Patent number: 6655278Abstract: An apparatus for positional adjustment of a plate cylinder in both lateral and circumferential directions thereof for image registration in a multicolor, offset rotary printing press. A lateral adjustment mechanism includes a spur gear which is motor driven bidirectionally, and which travels laterally back and forth, to cause lateral displacement of the plate cylinder. The gear has a pin erected eccentrically thereon for abutment against a fixed limit stop on the press frame in order to limit the bidirectional rotation of the gear and hence to prevent the plate cylinder from being driven laterally beyond limits. A circumferential adjustment mechanism includes another spur gear which is motor driven bidirectionally, and which also travels laterally back and forth, to cause circumferential displacement of the plate cylinder. This second gear has a double-ended pin extending eccentrically therethrough and having its ends projecting in opposite directions therefrom.Type: GrantFiled: May 18, 2001Date of Patent: December 2, 2003Assignee: Kabushiki Kaisha Tokyo Kikai SeisakushoInventor: Takanobu Kawabata

Patent number: 5132911Abstract: An apparatus for mounting flexible printing plates on a printing cylinder includes a base rotatably supporting a printing cylinder in a predetermined position and an adjacent support table having a surface for supporting a flexible printing plate having a reference point thereon. Actuators move the support table along three orthogonal axes one of which is parallel to the longitudinal axis of the printing cylinder. The position of the reference point is sensed by a video camera and feedback signals representing the positions of the camera and the table with respect to the three axes are inputs to a computer. The computer determines the positional relationship between the reference point on the printing plate and the predetermined position of the printing cylinder and moves the support table to position the printing plate at a desired position for mounting on the printing cylinder.Type: GrantFiled: December 27, 1989Date of Patent: July 21, 1992Assignee: Leader Engineering Fabrication, Inc.Inventors: Charles B. Patent number: 4809609Abstract: A printing plate is directly mounted on a plate cylinder by first placing small holes in the non-image area of the printing plate on register holes in the plate cylinder and by then inserting register pins through the small holes and into the register holes so that the two holes are brought into complete registry with each other. Remounting a removed printing plate at the same position on the cylinder at which it was mounted before may be readily performed by relying on X-Y coordinates of the previous position for finding the corresponding register holes and then by reperforming the method as described above. This will result in a considerable reduction in the manpower required for the plate mounting operation and in the subsequent work to bring the plate into accurate registry with the cylinder.Type: GrantFiled: September 16, 1985Date of Patent: March 7, 1989Assignee: Sakata Shokai, Ltd.Inventors: Masahiro Sugiura, Michiyuki Yoshida, Yoshiaki Nakatsuji

Patent number: 4705590Abstract: A machine for mounting a printing plate on a plate roll having an adhesively coated face. The machine includes a frame, means for rotatably mounting a plate roll on the frame in a selected position, a tilting framework swingably mounted on the frame and a pair of table sections mounted on the tilting framework on which the printing plate can be slideably mounted. A transparent grid plate is hingedly mounted on the tilting framework and can overlie the printing plate on the table sections. The printing plate can be advanced across the table section until the grid shows that the printing plate is properly aligned with the plate roll. Then a movable one of the table sections can be withdrawn and the printing plate can be advanced downwardly to bring a portion of the printing plate into engagement with the plate roll for attaching the printing plate to the plate roll. The plate roll can be turned to bring the rest of the printing plate into engagement with the adhesively coated face of the plate roll.Type: GrantFiled: November 12, 1986Date of Patent: November 10, 1987Inventor: Edward Vandenberg
