Publication number: 20100186254Abstract: The invention relates to a rotary drum in which the hygienic status of pourable solids separated from liquid cattle manure is modified by aerobic heating in such a manner that said solids can be reused as bedding in cattle sheds. The object of the invention is to obtain a high loading factor amounting to 60-70% filling of the drum which is located horizontally for installation in an insulated container. In accordance with the invention, the loaded solid is kept in a chamber and is only transferred to the drum when there is no solid surrounding the chamber. The crucial element is a flap of the chamber which only opens and closes in this area. Patent number: 5996245Abstract: An aeration-type rotary dryer injects air into or onto a flow of materials a rotating cylinder. The air is supplied to an air duct (21) axially passing through the cylinder (10) from the outlet box (11) to the inlet box (12). The axial duct (21) is composed of a plurality of longitudinally, successively connected tubular members (22, 23, 24) each nearer to the inlet box being smaller in diameter than other. The most inlet-sided member (24), located in a central opening (32) of an inlet partition (31) of the cylinder, has the smallest diameter, so that the inlet partition has the central opening reduced and its threshold height increased. This results that the materials are prevented from returning to the inlet box out of the cylinder. The most outlet-sided member (22), located in a central opening (34) of an outlet partition (33) of the cylinder, has the largest diameter, so that a void space in the central opening (34) may be too small to exhaust air.Type: GrantFiled: December 3, 1997Date of Patent: December 7, 1999Assignee: Yamato Sanko MEG. A plurality of linkage assemblies are spaced around the drum to physically connect the tire assembly to the drum and a plurality of gussets which maintain a desired spacing between the tire assembly and the drum to allow the drum to move relative to the tire assembly. The gussets each include a gusset body having a top edge and a notch formed in the top edge. The gussets act as vanes to dissipate heat from the drum before the heat reaches the tire assembly.Type: GrantFiled: April 29, 1996Date of Patent: December 10, 1996Assignee: Didion Manufacturing CompanyInventors: Charles J. Patent number: 5579587Abstract: A recycled asphalt product (RAP) drying apparatus comprising a three-zone counterflow RAP dryer and a duct system to recycle essentially all of the hot gases back through the system. The three-zone RAP dryer has a combustion zone at one end, a drying zone at the other end, and a buffer zone between the combustion and drying zones. A RAP inlet to introduce RAP into the dryer is included at one end of the drying zone, and a RAP outlet to remove RAP from the dryer is included at the other end of the drying zone. A duct pathway routes hot air from the drying zone back to the buffer zone so that hot air may be recycled through the apparatus.Type: GrantFiled: December 15, 1995Date of Patent: December 3, 1996Assignee: JAT Enterprises Inc. of IndianaInventors: Troy R. Patent number: 5463819Abstract: A dehydration treatment apparatus for sludge wherein organic sludge and a modifying/setting agent are charged into a rotating drum and the sludge is dehydrated and dried. The apparatus comprises a rotating drum, a sludge charging hopper arranged on the inlet side of said rotating drum, a discharging screw arranged on the outlet side of the rotating drum, at least two rectangular blades that are projected from each of circular surfaces arranged toward the feeding direction from the inlet side of the inner circumferential surface of the rotating drum and are slanted downward at a prescribed angle toward the feeding direction, and an agitating/feeding means wherein the positions of the blades on the circular surfaces are made different stepwise successively in the direction of rotation toward the feeding direction so that sludge may be scraped up by the blades on the fore circular surface to be fed forward.Type: GrantFiled: April 28, 1994Date of Patent: November 7, 1995Inventor: Yasumasa Komori

Patent number: 5456024Abstract: An apparatus and a process for treating household refuse are disclosed. Household refuse or garbage is comminuted, dried and mixed with granular mineral substance, preferably sand, at a temperature of up to 1000.degree. C. and the mixture is homogenized and degassed by the contact of the refuse with the hot sand until the garbage and refuse has been reduced in volume to a desired degree.Type: GrantFiled: September 7, 1994Date of Patent: October 10, 1995Inventors: Hans Klausmann, Ralf Klausmann

Patent number: 5455005Abstract: Material remediation apparatus includes a remediation drum through which materials, such as soil contaminated with hydrocarbons, are advanced from a feed end to a discharge end of the drum. A tube extending concentrically from the discharge end of the drum into the drum forms a combustion chamber. Materials being decontaminated advance through an annular space between the tube and the drum. The tube is axially first of converging and then of diverging shape, as viewed from the discharge end of the drum. A turbo burner injects combustible gases into the tube which are burned within the diverging shape of the tube. A portion of the burned gases reflow from the outlet of tube through the annular space to the discharge end of the drum. In a zone of the drum occupied by the tube materials are heated by conduction and radiation of energy passing through the wall of the tube as well as by convective heating from the reflow gases. Hot gases are exhausted from the drum at the feed end thereof.Type: GrantFiled: October 5, 1994Date of Patent: October 3, 1995Assignee: Cedarapids, Inc.Inventors: Lawrence G. Clawson, Joseph E. Musil

Patent number: 5372458Abstract: A method is provided for treating used potassium chloride (KCl) drilling mud for disposal. The process comprises feeding the mud into one end of a rotary tube, advancing the mud through the rotating tube and heating the mud by cascading action using lifters, to expose it to a hot gas stream, thereby partially drying the mud to lumps, further modifying the lumps by contacting them with a burner flame to form clinker pellets, and finally contacting the clinker pellets with a second flame to complete the drying process, producing dried clinker pellets containing the majority of the KCl in the mud, the pellets having a structure that resists the leaching action of water. The pellets further lend themselves to being evenly distributed over fields, so that unwanted excessive concentrations of KCl can be avoided.Type: GrantFiled: July 15, 1993Date of Patent: December 13, 1994Inventors: Henry Flemmer, Arne E.
