  • Patent number: 8832950
Abstract: A method of measuring shores that is quick and efficient uses available ship board technology. The method comprises aligning an improved shoring batten between a first surface and a second surface in a first location where the improved shoring batten further comprises an upper angle indicator, a lower angle indicator and a measurement indicator. Next a user, communicates an upper angle from the upper angle indicator, a lower angle from the lower angle indicator and a length measurement from the measurement indicator to a second location. Then, a user affixes an upper remote angle indicator to a shore and aligning the upper remote angle indicator to the upper angle. Finally, a user cuts the shore to the upper angle in a manner that is faster and more efficient since there is no need to transport the improved shoring batten.

  • Patent number: 5979283
Abstract: A miter guide for guiding a work piece along the cutting path of a saw blade or another working tool. The miter guide includes a guide bar which fits in a slot in the surface of a table, a fence for supporting the work piece, and a telescoping extension arm connected between the fence and the guide bar for fixing the position of the fence at a predetermined angle with respect to the plane of the saw blade. The fence is pivotally connected to the guide bar, and the telescoping extension arm is also pivotally connected to the guide bar, as well as being pivotally connected to the fence at an end of the fence remote from the guide bar. A broad based triangle is formed by the guide bar, the fence and the extension arm. The extension arm includes a rod that is slidably received in a tube, and a knob that is turned to push a deformable portion of the tube against the rod to fix a length of the extension arm, thereby setting the angle of the fence.

  • Patent number: 4916822
Abstract: An angle measuring instrument provides two straight arms connected at one end for relative pivotal movement. A telescoping assembly includes two elongated telescoping members each providing a free end. The free end of one telescoping member is pivotally connected to one arm and the free end of the other telescoping member is connected to the other arm. The telescoping members provide scales indicating the angular position between the two arms, the distance between the pivots of the free ends of the telescoping members on the arms, and a correction to be added to or subtracted from measurements along the length of the arms to establish distances from the corner which is being measured. The two arms can pivot through a full 360 degrees relative to each other, permitting the measurement of inside and outside corners of all sizes. A straight edge is removably mounted on one of the arms when measuring outside corners.

  • Patent number: 4472883
Abstract: The specification discloses a device for detecting movement of two portions of a structure relative one another. The device comprises a first disc defining a radial scale and fixedly securable to the first portion of the structure and a second disc fixedly securable to the second portion of the structure. A telescoping linear scale extends between and is pivotally secured to the center of the radial scale and to the second disc. Consequently, the angular orientation of the telescoping scale with respect to the first disc is displayed on the radial scale; and the distance between the disc members is displayed on the linear scale, providing a measurement of movement between the structural portions. Also disclosed is a method of detecting structure movement comprising securing the device to the two portions of the structure and monitoring subsequent readings displayed on the radial and linear scales.
