Patent number: 4785214Abstract: Brush rigging for a dynamoelectric machine such as an electric cranking motor for cranking an internal combustion engine. A support carries a plurality of radially extending brush holders each of which slidably supports a brush. The brushes are urged radially inwardly by an elastomeric band that is formed of electrical insulating material. The band directly engages the outer ends of the brushes and a plurality of pins that are carried by the support. The pins are located between pairs of brush holders.Type: GrantFiled: October 30, 1987Date of Patent: November 15, 1988Assignee: General Motors CorporationInventor: Jeffrey L. Mummert

Patent number: 4774430Abstract: The brush assembly for electrical motors comprises a housing cap (10) which consists of an insulating material and which closes the motor on its frontal end, the said cap's inner side (16) being provided with projections (7, 8) extending in parallel to the motor axis. These projections (7, 8) are penetrated by openings (12, 13) for the accommodation and fixation of elastic commutator brushes (1, 2). The contact lugs (32, 33) which can be inserted from the outside into the slot-shaped openings (12, 13) are coupled stationarily to the commutator brushes (1, 2) by virtue of a close-fit arrangement (36, 37) designed at the latter.Type: GrantFiled: December 4, 1986Date of Patent: September 27, 1988Assignee: Braun AktiengesellschaftInventors: Emilio Rodriguez, Antonio Martinez

Patent number: 4746829Abstract: An improved brush gear assembly for use in a miniature motor. The brush gear assembly is mounted within the interior of the end cap of the motor and basically consists of three parts: a terminal element or fitting, a brush leaf element, and a brush. The terminal element consists of a generally planar brass part, a major part of which is defined as an elongated rectangular portion. One end of the rectangular portion defines a bending end. Near the bending end are disposed three staggered projections arranged generally in line adjacent to a transverse bending line formed on the rectangular portion. The leaf spring is formed from a substantially elongated planar copper strip, which has one end terminating in a bending portion. The remainder of the strip constitutes a spring portion and terminates at its other end in a brush receiving portion, which is reinforced by bending the sides in an upward direction.Type: GrantFiled: July 30, 1986Date of Patent: May 24, 1988Assignee: Johnson Electric Industry Manufactory, LimitedInventor: Georg Strobl

Patent number: 4638204Abstract: A hammer brush holder assembly can be easily fabricated and assembled by robot automation using only a few simple steps. The brush holder has at least two brush support arms swivel-mounted at one end in a brush rocker and pressed against a commutator by a tension spring via the brushes which are held at the other end of the brush rocker. The brush support arms with sleeve-shaped ends can be slipped axially onto lugs molded in an axial fashion to the brush rocker and locked in place. Both brush support arms are connected as parts of a single-piece plastic injection-molded component with an integral breakaway bridge segment which holds both brush support arms to a preselected mutual spacing. The breakaway bridge segment can be eliminated after installation of the hammer brush support assembly in the commutator motor.Type: GrantFiled: September 19, 1985Date of Patent: January 20, 1987Assignee: Siemens AktiengesellschaftInventors: Albert Kirchner, Juergen Schoen, Ortwin Happ

Patent number: 4602181Abstract: A brush holder assembly for use in an electric motor or generator has an insulating ring one side of which carries a set of several equidistant carriers for brushes which are biased in the radial direction of the ring to bear against a slip ring or against a commutator. Each carrier is radially adjustably secured to the ring by two screws or bolts and nuts whose shanks extend through two elongated slots provided in a flange-like extension of the carrier. Each extension has a tongue extending into a radial groove in the one side of the ring. The axial position of each carrier relative to the ring can be changed by inserting one or more shims between the extension and the ring.Type: GrantFiled: November 5, 1984Date of Patent: July 22, 1986Inventors: Wolfgang Dietrich, Michael Dietrich

Patent number: 4536669Abstract: A d.c. motor comprises a cylindrical yoke, at least one set of field magnets of permanent magnets fixed to the inner peripheral surface of the yoke, an armature wound with armature windings so as to be surrounded by the field magnets, a commutator firmly mounted on a rotary shaft of the armature, a set of brushes being in slide-contact with the commutator, and a displacing means for shifting the position at which the brushes are made in slide-contact with the commutator in the counter direction of the rotation of the armature depending on rise in temperature of the d.c. motor.Type: GrantFiled: June 13, 1984Date of Patent: August 20, 1985Assignee: Mitsubishi Denki Kabushiki KaishaInventor: Akira Morishita

Patent number: 4475053Abstract: The essentially semi-circular busbar connecting oppositely located positive brushes is shiftably held in seating means provided in the positive brush-holders and in the intermediate negative brush-holder and has an offset extension which can be firmly screwed to the lug of an exciter winding while frictional forces between the busbar and the seating means yield and allow the busbar to take a position that compensates for the accumulation of manufacturing tolerances and results in the elimination of stresses which might otherwise damage the resistance welded connections of the Litz leads of the brushes to the busbar. When the brush-holders are of metal, the seating means involve a plastic insert in a bracket against which the brush-pressure springs bear and when the brush-holders are of insulating plastic, the seating means are provided by features molded onto the brush-holder, in which case it is desirable to provide a wire clip type of spring to bear against the busbar.Type: GrantFiled: June 24, 1983Date of Patent: October 2, 1984Assignee: Robert Bosch GmbHInventor: Martin Mayer
