Abstract: A push-to-turn thermal cycling switch for regulating the wattage of a resistance type surface heating unit of a domestic cooking range of the electric type is disclosed. The duty cycle of the heating unit, and thus its heat output is regulated by the switch cycling on and off in accordance with movement of a switch-contained bimetallic element heated by current flowing to the heating unit via the switch. The switch cycling is determined by the position of a disc cam member carried on an axially shiftable, user-rotatable shaft having a detent means for rotatably locking the shaft at an "off" position. The shaft is formed in a single step die-casting operation. A latch secured disc cam retainer facilitates machine assembly of the switch components.
Abstract: Electrically conductive paths are selectively engaged by a pair of electrical contacts that are carried in a pair of holders. Each holder is pivoted by an actuator. Each holder also carries a spring biased detent plunger that cooperates with V-shaped cavities in a switch housing to provide an over-center feel.
Abstract: In a manual switch with thermal and magnetic release, the fixed pivots of a control member, of a latch, and of a transmission member coupled to the contacts, are disposed at the apices of a right-angled triangle, one side bounding the right angle being parallel to the direction of actuation of the control member and to the movement of the contacts, the other side bounding the right angle being placed in the vicinity of the control member.
