Abstract: The present invention therefore relates to a colour picture tube and a deflection system for a colour picture tube comprising a rectangular fluorescent screen and an in-line electron beam generator system. An in-line electron beam generator system generates a plurality of electron beams which essentially extend in a common plane and which are directed onto the fluorescent screen. For correcting an east-west inward pincushion distortion, convergence magnets are arranged in a first plane on the colour picture tube and in the deflection system of a colour picture tube, respectively, and geometry magnets are arranged in a second plane which is different from said first plane. The planes of the convergence magnets and of the geometry magnets are each oriented perpendicular to the direction of the electron beams.

  • Patent number: 6674230
Abstract: A cathode ray tube includes an electron gun directing electrons away from a faceplate having an electrode biased at screen potential. One or more electromagnets located on or near the rear wall of the tube envelope are biased with dc currents so that the electron beam (three beams in a color tube) is deflected by the magnetic field produced thereby to impinge upon the faceplate. The electron beam is magnetically deflected over a relatively small angle as it exits the electron gun to scan across the faceplate to impinge upon phosphors thereon to produce light depicting an image or information. The electromagnet closest the electron gun is typically biased to produce a strong magnetic field to deflect electrons to the faceplate near to the electron gun. The electromagnets more distant the electron gun produce magnetic fields to direct electrons towards the faceplate, with the electromagnet most distant the electron gun deflecting the electrons to tend to increase the landing angle thereof on the faceplate.

Abstract: Four magnetic pieces are provided inside the cup-shaped portion of a shield cup. Correction magnetic field generating faces at the tips of the magnetic pieces are opposed to each other and sandwich an electron beam. Correction can be conducted according to the astigmatism amount of three electron beams because a correction magnetic field corresponding to the strength of a deflection magnetic field can be generated easily by leading the deflection magnetic field absorbed by the principal face portion of each magnetic piece to the correction magnetic field generating face. Thus, the difference in astigmatism amount among the electron beams caused by the deflection magnetic field can be corrected. Therefore, a color cathode ray tube apparatus that can display images with a high resolution over the whole screen surface can be provided.
