Abstract: A stator for an electrical machine includes teeth assembled from a plurality of stacked laminations mounted on a cylindrical protective surface thereby forming a plurality of slots. The stator also includes an armature winding assembled within the teeth by inserting components of the armature winding into the plurality of stator slots from positions external to the teeth in a manner that facilitates mitigating potential for coil distortion. The armature winding includes a plurality of coils that each include an end winding. The stator further includes a segmented yoke inserted around the armature winding in a manner that facilitates mitigating a potential for disturbing the end winding of the coils. Independently assembling the stator components in this manner facilitates varying a thickness and/or the number of heat conducting laminations between the yoke and teeth that subsequently facilitates heat transfer from the armature winding to an outer pressure casing of the machine.

Abstract: A fluid impermeable barrier is provided to protect the rotor of an electric motor. The barrier includes a body portion with a relatively large opening at one end to receive the rotor laminations and a smaller opening at the other end to receive one end of the rotor shaft. With the body portion positioned about the laminations, a cap with an outer perimeter and central opening is slid down the other end of the rotor shaft to close the large opening in the body portion. The assembly is completed by sealingly attaching the outer perimeter of the cap to the large opening in the body portion and sealingly attaching the smaller openings in the cap and body portion to respective portions of the rotor shaft. Thus, the fluid impermeable rotor barrier includes no more than two parts that are assembled onto the rotor using no more than three areas of attachment.

Abstract: In the embodiments described in the specification, a rim-driven propulsion pod arrangement has a cylindrical housing with a duct providing a flow path for water and a rotor assembly supported from a central shaft and containing a rotating blade row and driven by a rim drive permanent magnet motor recessed in the housing. An array of vanes downstream from the rotating blade row is arranged to straighten the flow of water emerging from the rotating blade row. Radial bearing members on the rotor have a hardness less than that of the shaft on which the rotor is supported and relatively soft protrusions are provided in the space between the rotor and the housing to limit excursion of the rotor. A thrust bearing has wedges arranged to form a water wedge between facing surfaces of the rotor and the rotor support during rotation of the rotor.

Abstract: A molded part is formed of an insulating resin such that a stator, electronic components, and a circuit substrate are included inside the molded part. A protective layer for preventing breakage of electrical connection that might occur due to expansion or shrinkage of the molded part is provided at least between the electronic components and the molded part. The protective layer is formed of an insulating material having shear adhesion strength smaller than that of an insulating resin of the molded part that has been cured. The shear adhesion strength and the thickness of the protective layer are defined so that, when the expansion or shrinkage which might cause the breakage of the electrical connection has taken place in the insulating resin of the molded part, separation between the electronic components and the protective layer can be caused.

Abstract: In a watertight brushless fan motor of the present invention, a first pad 33 is disposed in a first space between a stator 1 and a circuit substrate 3, A second pad 35 is disposed in a second space between the circuit substrate 3 and a plate-like section 7c of a case 7. Spaces between the plate-like section 7c of the case 7 and a bearing supporting cylindrical section 7a are formed with an insulating resin in such a manner that the stator 1 and the circuit substrate 3 are included inside, thereby forming a molded part 31, With this arrangement, the watertight brushless fan motor is provided that can prevent occurrence of a crack in the outer surface of the molded part due to the so-called molding shrinkage of the insulating resin or expansion and shrinkage of the insulating resin caused by a change in ambient temperature.

Abstract: A torque-generating apparatus comprises a first assembly (10, 25) including a generally cylindrical member of magnetically soft material and having a longitudinal axis and a second assembly (2) arranged coaxially within the first assembly and including an electromagnetic winding (4). The first assembly (10, 25) and the second assembly (2) are rotatable relative to each other about the axis. Relative rotation between the first (10, 25) and second (2) assemblies induces a magnetic field which generates rotational torque between the first and second assemblies.

Abstract: A method and device are provided for stabilizing shaft bearings in a motor having a hollow shaft and holes communicating the shaft and the bearings. A lubricant pump is provided for pressurizing a volume of lubricant located within the motor housing, the pump having a set of impellers attached to a lower end of the shaft and rotating with the shaft, the impellers being located in the flow path of the lubricant. A diffuser is located upstream of and adjacent each impeller. The impellers increase the radial velocity of the lubricant, and this velocity is converted into a pressure head at the impeller outlet. The lubricant flows through the first diffuser, through the first impeller, through the second diffuser, and then flows through the second impeller and out into a reservoir. The pressure causes the lubricant to flow through the hollow shaft and through passages to stabilize the bearings.
