  • Patent number: 7629875
Abstract: A passive start and entry (PASE) system monitors a signal strength of a LF signal detected by a fob. The fob reports the signal strength back to an electronic control unit using an RF signal. The electronic control unit compares the signal strength to a predetermined threshold. If the signal strength is below the threshold, the electronic control unit determines that the fob may not be receiving the LF transmission due to interference and takes corrective action.

  • Publication number: 20090261945
Abstract: Provided are a passive entry system for changing a scan method to reduce battery consumption of a smart key and a method for performing a function thereof. In the passive entry system, a smart key ECU periodically transmits a low-frequency scan signal for detecting the smart key. When the smart key being in a slip state is located within a receiving radius of the scan signal, the smart key receives the scan signal and is converted into an active state. Battery consumption of the smart key can be reduced because the smart key normally being in the slip state is converted into the active state when receiving the scan signal from the smart key ECU. Furthermore, the smart key is converted into the active state only within the low-frequency scan signal receiving radius formed near an automobile and requests the smart key ECU to perform a function of the automobile, for example, a function of closing/opening doors. Accordingly, a reliable passive entry system can be achieved.

Abstract: Upon receiving a keystroke indicator signal from a remote control device, a key code generator device identifies a codeset usable to communicate with a selected consumer device. The keystroke indicator signal contains an indication of a pressed key, which corresponds to a function of the selected consumer device. Using the identified codeset and the key indication, the key code generator device generates a key code and modulates that key code onto a radio frequency carrier signal, thereby generating a first key code signal. The remote control device receives the first key code signal from the key code generator device and modulates the key code onto an infrared frequency carrier signal, thereby generating a second key code signal. • Patent number: 7515048
Abstract: Methods and systems for using radio frequency identification (“RFID”) to automatically lock and unlock a mobile computing device. An RFID transceiver is installed in connection with a locking device. The locking device can secure the mobile computing device to a cable, which is securable to a physical structure. An RFID transmitter is configured to detect a signal from the RFID transceiver within a predetermined distance range and send a response signal to the RFID transceiver. If the RFID transmitter is within the range, the RFID transceiver detects the response signal from the RFID transmitter and issues an unlocking signal to change the position of the locking device to an unlocked position. If the RFID transmitter is outside of the range, the RFID transceiver does not detect a response signal from the RFID transmitter, and issues a locking signal to change the locking device position to a locked position.

Abstract: A vehicle equipped with a passive key entry system may employ a method of controlling a vehicle power sliding door(s) or other door(s), to accomplish locking, unlocking, opening and closing of such doors. A switch on a door handle may be activated by a physical touch or touches of a user, after which, the method may proceed with inquiring and confirming if all vehicle doors are closed; inquiring and confirming if all vehicle doors are locked; inquiring and confirming if a valid passive entry key is exterior to and within range of the vehicle; unlocking a power sliding door with a lock motor; and opening the power sliding door with a door motor. Before actually performing a door opening, closing or locking, a passive entry key system on the vehicle may verify the presence of a passive entry key fob.

  • Patent number: 7501931
Abstract: A vehicular remote locking and unlocking control apparatus includes a door locking instruction switch for outputting a door locking instruction signal, and a door unlocking instruction touch sensor for inputting a door unlocking instruction signal. The door locking instruction switch and the door unlocking instruction touch sensor are mounted on a door handle of the vehicle. After the door locking instruction signal has been output from the door locking instruction switch and until a response signal from a portable radio terminal matches an identification signal for the vehicle based on communication between the vehicle and the portable radio terminal, a monitoring unit monitors whether a door unlocking instruction signal has been input from the door unlocking instruction touch sensor. If the response signal matches the identification signal, and the door unlocking instruction signal has been input, then a door unlocking signal is output.

  • Patent number: 7495543
Abstract: A vending machine uses a field-programmable electronic lock that learns a key code from a corresponding electronic key. The electronic lock has a learning process activation device that is accessible when the door of the vending machine is in the open position. Using the learning process activation device, a service person activates the electronic lock to perform a key code learning operation, in which the electronic lock receives a key code transmitted from an electronic key and stores the key code in a non-volatile memory for future access control of the vending machine. Data encryption is employed in the communications between the key and the lock to ensure the security of the communications. A communication device installed in the vending machine for communicating with a home base computer allows the operation of the electronic lock to be remotely controlled for access control and auditing purposes.

Abstract: A vehicle control device has first and second transmission circuits that communicate by radio with a portable unit and also has a control section that, when the portable unit is confirmed to be correct, engages in a permission mode that permits the start of an engine. The first and second transmission circuits transmit first and second request signals from first and second transmission antennas to first and second communicatable areas respectively. When a back door is detected to be open, the control section does not permit the start of the engine even if an ID code signal is returned from the portable unit in response to the second request signal.

If the appliance is activated by a rolling code activation signal, a sequence of different rolling code activation signals is transmitted until the user indicates a successful rolling code transmission. If the appliance is activated by a fixed code activation signal, a fixed code word is used to generate and transmit each of a sequence of different fixed code activation signals until the user indicates a successful fixed code transmission. In response to an activation input, an activation signal is generated and transmitted based on data stored following user indication of a successful transmission.

Abstract: A system and method of, and a service that employs, user authentication each employs a bluecard created by the service and stored on a personal trusted device (PTD). The system includes the service and the bluecard. The bluecard includes a unique identifier derived from a hardware address of the PTD. The PTD and the service communicate with one another over a personal area network (PAN) during user authentication. The method includes creating the bluecard and pushing the bluecard onto the PTD using an object exchange (OBEX) protocol of the PAN. The service includes a terminal and the created bluecard. The terminal has the PAN that communicates with the PTD. The bluecard is subsequently sent to the service from the PTD for user authentication via the PAN.
