Abstract: A thermal protector has superiority in current responsiveness or thermal responsiveness with a simple configuration that does not need a separate manufacturing step of incorporating a resistor. At a stage of press processing for cutting from an original material, a movable plate body part of a movable plate is partitioned into a narrow-width part and a wide-width part by a slim hole. The movable plate is assembled to a fixed conductor with columns of an insulator, a bimetal is assembled to the movable plate, the entire configuration is pressed down by a resinous block, and the entire fixing part is fixed by melting tips of the columns. The wide-width part serves as a normal movable plate, whereas the narrow-width part serves as a conductor in a normal state and as a resistor against an overcurrent.

In addition, the device can be simplified because it dispenses with a separate part such as a current-carrying wire, and not requiring a process such as an installation work for current-carrying wires offers low-cost switching devices.

A first blade and a second blade extend from the interior to the exterior of the housing through the slots. A bimetallic strip is held in place in the housing and engaged with the second blade. The bimetallic strip has a U-shaped groove surrounding a tongue portion of the bimetallic strip. The tongue portion is normally engaged with the first blade. Additionally, the button has two legs configured so that the tongue portion of the bimetallic strip may be sandwiched between the legs whenever the button is in any angular position between the two extreme positions.

Abstract: An advanced circuit breaker system and method includes first and second terminals to electrically couple the advanced circuit breaker to an electrical circuit. A cam applies a first torque to a rotatable contact arm, having an arm contact electrically coupled to the first terminal, from a first position to a second position of the contact arm and a second torque to the contact arm from the second position to a third position. A bimetal blade, having a blade contact electrically coupled to the second terminal, changes shape when electrical current flowing through it exceeds a threshold for at least a predetermined amount of time. The arm contact maintains contact with the blade contact when the first torque occurs and separates from the blade contact when the second torque occurs. The blade contact changes shape to increase separation from the arm contact if electrical current exceeds at least a certain amount above the threshold.

The by-pass conductor can be extended toward the movable contact arm carrying the movable main contact to commutate some of the overcurrent into the by-pass conductor earlier in the opening sequence to reduce the energy input to the bimetal and reduce the force closing the secondary contacts.

  • Patent number: 6480090
Abstract: The present invention relates to a universal device for safety switches which is used to control a conductive strip and serves as On/Off switching agent. The attachment is slopingly mounted in the switch housing. And the push-pull body used to move the conductive strip includes a pull body and an inclined spring element above the pull body. The pull body is in a free state when the conductive strip bounces upward into a deforming position. As a result, the attachment is not connected with the conductive strip; however, they are in a pull-push switching relationship such that the conductive strip is collapsible in a manner of reverse deformation for an electric disconnection in case of overload without restraint of the push-pull body of the attachment. During the ordinary state, the conductive strip maintains the usual (On/Off) switching function. Accordingly, the present invention is applicable to all kinds of safety switches for reaching a multipurpose effect of one object.

Abstract: A service switching device is described. The service switching device has a thermal release, an electromagnetic release, a switching mechanism with a latching point, a contact point with a moving contact piece and a stationary contact piece. When an over-current condition occurs, the thermal release unlatches the latching point so that the contact points are opened permanently and, when a short-circuit current occurs, the electromagnetic release moves the moving contact piece to the open position. The service switching device has a housing and an associated actuator in the form of a piezoelectric bending strip, which likewise acts on the latching point in order to open the contact point permanently, with a fault current detection device being provided, whose output signal drives the actuator when a fault current occurs.
