Publication number: 20040066106Abstract: A plastic fastener is disclosed. The fastener may be employed in a vehicle generator. The fastener has a plastic body extending through an aperture of a first component and through an aperture of a second component. The body has a first distal head that retainingly abuts the opening of the aperture of the first component. The plastic body also has a second distal head that retainingly abuts the opening of the aperture of the second component. The configuration of the body secures the first component to the second component. The invention further provides a method of fastening components of a vehicular generator. A plastic body with first and second studs is over molded about a first generator component. At least one stud may be extended through an aperture of a second generator component. The studs are then formed into distal heads to secure the first component to the second component.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 8, 2002Publication date: April 8, 2004Inventors: Michael L. Patent number: 6717312Abstract: An ordinance platform with a variable reluctance electric motor is provided. The motor has a stator integrated with a bearing race which is fixably connected with the tank body. The bearing race provides the function of a rotor and is fixably or integrally connected with the tank turret. The rotor is vertically supported by the stator for rotational movement by a plurality of ball bearings. The stator is formed having a plurality of individual phase segments which are arranged in an annular array. Each of the stator phase segments is provided with a phase winding and a plurality of stator pole teeth. The stator phase windings are connected individually to respective driver circuits so as to essentially create a plurality of individual stators about the rotor. The rotor race is formed and is provided with a plurality of rotor pole teeth which are disposed adjacent the stator pole teeth.Type: GrantFiled: January 3, 2001Date of Patent: April 6, 2004Assignee: Dana CorporationInventors: Martin Kaplan, Peter Senak, Jr.

Publication number: 20040061410Abstract: A PM-type electric rotating machine comprises a rotation axis, a rotor that rotates together with the rotation axis and a stator that rotatably supports the rotation axis. The rotor has a closed-end-cup-shaped holder that is mounted at one end of the rotation axis and a permanent magnet fixed on an inner surface of a cylindrical portion of the holder. The stator has a housing bush that supports the rotation axis in an axis hole formed through the center of the housing bush, twelve stator cores that are radially mounted around the housing bush to face the outer tip ends thereof to the permanent magnet with an air gap, and coils that are wound around the stator cores via insulators. The inner base portions of the stator cores are connected to one another with pressure so as to form a ring-shaped yoke by mounting the stator cores around the housing bush.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 15, 2003Publication date: April 1, 2004Applicant: JAPAN SERVO CO., LTD.Inventors: Takashi Ando, Yasuaki Moteki, Yuji Takagai, Toshimi Abukawa, Tomoko Abukawa, Sachio Hatori, Makoto Ochiai

Publication number: 20040056547Abstract: A hydrodynamic bearing system, in particular for a spindle motor, preferably for driving magnetic disks in disk drives, having at least one journal bearing formed by a shaft rotatably borne in a bearing sleeve. The hydrodynamic bearing system further includes at least one thrust bearing formed by a thrust plate, rotatably received in a recess of the sleeve and securely joined to the shaft, and a counter-bearing associated with the thrust plate that is in the form of a cover plate. The cover plate rests on and is attached to one end face of the sleeve. This reduces assembly-induced flexure in the cover plate.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 25, 2003Publication date: March 25, 2004Applicant: Minebea Co., Ltd.Inventors: Andreas Kull, Roland Beckers

Publication number: 20040056551Abstract: A rotating electric machine (1) has a rotor, a stator (2), and stator windings (3, 4). The windings (3, 4) include high voltage cable drawn through slots (5, 6) in the stator (2). Support members (8) are arranged inside the slots (5, 6) along and in contact with the windings (3, 4), said support members (8) comprising a hose (8′) with a substantially triangular cross-section. A wire (9) is extending through and being attached to each support member (8). When mounting the support members (8) air inside a support member (8) is evacuated in order to shrink the support member (8). Then the wire (9) extending through the support member (8) is used to pull the evacuated support member (8) into a slot (5, 6), whereupon the evacuated support member (8) is expanded by releasing the vacuum inside in order to make it clamp a cable inside a slot (5, 6) of the stator (2).Type: ApplicationFiled: August 11, 2003Publication date: March 25, 2004Inventors: Olof Lundeberg, Pentti Virtanen

Patent number: 6710505Abstract: A brushless d.c. motor is integrated with a conveyor roller (14) by placing a plurality of stator coils (15) on a stationary shaft (18) and securing a rotor (10) with segments (12) of permanent magnetic material to the inside of the conveyor roller (14). In one embodiment the rotor (10) is directly secured to the roller while in a second embodiment, the rotor (10) is disposed inside of a cylindrical metal housing (40) that is press fit inside of the roller. Commutation is provided by an external motor controller (54) which is connected by conductors (37) through a passageway (36) in the shaft (18) to a circuit board (20), where sensors (23) are mounted to sense rotor position for purposes of commutation of the stator coils (15).Type: GrantFiled: February 6, 2001Date of Patent: March 23, 2004Assignee: Aspen Motion Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Moe K.
