Abstract: A micromachined electromechanical (MEMS) actuator including, for example, an electrostatically actuated electrical switch, is provided, including a first set of conducting plates forming part of the movable element of the switch, interdigitated with a set of conducting plates forming part of the substrate. The plates are, in principle, vertical relative to the surface of the substrate; they are in partial heightwise overlap and a control voltage applied between the two sets of plates exerts a vertical force acting so as to move the movable element closer to the substrate. The conducting plates of the movable element are connected to one another by conducting end crosspieces connecting the ends of these plates so as to surround, laterally, the stationary conducting plates. The distance separating one stationary plate end from the mobile crosspiece is the same at both ends so that the forces exerted in the elongation direction of the plates cancel out. This distance is preferably the same for all the plates.

  • Patent number: 7616082
Abstract: The electromagnetic relay of the present invention comprises a base (10), an electromagnet (20) disposed on the base, an armature (30) supported rotatably by the base, a movable spring (40) whose one end has a movable contact (41) and the opposite end is secured to the base, a fixed contact (51) disposed opposite to the movable contact, and a card (60). The card has a coupling part (61) to be coupled to the armature and an insertion hole (62) to which the one end of the movable spring is inserted, and it deforms the movable spring elastically in conjunction with a swing motion of the armature to selectively open or close a connection between the movable contact and the fixed contact. The movable spring has a U-shaped hook formed by bending the one end of the movable spring toward the opposite end side, and the hook can pass through the insertion hole while being pushed by an inner surface of the insertion hole and being deformed elastically, and an end of the hook is engaged with the card.

  • Patent number: 7477119
Abstract: An electromagnetic relay includes an electromagnetic unit operable so as to generate a magnetic field perpendicular to a bottom wall of a housing when excited such that an actuating plate pivots from a releasing position to a pushing position, where a magnetically-attractable end portion of the actuating plate is attracted by the electromagnetic unit and where an actuating end portion of the actuating plate moves toward a first conductive plate, thereby driving a pushing block to move a resilient end portion of the first conductive plate toward a second conductive plate. Hence, first and second contacts on the first conductive plate contact electrically and respectively third and fourth contacts on the second conductive plate.

  • Patent number: 7358839
Abstract: A heavy duty relay can safely switch a current of 40 A to 1 kA. The heavy duty relay is provided with a changeover spring which can be resiliently deflected by means of a switching force and with a normally-open contact, against which a contact point of the changeover spring is electrically conductively pressed in a switching position. The normally-open contact is arranged on a normally-open spring contact, which exhibits a higher spring stiffness than the changeover spring and is resiliently deflected in the switching position, and the changeover spring and/or the normally-open spring contact comprises a deflection region at least partially surrounded by a weakened zone. The spring stiffness of the deflection region is reduced relative to the region of the changeover spring and/or the normally-open spring contact surrounding the weakened zone.

Abstract: A shouldered connector pin socket (14) is shown having an open channel (14a) formed in the face surface of a wall member of a circuit breaker housing. An electrically conductive spring member (16, 16?) is received over the channel and is formed with a first set of spring fingers (16d) that are adapted to engage a connector pin along a first axial length (14c) of the channel making electrical engagement with the pin and urging the pin against the channel surface as the pin is slidingly inserted into the channel. The spring fingers urge the flange of the connector pin into a recess formed by a stepped shoulder defining the entrance to a second axial length (14d) with the stepped shoulder and the spring fingers cooperating to retain the connector pin in the channel. A second set of spring contact fingers (16e) can also be used to engage the connector pin along a third axial length (14e) and thereby provide a redundant contact system.
