    Abstract: An electrodeless laser-driven light source includes a laser source that generates CW sustaining light. A pump laser generates pump light. A Q-switched laser crystal is positioned to receive the pump light and generates pulsed laser light in response to the generated pump light that propagates to a breakdown region in a gas filled bulb comprising an ionizing gas. A detector detects plasma light generated by a CW plasma located at least partly in a CW plasma region in the gas filled bulb comprising the ionizing gas and generates a detection signal. A controller generates control signals that control the pump light to the Q-switched laser crystal so as to extinguish the pulsed laser light within a time delay after the detection signal exceeds a threshold level.

Nano-porous gold allows bonding at a lower temperature than solder and is compressible. Different pressure can be applied to different nano-porous metal blocks to align the optical heights of different light-emitting devices relative to the substrate. After forming nano-porous metal blocks on a substrate, the light-emitting devices are pressed onto the metal blocks to secure and align the light-emitting devices. The alignment process may be carried in an active optical alignment process when the light-emitting devices are powered and emit light.

The electron-injection layer includes an alkali metal or an alkaline earth metal. The layer serving as a buffer includes an electron-transport material. In the inverted-structure light-emitting element, contact of the alkali metal or alkaline earth metal included in a material of the electron-injection layer with the already formed cathode increases the driving voltage of an EL element and reduces emission efficiency. This problem becomes prominent particularly when the cathode includes an oxide conductive film. To prevent this, the layer serving as a buffer is provided between the cathode and the electron-injection layer.
