  • Patent number: 9973624
Abstract: Upon detection of a trigger, such as the exceeding of an error threshold or the direction of a user, a diagnostic link system enters a diagnostic information transmission mode. This diagnostic information transmission mode allows for two modems to exchange diagnostic and/or test information that may not otherwise be exchangeable during normal communication. The diagnostic information transmission mode is initiated by transmitting an initiate diagnostic link mode message to a receiving modem accompanied by a cyclic redundancy check (CRC). The receiving modem determines, based on the CRC, if a robust communications channel is present. If a robust communications channel is present, the two modems can initiate exchange of the diagnostic and/or test information. Otherwise, the transmission power of the transmitting modem is increased and the initiate diagnostic link mode message re-transmitted to the receiving modem until the CRC is determined to be correct.

Abstract: A client/server based system provides an integrated messages system for a user having access to accounts on a number of different terminal communication devices, including at least one wireless terminal device. In a preferred embodiment, the system includes an agent that formats messages according to the formatting requirements of a receiving terminal device. The agent is connected to a wireless communications server and is adapted to receive and distribute messages, such as e-mail, from and to a multiplicity of senders and recipients, such as terminal devices interconnected over a network. Messages received from a terminal device and intended for a user may be forwarded to the user by the agent via a wireless communications server and wireless terminal device. The system enables the user to receive the incoming message and to reply to such a message or to generate an original message.

  • Patent number: 6965297
Abstract: A system for delivering page messages to paging units over a wide area is provided through multiple transmission systems. The system has a controller for routing page messages to each paging unit through the transmission system to which the paging unit is registered. Each transmission system periodically sends a system message having at least a unique identifier for the transmission system. Each paging unit receives system messages of at least one of the transmission systems when located in the transmission system's coverage area, and receives page messages from the transmission system registered to the paging unit when located in that transmission system's coverage area. Paging units update their registration with the controller in accordance with the identifier of received system messages different from their current registered identifier via user enabled or automatic means. The controller may resend messages to paging units which were sent during periods of unlikely reception.

  • Patent number: 6834179
Abstract: In the access control system, a code transmitter-end transceiver unit and a vehicle-end transceiver unit emit signals approximately synchronously on approximately the same carrier frequency. As a result of superimposition, a new code signal arises and its code information item is compared with an expected set point code information item. When there is correspondence, an enable signal for locking or unlocking or releasing the immobilizer is generated. The synchronous transmission/reception makes illegitimate monitoring more difficult.

  • Patent number: 6574479
Abstract: A paging system in which a subscriber's telephone number is used as the PIN number to identify the subscriber's pager. When a caller places a call to the paging system, the caller enters the telephone number of the subscriber when prompted for a PIN. The paging system performs a database lookup to determine the address of the pager associated with the entered PIN. Alternatively, the entered PIN itself could be used as the address of the pager. Upon identification of the address of the pager, the paging system transmits a message including the address of the pager via radio transmission.

  • Patent number: 6545588
Abstract: A pager allows the input and transmission of a virtual unlimited range of messages. The pager comprises a character display control knob which controls the sequential display of alphabetic and numeric characters on a display. By rotating the knob, the displayed character advances or retreats through the appropriate alphabetic or numeric sequence. When the character is displayed that the pager user wishes to include in a message to be transmitted, the pager user presses a selection key. The process is repeated until the message is completed. The pager may then transmit the message to a paging system by radio transmission to a base station or by emitting a series of sounds in which the message is encoded. In the case of emitted sounds, the sounds are conveyed along an open phone line to the paging system where they are decoded.

  • Patent number: 6538561
Abstract: There is disclosed an inbound message receiving system for use in a wireless messaging system. The inbound message receiving system comprises: 1) a source base transceiver station capable of receiving a wireless message from a source mobile station disposed in a coverage area of the base transceiver station; and 2) a first satellite transceiver coupled to the base transceiver station and capable of transmitting the wireless message to a satellite. The use of a satellite uplink that is closely associated with the base transceiver station allows all wireless messages to be relayed directly to a central message processor without requiring the wireless messages to be transported via long-distance lines or other toll-charge bearing communication lines.
