  • Patent number: 6655278
Abstract: An apparatus for positional adjustment of a plate cylinder in both lateral and circumferential directions thereof for image registration in a multicolor, offset rotary printing press. A lateral adjustment mechanism includes a spur gear which is motor driven bidirectionally, and which travels laterally back and forth, to cause lateral displacement of the plate cylinder. The gear has a pin erected eccentrically thereon for abutment against a fixed limit stop on the press frame in order to limit the bidirectional rotation of the gear and hence to prevent the plate cylinder from being driven laterally beyond limits. A circumferential adjustment mechanism includes another spur gear which is motor driven bidirectionally, and which also travels laterally back and forth, to cause circumferential displacement of the plate cylinder. This second gear has a double-ended pin extending eccentrically therethrough and having its ends projecting in opposite directions therefrom.

  • Patent number: 5765476
Abstract: An off-contact setup device is provided for a screen printing type machine. The setup device includes a frame that releasably clamps onto a levelled image pallet of the screen printing machine. The height of the setup frame relative to the pallet surface is adjusted. This height is calibrated to a desired off-contact distance between a printing screen and the substrate to be printed (which is positioned on the pallet during printing). The frame holding arm of the printing machine, which is used to support the screen printing frame, is brought into position and secured to the setup frame. The height and level adjustments for the screen frame holding assembly are then fixed so as to conform to the position of the setup frame on the pallet. This process is repeated for all stations on the printing machine. Thus, the relative distance between all pallets and the screen printing frames attached to the holding assemblies are set to be the same, providing a consistent printing operation.

Two detectors (D1, D2) associated with the front stops (A1, A2) detect the sheet leading edge. The front stops are adjustable by control elements (M1, M2) until front print marks (P1, P2) on the sheet are detected by sensors (S1, S2). A control element (M3) then adjusts the side stop (A3) until a side print mark (P3) is detected by another sensor (S3). A system control (11) controls this register correction with the position sensors (S1, S2, S3), the detectors (D1, D2) and the control elements (M1, M2, M3). Abstract: An apparatus and method are provided for registration of screens used in ink transfer processes for the printing of patterns on substrates such as clothing and other articles. The apparatus includes a platen surface and registration members that are mounted for movement toward and away from opposite sides of the platen. A pair of the registration members are coupled so that they move in mirror image in relation to a fixed point on the platen. When the screen frame is positioned on the platen, the registration members are activated to move inwardly toward the fixed point on the platen to center the screen in relation to the fixed point. Artwork is applied to the screen in alignment with underlying indicia provided on the platen and the screen is then processed to form a stencil in the screen.

  • Patent number: 5222305
Abstract: A method of specifying and verifying tight toleranced positional accuracies of external conductive patterns on electronic substrates relative to non-plated tooling hole patterns in the same substrate comprising the addition of round plated or otherwise deposited disks incorporated into the conventional plated art work of the substrate. These disks are positioned at the exact ideal location of each tooling hole. When the substrate manufacturing process is complete and the tooling holes have been drilled through at a correct location, the tooling hole will be positioned within the area of each disk on the substrate. If the tooling hole or holes is/are drilled at an unacceptable location, i.e. outside of the area of the disk, then the component receiving non-plated tooling holes, plated through holes and plated lands will also be miss-positioned and the substrate is discarded.

  • Patent number: 5133256
Abstract: A printer plate locating device used in the alignment of printer plates with respect to a screen or stencil holder of a screen printing machine. The present invention is particularly useful when used in a multi-station printing machine where the printing machine sequentially moves the printer plates into a printing station to affect the printing or image transfer. The present invention consists of two securely connected rigid plates and a system of actuators. The mounting plate 1 acts as a support or structural member for the rest of the apparatus. The alignment plate, being smaller in size than the mounting plate, provides edges against which the substrate locating devices of the printer plate make contact. In operation, the present invention is fastened to the screen holder in place of a screen or stencil on the first station of the machine.
