Abstract: A tool for carpentry that when used with a nail, a pencil, and a tape measure can draw circles and arcs from a radius of 1 inch up to that of the length of the tape measure. It can also easily make circles or arcs with a radius of 2 inches up to 12 inches using pencil guide holes that are staggered down the length of the device at one eighth-inch intervals. The tool has two rare earth magnets that hold the tape measure to the tool during use. The magnets can be used also to hold a nail on the tool for storage purposes. In that way, a nail is always available when a circle is needed. For more convenience, one or more bubble levels can be added to the tool making the tool not only a circle tool but a torpedo level as well.

Abstract: A tape measure with a utensil holding device for holding a variety of elongated utensils for cutting, scoring, marking and scribing incorporating a quick release clamping cam and a threaded adjustment means with a substantially forceful tape brake utilizing a lever and cams to securely lock the tape at a specified measurement. The utensil holding device and tape brake are so configured as to be assembled with the parts on either side of the tape measure to accommodate individual preferences; the utensil being available on one side of the tape or the other; the tape brake lever on either side of the tape measure housing.

Abstract: The tool is formed of an elongate rigid bar having a pair of straight side edges extending between opposite ends. Indicia are provided adjacent graduations correlating with distances away from center holes located at each end of the bar. A series of marking holes are provided at various distances away from the center holes. Thus, when a pin is provided through one center hole, a marking tool can be placed within a marking hole having a distance corresponding with a radius of a curve to be formed, and the bar can be rotated about the pin in the center hole while the marker is allowed to form a mark in an underlying workpiece. The straight edges of the tool can also be utilized for forming straight edges.

Abstract: An apparatus for drafting a framework for a pattern and a method of using the apparatus is presented. The apparatus includes a generally rigid planer structure. A pivot point includes a pivot point aperture extending through the rigid planer structure for enabling scribing a center point of the framework and rotating the rigid planer structure about the center point. A plurality of lines pass through the pivot point. Each of the plurality of lines includes a plurality of apertures for enabling scribing marks for forming a basis for lines in the framework. At least one line of generally equally spaced longitudinal apertures, wherein each of the longitudinal apertures is at a first fixed radial distance from the pivot point, enables scribing a circle for the framework, where the circle is scribed by rotation of the rigid planer structure about the pivot point.

Abstract: A device is provided for measuring and marking shapes to be duplicated. Such shapes can include electrical outlets, window cutouts, stair step cutouts and such features on drywall or similar panels. The device has a base, a linear measure rotatably attached to the base about a point of rotation, the linear measure being capable of measuring a distance to corners of an outline of a feature to be copied and capable of rotating from a designated point through at least an angle defined by the outline of the feature to be copied. A distance indicator operatively associated with the linear measure indicates the distance from the point of rotation to each corner of the feature to be copied, and an angle indicator operatively associated with the linear measure indicates each angle to which the linear measure has been rotated when each distance measurement was taken.

A fastener releasably secures a free end of the tape to the holder. A writing utensil is removably secured to the peripheral wall with a securing member.

Abstract: A framing square for marking transverse, gable, hip/valley cut lines on a large standard sheathing panel includes an elongated rectangular scale with a transverse T-bar handle of equal width having transverse guide surfaces terminating a pivot point at the lateral ends thereof. The scale includes a first set of pitch angle lines for establishing gable cuts extending across the width of the panel and a second set of pitch angle lines for establishing hip/valley cuts. A series of holes are formed in the scale for attaching the scale to the panel at a select radius from a marker carried by the handle for establishing circular cuts.

Abstract: A measuring tape radius marking tool includes a block having an open-faced slot. A cut-out is formed in the block generally opposite the slot for holding non-circular markers. An aperture is formed through the block between the slot and the cut-out so as to be aligned with the cut-out for receiving generally circular markers. A portion of a measuring tape corresponding to the distance to be measured from a center point to form a radius marking is disposed within the slot and secured in place. A marker is inserted into either the cut-out or aperture, secured in place, and the tool is moved in an arc to create the measured radius marking.

Abstract: A marking apparatus is provided for use with a tape measure. The marking apparatus includes a marker support member attached to a first outer side of a tape measure housing, and the marker support member extends forward of the tape measure housing in the tape dispensing direction. A retractable marker unit is attached to the marker support member at a location distal to the tape measure housing. The retractable marker unit is located beside the measuring tape that is dispensed from the tape measure housing. The retractable marker unit includes a marker element for marking an article, based upon a particular indicia that is selected from tape measure indicia. A pointer member, for pointing to the selected indicia, is attached to the retractable marker unit and extends over a portion of the dispensed measuring tape. A magnifier unit can also be employed with the retractable marker unit. The retractable marker unit optionally may be operated to select a desired form of emplaced enhanced marking.

A finger-protecting component connected to the housing provides a bearing surface beneath the measuring blade for a person to place against and slide along an edge of a sheet of drywall as the person uses the tape measure in combination with a utility knife or other cutting tool to make a longitudinally extending cut in the sheet of drywall parallel to the edge of the sheet of drywall.
