Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention disclose a mobile messaging device that is battery powered with no hard wire connection to the vehicle's electrical system. Signage is backlit for visibility in both low and high ambient lighting conditions. To conserve battery power, the signage is lit after braking (deceleration) of the vehicle for a brief period of time. To further conserve battery power, the signage is backlit at different intensity levels which depend on ambient lighting conditions. Deceleration sensing is provided by a sensor fully incorporated within the mobile messaging device, which requires no external wiring to the vehicle's electrical system. The deceleration sensor is user adjustable to minimize false triggering. Messaging can be provided by user replaceable transparent placards or by backlit, user programmable liquid crystal display panels. In one configuration, the mobile messaging device is incorporated into a vehicle license tag frame.

Abstract: A remaining energy supply warning system provides different low fuel level reminders and warnings according to a driving area determined by a navigation apparatus. When within a life domain of the driver, low fuel level reminders and warnings may be set at lower threshold amounts since the driver is well-acquainted with the area. Therefore, the driver of the vehicle will not be bothered by low fuel reminders and warnings when the amount of fuel remaining is still relatively high considering the driver's knowledge of the area.

Abstract: A street-level imagery acquisition and selection process identifies which images are published in a street field view. An imagery database includes panoramas each corresponding to a set of images acquired from a single viewpoint. The panoramas are attached to corresponding positions on a road network graph. The graph is divided into a set of selection paths, each of which includes a topologically linear sequence of road segments. Each selection path is evaluated to select a set of panoramas to be published in the path. Panoramas of interior road segments are selected before panoramas at intersections. Selected panorama identifiers for each interior road segment of the selection paths and each intersection correspond to a position along the road network graph. The selected panorama identifiers are then published in the street field view.

The electronic display rotates with the pointer allowing the pointer to point to a face cover that is mounted to the base. The face cover has values that in one example are indicative of a range of values. Examples of value range would include vehicle speed, RPMs, gallons or liters of fuel remaining, etc. The electronic display is used to display a number which indicates a more precise value, while the pointer indicates a value within a range of values shown on the face of the cover. As the pointer rotates with the ring gear to a different speed, the electronic display pointer also changes the value shown on the electronic display.
