Abstract: An in-pipe inspection or maintenance apparatus comprises: a single rotational and radial deployment mechanism to both rotationally deploy a probe or tool about an inner circumference of a pipe with respect to the axis of the pipe and radially deploy the probe or tool to first and second target points on the inner circumference; and a single actuator to automatically actuate the rotational and radial deployment mechanism to perform both the rotational and radial deployments of the probe or tool. The rotational and radial deployment mechanism is further configured to: rotate the probe or tool and radially extend the probe or tool to the first target point in response to the single actuator actuating the rotational and radial deployment mechanism; and rotate the probe or tool from the first target point to the second target point in response to the single actuator further actuating the rotational and radial deployment mechanism.
Abstract: A manually operable apparatus for measuring tooth mobility utilizing an alveolar ridge clamped and a tooth clamp. A positioning rod of the alveolar clamp serves as an anchor. A metering rod of the tooth indicates tooth mobility to a gage when force is applied to the same.
Abstract: A vernier caliper is a measuring instrument provided with a main scale and a slider that is slidably provided along a longitudinal direction of the main scale. The slider is provided with an operating part for a user to put his/her finger thereon so as to operate the same. The operating part is provided with a haptic notification means that notifies, through a haptic sense of the finger, that a predetermined measuring pressure has been reached by generating a resistance with respect to the finger by moving in association with the operation of the finger and by causing the resistance to change at a predetermined movement position.
Abstract: A compliant wheel assembly is provided for moving a caliper jaw relative to a caliper spar. The wheel assembly includes a rotary bearing member, a rotary actuation member and a compliant coupling element. The rotary bearing member is coupled to the caliper jaw and may engage the caliper spar. The rotary actuation member is actuated by a user to apply a measuring force. The compliant coupling element is configured to compliantly couple the rotary actuation member to the rotary bearing member. Using the compliant wheel assembly, a user is able to apply a more consistent amount of measurement force than could typically be achieved with a conventional rigid thumb wheel in caliper. In one implementation, a displacement indicator may also be provided that is responsive to the rotational displacement between the rotary bearing and actuation members for indicating an amount of measurement force that is being applied.

Abstract: A manual gauge measures a specimen's thickness by pressing surface contactors against its opposing surfaces. A rigid C-frame has upper and lower jaws providing a means for engaging a specimen and for gauging its thickness using a linear probe that is caused to move linearly between the jaws by a handle assembly. The handle assembly is joined with the C-frame at a point that is co-linear with a force vector of the probe against a workpiece resting on one of the jaws. The force of the probe is transmitted through the specimen to the jaw. The handle leverages from this jaw so that there is no force applied between the jaws thereby avoiding error due to the varying hand pressure by the operator and the resultant strain in the C-frame during measurements.
Abstract: An erosion gauge for measuring a chord length of an eroded turbine blade in a steam turbine that may include: a jaw that includes a lower jaw that includes a lower jaw surface and an upper jaw that includes an upper jaw surface such that the lower jaw surface and the upper jaw surface oppose each other; a sliding scale that connects the lower jaw to the upper jaw, wherein a first end of the sliding scale is fixed to the lower jaw and a second end of the sliding scale slides through the upper jaw such that the distance between the lower jaw surface and the upper jaw surface may be varied; and an electronic depth gauge that determines the distance between the lower jaw surface and the upper jaw surface. The lower jaw surface may include a valley insert.

Abstract: A fastener grip length selector includes a housing having a first section and a second section, and a gauge fitted with the second section of the housing and including a spindle that reaches into the first section of the housing. The fastener grip length selector enables the precise determination of a grip length of a fastener to be installed in a particular fastener hole while a temporary fastener is installed in that particular fastener hole. The fastener grip length selector is suitable for, but not limited to, applications in the aerospace industry. The fastener grip length selector may be used, for example, during the installation process of an aircraft airframe assembly. Using the method for precisely measuring a thickness of an assembly in clamped-up condition enables the determination of the length of a blind fastener hole with high accuracy while a temporary fastener is installed.

Abstract: A caliper device for taking the dimension of an object such as livestock having caliper arms with hand members for gripping the rib cage of an animal and telescoping first and second members assembled for manual relative longitudinal movement when taking the dimension of the rib cage. The first member abutting the back of the animal and carrying the caliper arms and the second member carrying a cursor and weight graduations indicating an appropriate weight graduation, estimated according to the size of the rib cage when gripped by caliper arms and hand members. Other embodiments include the first member carrying a series of lights each marking a respective weight graduation or carrying a clock-like gauge system for indicating the estimated weight of an animal.
Abstract: A mount for mounting a measuring instrument, such as an electronic measuring transducer. The mount includes a spring operated clamp assembly for attaching the mount to a first part with a reference surface engaging a desired location on the first part. In one embodiment, the clamp assembly grips the first part between a clamp member and a clamp portion. The mount has an unclamping member which may be operated with one hand to selectively open the clamp. In another embodiment, the clamp assembly includes a first clamp member and a second clamp member urged by a spring relatively away from the first clamp member, each of the first and second clamp members having a grip by which the first and second clamp members may be urged together then selectively released to clamp the mount in a gap between the first part and a second part.
Abstract: The present volume monitoring device (40) includes a cylindrical portion (66) having a piston assembly (100) therein. The cylindrical portion (66) having a measuring device (48) attached thereto at one end (46) and a readout gage (44) attached thereto at an other end (50). The measuring device (48) including a plurality of plungers (181) which when the volume displacement monitoring device (40) is positioned within an opening activates a flow of fluid to move the piston assembly (100) and establishes a readout on the readout gage (44). Abstract: A caliper gauge having a rotatably supported outer roller mounted on a slider, an inner roller rotatably located inside the outer roller to operationally slidingly contact with a main scale, and a ratchet system regulating a transmission of rotation from the outer roller to the inner roller, so that when the inner roller reaches a maximum rotation load, the ratchet system causes the outer roller to run independently in relation to the inner roller.
Abstract: A thread pitch cylinder gage for an internally threaded bore in a workpiece, according to one embodiment, includes a gage post having a bearing surface extending through an externally threaded sleeve. The sleeve is trapped on the bearing surface by a retaining cap at the end of the gage post. A finger on the bearing surface engages a notch in the sleeve to prevent rotation of the sleeve relative to the bearing surface, while permitting relative axial motion. The sleeve includes two collections of retaining cavities with balls trapped therein, one at each end of the sleeve. The cavities, and therefore the balls, are centered between the flanks of a thread on the sleeve, and the balls are radially slidable between a retracted and a locked position. The bearing surface includes a plurality of sloped cam surfaces radially aligned with the balls in the sleeve.
Abstract: A dimension measuring instrument has a main scale 2 and a slider 3 in a state to move relatively, each of the main scale 2 and the slider 3 having a jaw 4, 5. These jaws 4, 5 are provided with finger lay portions 7, 9 thereon, respectively. In a measurement procedure, a pair of jaws 4, 5 urged by figures held in the finger lay portions 7, 9 is reciprocally opened and closed without any spring to catch the object to be measured, of which arrangement is advantageous for simple structure and reasonable price of the instrument. In particular to a fat thickness measurement, the object portion can be almost held with fingers, so that the operator can perform by himself in the home.
