  • Patent number: 4005381
Abstract: A slide potentiometer comprising a housing having a printed circuit board positioned in an interior compartment formed therein. An elongated resistance element is provided on one side of the circuit board and has a pair of terminals electrically connected to the opposite ends thereof. An elongated collector element is positioned on the one side of the circuit board in a parallel spaced apart relationship to the resistance element. A third terminal is electrically connected to the collector element. A wiper block is slidably mounted in the interior compartment of the housing and has a pair of electrically connected wiper elements which slidably electrically contact the resistance element and the collector element. The wiper block is provided with an actuator element which extends upwardly therefrom. A cover is secured to the housing and extends over the upper end thereof and has an elongated slot formed therein which receives the actuator element extending therethrough.

  • Patent number: 3982221
Abstract: A contact spring, suitable for use in a variable resistance device having a resistance strip and at least one collector strip adjacent the resistance strip. The contact spring is formed in a unitary construction from a single piece of sheet metal and includes electrically conductive cantilever spring members which depend from a base member and are adapted for sliding electrical contact with the resistance and collector strips. Stiffly flexible, resilient means, preferably in the form of additional cantilever spring members disposed in cruciform relation to the contact spring members, depend from the base member to back up each of the contact spring members by engaging an intermediate portion thereof to retard flexing of the contact spring members toward the base member. The resulting contact spring is quite simple in construction, yet produces a substantially greater contact force with the resistance and collector strips than is achieved by simple cantilever contact spring arms.

  • Patent number: 3979710
Abstract: A heating regulator which is responsive to effective outdoor temperatures and the temperature of a heated fluid supplied by a boiler. The regulator has an adjustably positionable pointer which represents a characteristic curve. The regulator includes three slide members with the pointer being pivotally mounted on one of the slide members for a translatory movement therewith and pivotal movement relative thereto. Two potentiometers are operated by two of the slide members and one of the slide members actuates the third slide member which in turn effects pivotal movement of the pointer.

  • Patent number: 3952277
Abstract: There is provided a combined variable resistor assembly provided with position indicator means for indicating positions of individual variable resistors by respective bright spots adapted to be moved by manipulating the associated variable resistors. This variable resistor assembly may find use mainly for electronic tuners, and with which the present states of the individual variable resistors for volume control, balance control, sound quality control and so forth can be known at a glance at the indicator means.

  • Patent number: 3952156
Abstract: A system for processing a plurality of audio signals to generate binaural output signals. The signal processor has a manually operated spatial position control which provides a correspondence between movement of the control and the binaural perception of movement by a listener at a listening position within an audio signal space. The spatial position control is essentially an electric circuit analog of a particular audio signal space, with means for obtaining variable binaural output signals from the circuit to simulate movement of the listening position in the signal space. One embodiment of the position control includes a mechanical linkage to a plurality of series ring connected potentiometers. The variable outputs from the wiper arms of the potentiometers are combined to produce the desired binaural output signals. The perceived orientation of the listening position in the audio signal space may be changed by selective combinations of potentiometer outputs.

  • Patent number: 3942148
Abstract: A bearing having a spherical bearing surface is attached to an opening formed at the center of the top wall of a casing. The bearing rotatably receives a spherical body having a control shaft which extends through the center of the spherical body and is securely fixed thereto. A plurality of rotary discs is spaced from, and juxtaposed on, the bottom wall of the casing. Each of the juxtaposed pairs of the rotary discs is rotatably coupled to one end of an elongated slidable member having an elongated guide slot in such a manner that the elongated member is moved transversely to the longitudinal axis thereof. Circular resistive elements are arranged on the bottom wall of the casing in opposed relation to the rotary discs. Each of the rotary discs has on its lower surface a contactor in slidable electrical contact with the corresponding resistive element.

  • Patent number: 3939451
Abstract: A balance control comprises a box-type frame, a plurality of variable resistors individually mounted on each side wall of the frame, the upper plate of the frame having a large hole, a pair of auxiliary plates attached to the surface opposite the upper plate, each auxiliary plates having a receiving hole, the large hole and the two receiving holes forming a space receiving a ball provided with an operating rod. Either of the auxiliary plates is biased by a resilient member to exert a frictional resistance on the ball. Each pair of shafts of the resistors is ganged by a strip having a slot and the end portion of the operating rod is inserted into a hole defined by the slots of the overlapped strips.
