Patent number: 8482398Abstract: An electronic control circuit controls a vehicle's lamp to selectively operate as a turning signal, emergency signal, or vehicle running lamp. Notably, the circuit permits the lamp to operate as an emergency signal lamp even when the vehicle is off. The circuit includes a supply circuit, a control circuit, and a disrupt circuit. The supply circuit supplies voltage to the lamp if either or both of a vehicle running signal and a flash signal have a first input value. Meanwhile, the control circuit generates a control signal having a first control value if the vehicle running signal and the flash signal have different values, and a second control value if the signals have the same value. The disrupt circuit then connects the lamp to ground if the control signal has the first control value, but disrupts that connection if the control signal has the second control value.Type: GrantFiled: October 14, 2010Date of Patent: July 9, 2013Assignee: Custom Dynamics LLCInventors: Dave Pribula, Evan J. Patent number: 8295189Abstract: A computing device configured for wireless communication may effectively control adaptation to channel conditions. The device may be configured to identify and classify conditions impacting performance of a channel so that appropriate adaptations may be made. Interference may be detected by correlating received signal strength and packet errors. High received signal strength correlated to a high packet error rate may signify presence of a source of interference. Once a source of interference is detected, other criteria may be used to determine the nature of the interference so that an adaptation that is minimally disruptive of applications can be selected. Additionally, channel degradation may be predicted by monitoring trends in error rates, including Forward Error Correction rates, and adaptation may be used before packet error rates exceed an unacceptable level.Type: GrantFiled: May 11, 2007Date of Patent: October 23, 2012Assignee: Microsoft CorporationInventors: Amer A. Patent number: 8237557Abstract: A safety light system is incorporated into the tailgate of a pickup truck. The safety light is incorporated into the tailgate and is illuminated when the tailgate is in a lowered or horizontal position and when either the ignition switch is in the on position, the parking lights are turned on, or both. The safety light can be positioned either on the top edge-rail of the tailgate, as a slide-out unit placed in a pocket with the top edge-rail of the tailgate, or as a rotating assembly incorporated into the outer sheet metal of the tailgate. Additional safety lights can be incorporated into the sides of the tailgate assembly. An optional feature includes the ability to pull the safety light out from the tailgate and secure the safety light to an object that extends beyond the length of the pickup bed. Alternatively, the safety lights can be installed in or on a bed extension apparatus.Type: GrantFiled: November 16, 2010Date of Patent: August 7, 2012Inventors: Allen D Hertz, Eric L Hertz

Patent number: 8217778Abstract: Brake light circuits for use with engine brakes for both positive switch and negative switch brake light circuits. The brake light circuits for the engine brakes do not function until the engine brake solenoids are energized. This ensures that only true brake indications are indicated. In the case of the positive switch, the circuit uses a relay in parallel with the existing brake light switch to active the brake lights whenever the engine brake solenoids are energized. In the case of the negative switch circuit, the original brake pedal switch is connected to ground. It is used to operate a brake light relay that sends positive power to the brake lights. A second relay is used to close the ground connection to activate the original engine brake relay. In both cases, diodes are used to prevent back feed through the bake solenoids or other components.Type: GrantFiled: October 30, 2009Date of Patent: July 10, 2012Inventor: Robert Kirkman

Patent number: 8212666Abstract: A motor vehicle has a hybrid drive that includes a first drive unit and a second low-emission drive unit. The motor vehicle can be driven in travel mode in different modes of operation of the hybrid drive at least either by the first drive unit or by the second low-emission drive unit. To determine a current emission of pollutants and/or substances that are harmful to the climate and/or the noise emissions of such a motor vehicle, a display device is placed at a location of the motor vehicle so as to be clearly visible from outside the motor vehicle during the travel mode for displaying a current mode of operation of the hybrid drive.Type: GrantFiled: November 18, 2009Date of Patent: July 3, 2012Assignee: Audi AGInventor: Jürgen Meurle

Patent number: 8203441Abstract: A display system for displaying an opening state of a motor vehicle door is provided that includes, but is not limited to a sensor system for detecting an opening state of the motor vehicle door. A display unit is connected to the sensor system for displaying the opening state of the motor vehicle door. A display element is redundantly connected redundantly to the sensor system is provided for displaying the opening state of the motor vehicle door. The probability of the display system correctly indicating the opening state of the motor vehicle door is thereby increased.Type: GrantFiled: March 3, 2009Date of Patent: June 19, 2012Assignee: GM Global Technology Operations LLCInventor: Dirk Bolduan

Patent number: 8203443Abstract: A vision system for a vehicle includes a first imaging sensor having a first forward field of view and a second imaging sensor spaced from the first imaging sensor and having a second forward field of view, which at least partially overlaps with the first forward field of view. A control processes image data captured by at least one of the first and second imaging sensors to determine an object present in the first and/or second forward fields of view. The control is operable to modulate a headlamp of the vehicle responsive to the processing of image data captured by the at least one of the first and second imaging sensors. The control may process image data captured by both of the imaging sensors to determine a distance between the equipped vehicle and an object present in the overlap of the first and second forward fields of view.Type: GrantFiled: November 9, 2011Date of Patent: June 19, 2012Assignee: Donnelly CorporationInventors: Brent J. Patent number: 8198996Abstract: The present provides a system which integrates motor vehicle turn signal operation into actuators located in the rim of a motor vehicle steering wheel. The actuators of the system of the present invention, one for controlling the right-hand turn signal and one for controlling the left-hand turn signal, are located in an arc segment of the steering wheel defined by the three o'clock and 12 o'clock positions for the right-hand actuator and the nine o'clock and 12 o'clock positions for the left-hand actuator. The actuators may operate in parallel with a conventional stalk switch and only turn on the respective turn signal lights when activated and subsequently depressed. The turn signal lights turn off when the actuators are released. The integrated turn signal system of the present invention further provides for turn signal operation which does not require a driver to remove his or her hands from the steering wheel.Type: GrantFiled: September 8, 2009Date of Patent: June 12, 2012Inventor: Adam Simon Golomb
