Abstract: When the level at an input terminal goes low upon the reception of a signal to dim an LED, a PNP transistor is rendered on and a voltage at the positive input terminal of an operational amplifier is raised, in accordance with a time constant that is defined by a resistor and a capacitor. In accordance with the increase in this voltage, a source current is supplied from the operational amplifier to a current detection terminal, and as the value of the source current is gradually increased, a current flowing across the shunt resistor of the switching regulator is gradually reduced. Further, the light emission level of the LED is gradually lowered from the fully lighted state to the 70% lighted state, and there is, for the LED, a light quantity change of about 30% in ten seconds.

Examples of vehicles in which such methods and apparatus may be used include, but are not limited to, an automobile, airplane, boat, non-motorized vehicle, etc. The LED-based light source may be disposed inside the vehicle (e.g., dashboard, instrument panel) or outside the vehicle (e.g., brake lights, undercarriage lighting), and may be controlled to generate white light as one of the perceivable colors. A user interface may be employed to facilitate an adjustment of the variable color of the generated visible radiation.

Abstract: In a system for controlling a headlight of a vehicle to be controlled, a dazzling level determiner determines a parameter value of a dazzling level of a driver of an other vehicle ahead of the controlled vehicle based on information associated with a relative positional relationship between the controlled vehicle and the other vehicle. The dazzling level represents a possibility that the driver of the other vehicle feels dazzling to light irradiated from the headlight of the controlled vehicle. A light-quantity adjuster adjusts a quantity of light to be irradiated from the headlight of the controlled vehicle based on the determined parameter value of the dazzling level.

  • Patent number: 7482765
Abstract: When a forward direction voltage of any of several LEDs 14 to 20 is lowered, a drain voltage of an NMOS transistor 70 employed in any of series regulators 24 to 30 becomes higher than a defined voltage. A zener diode ZD1, which is connected to the LED where the abnormal condition occurs, becomes conductive. A voltage, which is increased from the defined voltage, is applied to a negative input terminal of a comparing amplifier 72, and an output voltage of the comparing amplifier 72 is lowered by this increased voltage portion so that a gate voltage of the NMOS transistor 70 is lowered. A current flowing through the NMOS transistor 70 is decreased. Even if an abnormal condition caused by a voltage drop occurs in any of the LEDs 14 to 20, then the LEDs 14 to 20 can be protected.

  • Patent number: 7482756
Abstract: A vehicular lighting control system for controlling the illumination of a vehicle's external directional/turn signaling and/or hazard lighting, by controlling continuous illumination of pairs of the brightest filaments of single or dual filament bulb designed vehicles. The system controls to operate the brightest filaments when the operator wishes to draw attention to the vehicle for safety, or for visibility purposes, without the same system negatively affecting normal operation of existing turn signal/hazard warning systems. The system automatically and manually controls the light output as desired by the vehicle operator, incorporates the vehicle's internal turn signal bulb-failure indication subsystem to continuously monitor the target bulbs for any failure event, and employs a dynamic safety reconnect feature, an attribute which reconnects factory wiring with factory bulbs instantaneously with any signaling or hazards activation.
