  • Patent number: 7335167
Abstract: A software system and apparatus for the collection of various measurements of the human body representing deviations from an ideal posture in several planes of motion relative to the body. A specially designed apparatus enables the correct measurements, while the software component performs an analysis of the measurements and recommends an exercise routine based on the severity of the deviations with respect to the planes of motion. The routine can be adjusted based on the flexibility and motivation of the patient as well as on the type of symptoms being experienced by the person. Additionally, physiologic factors are taken into account, such as the person's age and weight. The exercise routine is provided via a computer display, via email or via a web page available on the Internet, utilizing textual descriptions and visual and audio aids to describe the exercises.

Abstract: An angle measuring device with two pivotable arms connected at a common point is disclosed. The first arm contains a rigidly linked shaft which connects the first arm to a second arm rotatable relative to the first arm. A first electronic sensor, such as a magnetic rotary encoder, determines the angle between the arms. Optionally, a second electronic sensor, such as an accelerometer, determines the angle of orientation of an arm with reference to the plane of the Earth. The microcontroller can be used to aggregate the output of the magnetic rotary encoder with the accelerometers, so as to calculate the angle from the plane of the Earth up to the first arm of the angle measuring device.

  • Patent number: 7293363
Abstract: A dual line protractor fixed to a central axis which has two housings, each housing having a spool with retractable lines, the housings and spools being rotatably attached to the central axis. The spools and housings rotate independently of each other on the central axis. The lines can be extended from the spools and the tips of the lines are attached to anatomical landmarks on first and second body members. The protractor is placed on a joint between the first and second body members. The lines extend from the spools and housings over degree marks on the protractor. The difference between the degree marks provide the angle between the body members at the joint. The application of the dual line protractor for these measurements is simple and rapid, requiring only a few minutes, so that the range of motion of several joints with several repeat measurements can be performed in a relatively short period of time.

Abstract: The protractor has a body which has three reference surfaces, two being parallel and one being at right angles to them. A web between the surfaces carries a protractor dial which is rotatable on the protractor body. The dial carries a reference surface and can be set in position by means of a visual indicia, by sine measurement, or by memory links. Great accuracy can be achieved by use of the sine measurement.

Abstract: An adjustable tool, and method of use thereof, for use in cutting a workpiece having a face extending between first and second opposite borders is disclosed. The tool preferably comprises an elongate guide member having proximal and distal ends, a bottom surface and a primary side including a straight-edge; a post fixed at the proximal end; an arm extending from the guide member, having measurement indicia marked thereon and defining a slot; and a movable pin positionable in the slot, the pin adapted to be secured at a desired location corresponding to a desired measurement indicium. The post and the pin are adapted to simultaneously contact the first border of the workpiece so that the straight-edge identifies a desired cutting line corresponding to the desired measurement indicium.

  • Patent number: 6584698
Abstract: An angle indicating apparatus includes a rod member, an indicia member, an indicator, a spring-loaded tumbler unit, and a locking unit. The indicia member is mounted pivotally on the rod member about a pivot axis, and includes a base plate formed with a generally semi-circular cutout. The indicator is disposed in the cutout and points to angle indicia that are provided on the base plate adjacent to the cutout. The base plate is further formed with a curved guide slot, and has a bottom side formed with a plurality of angularly spaced apart positioning grooves. The spring-loaded tumbler unit is mounted on the rod member and engages removably a selected one of the positioning grooves. The locking unit passes through the guide slot and is operable so as to engage the rod member and arrest undesired rotation of the indicia member relative to the rod member.

  • Patent number: 6557601
Abstract: An expandable mechanical stop is provided for positioning a workpiece during woodworking or other operations. The mechanical stop includes a positioning body which is adjustably attached to a track, the track having a vertical face that abuts an edge of the workpiece during operation. A stop arm is connected to the positioning body and includes a rear face that is substantially adjacent to the vertical face of the track. Anti-biasing means are provided to prevent the workpiece from dislodging the stop arm by sliding between the stop arm and the track. In one configuration, tabs are provided on the rear face and are received by grooves on the vertical face to serve as the anti-biasing means. In another configuration, grooves are provided on the rear face and receive tabs disposed on the vertical face.

Abstract: A protractor comprising a frame and a lever arm coupled thereto. The frame includes a first substantially straight edge and an elongate track adjacent to the first edge. The lever arm includes a second substantially straight edge and a channel which mateably engages the track of the frame. The channel/track combination couples the lever arm to the frame and permits the lever arm to rotate about an axis substantially orthogonal to the first and second edges. The first and second edges intersect at a point allowing a user to describe an angle between the two edges.
