Abstract: A method and apparatus are provided to machine a curved surface such as an inner or outer peripheral surface of a pipe. The pipe is held stationary during machining and a rotatable spindle of a machine head moves along multiple orthogonal axes to align the rotational axis of the spindle with the longitudinal pipe axis. Preferably, the pipe axis is located by using a touch probe to engage the curved surface at multiple spots and the calculating the location of the pipe axis. The cutting tool, which is preferably a cutting tool insert, is rotated by the spindle to machine the curved surface.
Abstract: An alignment tool for positioning the tip of a cutting tool of a spindle-driven shaping machine is provided with means for accurately and repeatedly locating a cutting tool plane of motion of any angle with respect to the shaping machine's orientation is space, means for positioning the center of gravity of the alignment tool to a desired location and means for indicating a plurality of parallel cutting planes in which the cutting tool may be located. The alignment tool affords more accurate placement of the shaping machine cutter with greater ease of use than similar tools of the prior art.
Abstract: A drill press assembly including a spindle supported by a column and base, a work table and an adjustable fence assembly. The adjustable fence assembly includes clamping means permitting the fence to be adjustably mounted on the column of the drill press. The fence includes a vertically oriented planar surface. Clamping means permit the planar surface to be adjusted in an infinite number of vertical and horizontal positions thereby to facilitate positioning of a workpiece for precise drilling operations. A V-block may be mounted to the fence to facilitate drilling into the end of a cylindrical workpiece.
