And Supporting, Driving, Sealing, Or Bearing Means For Drum Patents (Class 34/601)
  • Patent number: 7225562
Abstract: A clothes drying appliance includes a cabinet and a drum inside the cabinet supported on a drum support structure. A belt passes around the drive pulley of a drive motor and around the drum for driving rotation of the drum in either direction. A belt tensioning device includes a pair of spaced apart tensioning pulleys each having an axis of rotation substantially parallel with the axis of rotation of the drive pulley. An imaginary line between the centres of the tensioning pulleys separates the drive pulley from the drum. The pulleys are supported on a yoke and the yoke passes around the drive pulley, with the tensioning pulleys spaced sufficiently close to impinge upon the path of the belt passing around the pulley and drum. A biasing agent such as a spring presses the pulleys toward the drum by urging the yoke toward the pulley.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method for operating an appliance comprising at least one sub-program step “drying”, which permits appliances comprising at least one sub-program step “drying” to be operated in the most economic manner possible and permits the efficient drying of items with a minimum energy consumption. To achieve this, during the sub-program step(s) “drying”, air is conducted from a treatment chamber via a conduit system, in which at least one Peltier element is located, and the air is then recirculated to the chamber. During its passage through the conduit system, the air is cooled, moisture is removed and the air is subsequently reheated.

Abstract: A burner for a gas dryer is made up of a mixing tube having an open end for admission of gas fuel into the mixing tube. At least one other opening proximate to the open end serves to admit air into the mixing tube for mixing the air and the gas fuel. A burner head is located at an end of the mixing tube opposite the open end for allowing a mix of gas fuel and air to be discharged and be ignited into a flame. A baffle is attached to the burner at the base of the burner head and extends radially outward therefrom to prevent disruption of combustion of the gas fuel and air mixture as a result of secondary air being drawn outside and along the length of the mixing tube from the open end thereof toward the burner head. An air heater assembly for gas dryer includes combustion chamber having an air inlet and an air outlet for allowing air to flow therethrough and be heated for being passed over clothes to be dried in a drum of a dryer.

  • Patent number: 6108940
Abstract: An electric clothes dryer has an irregular polygonal shaped rear wall where the apexes in the polygon align readily with the center of the heater housing to define positions where the electrical insulators are mounted to the heater housing rear wall. Raised land pads are formed from the rear wall of the heater housing at these locations and on which the insulators are mounted. The raised land pads further have radial slots that permit airflow from beneath the pad into the heater housing and across the insulator and the heating element. The apexes further provide an increased air gap for increased airflow radially across the electrical insulators. The heater housing has an air gap with the rear end head of the dryer drum which air gap is smaller adjacent the upper portions of the heater housing so as to reduce the chimney effect associated with the air heated in the heater housing.

  • Patent number: 5548908
Abstract: An improved clothes dryer construction including a metal dryer drum, front and rear bulkheads, front and rear wear rings, and a plurality of wear pins. The dryer drum is generally cylindrical and provides front and rear annular lips over which the wear rings are mounted and which coaxially nests over a support ring provided by each of the bulkheads. The wear rings, which seal the space between the lips and the support rings, have a series of openings which align with apertures in the annular lips. The wear pins extend through the openings in the wear rings and are snap-fit into the apertures to secure the wear rings to the annular lips. The wear pins serve as a supplemental bearing to support the dryer drum should the wear rings wear out over time.

  • Patent number: 5483753
Abstract: A drum dryer seal is built up of six layers of high temperature ceramic cloth that form a blanket. The top layer is aluminized, high temperature barrier yarn, to prevent air from passing through the seal. The blanket is clamped to a bracket on the non-rotating portion of the dryer by a clamp consisting of a clamping strip and a plurality of clamping bolts. The clamping bolts may also hold a plurality of C-shaped spring retention brackets, the upper leg of each holds a resilient spring. The springs overlie the sealing ring. A plunger is mounted on the spring which is positioned over a sealing ring. The plungers bias the blanket against the sealing ring. An alternative embodiment employs spring rods incorporated in the blanket which extend between the bracket and the sealing ring.

  • Patent number: 5363569
Abstract: A bearing and seal assembly for rotatably supporting an open front end of a clothes dryer drum includes a ring of felt-like material positioned between the circular open front end of the drum and a circular support flange of smaller diameter coaxially nested within the end of the drum. The felt-like material is fixed to the flange and substantially fills an annular space between the drum and the flange to preclude air leakage therebetween. The upper or outer surface of the felt seal, which is in engagement with the circular open front end of the drum, is powder coated with a wear-resistant material such as polytetrafluoroethylene. The powder-coated surface is slidably engaged by the drum and bears the weight of the end of the drum. The felt-like material acts as a sound dampener and shock absorber between the rotating drum and the fixed flange to preclude transmission or generation of undesirable noise caused by rotation of the drum.

  • Patent number: 5357771
Abstract: To permit the use of combustible and potentially explosive solvents used in dry-cleaning operations, based on hydrocarbon compounds, the dry-cleaning machine is formed with an explosion-resistant housing (8) surrounding a perforated, rotatable drum (1) into which the goods are introduced. After carrying out the normal dry-cleaning procedure, and draining of dry-cleaning solvent, a vacuum pump generates an under-pressure, in the order of below 500 mbar, and preferably about 230 mbar, while heating the mixture to effect drying. A cooling coil, located at a lower portion of the machine, provides for condensation of solvent out of the solvent-air mixture and, after the major portion of the solvent has been evaporated, the heat exchanger is switched over to cooling for final condensation of any remanent solvent. The vacuum continues to be maintained, so that the boiling point of solvent, due to the under-pressure, is lowered by at least 40.degree. C., and preferably 50.degree. C.
