular stator plate having a plurality of separately-formed electromagnets mounted in a ring pattern on a top surface thereof. A circular flux ring fabricated of powdered metal is mounted to the stator plate outside the ring of electromagnets. A plurality of permanent magnets are mounted in a ring pattern on the outer cylindrical surface of a steel rotor. The stator plate and rotor are axially and diametrically aligned such that the ring of permanent magnets rotates in close proximity to and inside the ring of electromagnets. The electromagnets utilize powder metal cores shaped to have rounded corners and flat sides that permit the use of heavier gauge windings and eliminate the air gaps that exist between the core and windings of prior art electromagnets.

Abstract: The invention relates to a brushless DC machine comprising a rotor and a stator that supports a winding assembly. The stator encompasses a toothed rim with tooth tips that extend radially outward as well as a return ring. The toothed rim and the return ring are embodied so as to engage into each other in a radial direction.
