  • Patent number: 8917165
Abstract: Systems, methods and computer program products for detecting and re-personalizing are provided herein. In an embodiment, the invention operates by obtaining an ID (i.e., an identification, such as a Dynamic Unique Identifier) from a RFID tag, generating a new ID, and writing the new ID to the RFID tag. The ID read from the tag is used to lookup a subject's record in a database. If the write of the new ID to the tag is verified, then database changes are committed to link the new ID to the subject. In an alternative embodiment, the invention operates by obtaining data from a memory of a RFID tag, wherein the memory has a first partition and a second partition, generating a new ID, and writing the new ID to either of the first partition or the second partition of the RFID tag. If such write is verified, then the new ID is written to the other partition of the RFID tag. The data from the tag is used to lookup a subject's record in a database.

  • Patent number: 8854190
Abstract: Systems and methods to detect cross reads in RFID tags are disclosed. Existing RFID reading mechanisms do not have the provision of detecting cross reads and eliminating the cross reads while performing inventory of an area. As a result, the user will have to manually determine the cross reads from the data and eliminate them. The disclosed method employs a RFID reader that is equipped with a plurality of engines for performing scan on the inventories. The scanned data is processed by a processing unit. In the processing unit, normalization is performed on the scanned data, neighboring assets and spatial location maps are created. The data from the above processes is employed for detecting cross reads during the scan. The identified cross reads are eliminated based on various other parameters obtained by analyzing scanned data.

  • Patent number: 8830064
Abstract: Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) tags may receive one or more run commands, prior to being singulated, that specify one or more programs for the tag to execute. A run command may encapsulate the programs, in which case the tag may execute or store and execute the program(s). A run command may alternatively specify programs stored on the tag. The tag may execute the program(s) upon receipt, upon a trigger event, serially or in parallel, and/or may modify the instructions or program(s) by adjusting parameters. A reader may tell the tag to execute the instructions or program(s) via the run command or another command which, in some cases, may be sent prior to tag singulation. A tag may, based on a result of the executed program(s), determine whether to participate in a subsequent inventory round, modify a behavior during a subsequent inventory round, or store the result in tag memory.

Abstract: A method and a data carrier for contactless communication of a reading device with at least two communication-ready applications located on a portable data carrier. A first communication-readiness signal is generated for a first application and sent to the reading device, the signal having a first identification number that is assigned to the first application and indicates to the reading device the communication readiness of said first application, and a second communication-readiness signal is generated and sent for a second application, the second signal having a second identification number different from the first identification number, which is assigned to said second application and indicates to the reading device the communication readiness of the second application. The identification numbers simulate for the reading device the communication readiness of a data carrier in each case. The reading device thus has the impression of communicating with applications of two separate data carriers.

Abstract: Methods and systems for automatic provisioning of RFID devices in an RFID network are described. A device, such as a Reader, has within its read field a special EPC Identity (ID) Tag that is specifically encoded for that Reader. When the Reader boots up, it reads the special ID Tag. The Tag has fields formatted according to the EPCglobal standards and certain bits within one of the fields indicates that the Tag is an EPC ID Tag and the data contained in the Tag will be used to provision the Reader. The Reader transmits an IP multicast packet containing data from the Tag to a network device referred to as a personality class appliance which receives the IP multicast packet. Thus, the Reader is an IP multicast sender and the appliance is an IP multicast receiver. Upon receiving the packet, the appliance retrieves configuration parameters for the Reader. These parameters collectively make up a personality class for the Reader. The personality data are transmitted back to the Reader via a unicast message.

  • Patent number: 8680966
Abstract: A method, apparatus and system for radio frequency identification provides a modulated illumination signal containing a sequence of bits configured to illuminate a radio frequency identification (RFID) tag, The illumination signal is received at the RFID tag, rectified to generate a wake signal for waking a processor which is subsequently powered by a battery. The received illumination signal is sampled and subjected to a thresholding process. Mobile telephone band interference is countered by correlating the sampled illumination signal to determine its bit sequence and then correlating the bit sequence against a predetermined key. An identification signal from the RFID tag is sent in response to a match.

  • Patent number: 8669850
Abstract: A reader and method for adjusting the transmission time of a continuous wave (CW), wherein the method comprises setting an initial value for a response waiting time, sending the CW to a tag after sending a command to the tag and waiting for a response from the tag, judging whether the response from the tag is received within the response waiting time. If the response from the tag is received within the response waiting time, then sending of the CW is stopped and the response waiting time is adjusted. If the response from the tag is still not received beyond the response waiting time, then sending of the CW is stopped. The time for the reader to wait for a response from the tag is far less than 20 ms. Consequently, a command failure can be found early, so as to improve the processing efficiency of an RFID system.

  • Patent number: 8670711
Abstract: The invention is a method of managing a NFC transaction between two hosts and a reader device. The two hosts are embedded in NFC devices and are intended to be identified by the reader device during an anti-collision phase through a first identifier and a second identifier respectively. The first identifier comprises a variable part. The method includes the steps of generating the first identifier, the variable part of the first identifier and the second identifier comprising a common pattern, looking for a common pattern into the first and second identifiers on the reader device side, and if a common pattern is found and if the variable part of the first identifier comprises said common pattern, concluding that the first and second hosts are embedded in a unique NFC device.

  • Patent number: 8665074
Abstract: RFID tags, ICs for RFID tags, and methods are provided. In some embodiments, an RFID tag includes a memory with multiple sections, and a processing block. The processing block may map one of these sections, or another of these sections, for purposes of responding to a first command from an RFID reader. As such, an RFID tag can operate according to the data stored in the section mapped at the time. In some embodiments, a tag can even transition from mapping one of the sections to mapping another of the sections. This can amount to the tag exhibiting alternative behaviors, and permits hiding data on the tag.

Abstract: A management system for a container data center (CDC) includes at least one radio frequency identification (RFID) tag, a reader, a processor, an antenna module, and a wireless communication device. The RFID tag pre-stores data as to a manager of the CDC or electronic devices received in the CDC. The reader reads the data from the RFID tag, and outputs the data to the processor. The processor outputs a processing result according to the data, to the antenna module. The antenna module sends the processing result to the wireless communication device via a wireless communication system.

  • Patent number: 8601563
Abstract: An encrypted ID takes as its initial value a tag ID that constitutes an original ID of a wireless tag, and is encrypted using an encryption key each time an ID inquiry is received from a reader/writer. Another encrypted ID also takes the tag ID as its initial value, and is encrypted using an encryption key each time an ID inquiry is received. The wireless tag gives confidential variability to the ID by transmitting a combination of the encrypted ID and the another encrypted ID in reply. The reader/writer can obtain the original ID merely by decoding the two encrypted values until they match, and the decoding load does not increase even if the number of wireless tags that are reading targets increases.
