  • Patent number: 7400238
Abstract: A lightweight utility vehicle brake lighting system comprising a brake pedal position sensor, a controller and a brake light circuit. The brake pedal position sensor senses the position, e.g., amount of depression, of a vehicle brake pedal. The controller of interprets a brake pedal position signal from the brake pedal position sensor to determine the position of the brake pedal. When the controller determines that the brake pedal has been depressed to initiate a braking operation of the vehicle, the controller transmits a brake light signal to an electronic switching device, such as a relay switch, of the brake light circuit. Upon receipt of the brake light signal, the electronic switching closes to complete, or close, the brake light circuit to enable a current flow through the brake light circuit, thereby illuminating at least one brake light of the vehicle.

Abstract: A light emitting device for indicating statuses of a vehicle to other vehicles, has an alarming light assembly that is controlled by a control unit, wherein the control unit detects the vehicle speed and where the vehicle has a brake action. Based on the detected vehicle speed, the control unit determines the color that the alarming light assembly emits to warn other drivers so that any possible collision is avoided. Further, if the vehicle breaks down, the alarming light assembly is formed as triangular frame and emits red light as a warning sign.

  • Patent number: 6765483
Abstract: The present invention addresses the need to sustain brake lights illumination of a motor vehicle at substantially stationary state even after brake pedal is released in order to ensure traffic safety. This device employs a number of commonly available relays not only to sustain the power to the brake lights but also to monitor the state of the movement of the vehicle. The circuit is largely composed of three main sections: a power supply relay, a latching-unlatching relays and a sensor array. One common type of relays can be used to all three of these parts. Different from prior arts in this matter, no sensor on a power shaft is needed, although such device can be accommodated. Instead, simple tilting type mercury switches are used for sensing the acceleration of a vehicle. This device can be integrated with many other motion sensing devices. These sensor actions can also be blocked or supplemented by the engagement of the parking brake or the cruise control.
