Abstract: Embodiments of the present disclosure relate to a method and device for beam forming. In example embodiments, a plurality of signals are obtained from a plurality of receiving antennas. The plurality of signals are grouped into a first and second set of signals. An automatic gain control (AGC) is disabled for each signal in the first set of signals, and the AGC has been enabled for each signal in the second set of signals. Then, for beam forming associated with the plurality of receiving antennas, beam weights are determined by applying a first set of signal weights to the first set of signals and applying a second set of signal weights to the second set of signals. The first set of signal weights are greater than the second set of signal weights. In this way, negative effects due to the AGC processing may be mitigated in the beam forming.

Abstract: A secure content delivery or access method may include coordination among three devices such as servers—a content management server, a delivery server, and an authorization server. A request for content may originate from an authorization server application, and may involve the application obtaining two digitally signed tokens for the request. The first token may be from the authorization server, and may include a content management server identifier for the requested content. The second token may include two identifiers for the content: the first identifier being the content management server identifier, and the second being a delivery server identifier. The first and second tokens may be signed by the authorization server and content management server, respectively, and may be delivered to the delivery server for validation. Successful validation may result in the delivery server providing a content decryption key for the requested content to a device requesting the content.

Abstract: A method and system are provided for reducing bandwidth usage in TDM CES systems conveying analog data, such as voice data. A transmitting router receiving TDM frames for packetization monitors the digitized analog data in the TDM frames. If the analog data has not changed beyond a configured threshold for a configured length of time, the transmitting router signals the receiving router at the far end of a TDM Pseudowire that no packets for the TDM Pseudowire will be sent. The transmitting router does not send any packets over the TDM Pseudowire, not even packets with empty payloads. The receiving router a receiving such a signal starts to generate its own packets for placing in its jitter buffer. Valid data already within the jitter buffer is played out to the access port, but once this runs out dummy packets placed in the jitter buffer by the receiving router are played out. In this way the jitter buffer maintains its fill level even when no packets are being sent across the TDM Pseudowire.

Abstract: A telecommunication and multimedia management apparatus and method that supports voice and other media communications and that enables users to: (i) participate in multiple conversation modes, including live phone calls, conference calls, instant voice messaging or tactical communications; (ii) review the messages of conversations in either a live mode or a time-shifted mode and to seamlessly transition back and forth between the two modes; (iii) participate in multiple conversations either concurrently or simultaneously; (iv) archive the messages of conversations for later review or processing; and (v) persistently store media either created or received on the communication devices of users. The latter feature enables users to generate or review media when either disconnected from the network or network conditions are poor and to optimize the delivery of media over the network based on network conditions and the intention of the users participating in conversations.

Abstract: A computing system is described that receives, at a particular time, notification data, the notification data indicating a threshold amount of time for which the computing system is to delay outputting an alert based on the notification data. The computing system initiates, based on the threshold amount of time, a deferred output of the alert based on the notification data. Responsive to determining that the threshold amount of time has elapsed since the particular time, the computing system outputs the alert based on the notification data.

  • Patent number: 9270307
Abstract: A method (300) and apparatus (200) are provided for operating a portable pager. The method and apparatus eliminate channel noise between paging tones and voice messages. Channel noise is squelched between paging tones and voice messages using a delayed N timer, thereby allowing the speaker to remain on. Paging tones are received and played at the speaker during a signaling squelch mode of operation. The detection of the paging tones and subsequent drop in carrier signal, initiates a timer during which channel noise is squelched during a carrier squelch mode of operation. The timer is delayed (delay N timer) so as to expire only after the carrier frequency is re-established. Once the carrier signal is re-established followed by the delayed timer expiration, the carrier squelch is removed. The speaker remains on during both signaling squelch and carrier squelch. Hence, paging tones are heard, channel noise is silenced, and then voice messages are played.

Abstract: Methods, media, and network devices are provided for detecting errors in caller identifier records. A caller name provider is identified for a terminating endpoint that is a recipient of a communication from a transmitting device. The caller name provider receives queries for caller identifier information that will be transmitted to the terminating endpoint. The caller name provider returns records having the caller identifiers in response to the queries. When the records contain an error, the caller name providers receive update requests from a calling party of the transmitting device. The update requests include changes to the records that correct the errors.

Abstract: The “RFID Paging Infrastructure” uses RFID technology to provide a low-cost localized message paging system. When a stationary RFID transceiver detects a programmable RFID tag, the transceiver reads an identifier from the RFID tag. The RFID transceiver causes a computer to determine whether a message stored in a database is intended for the RFID tag, and responsive to a determination that a message is intended for the RFID tag, the RFID transceiver transmits the message to the RFID tag. The message is saved in a memory on the programmable RFID tag. The message in the memory on the RFID tag can be read with a hand-held display device or the RFID tag can be coupled with an integrated display device.

  • Patent number: 8831646
Abstract: A network sends an indication of discontinuous reception period (ldle_Mode_DRX_Period) and an indication of number of paging groups (Paging_Group_Count). Paging occasions for a user equipment are determined by a predetermined formula. One exemplary formula is SFN mod IDLE_Mode_DRX_Period=(IDLE_Mode_DRX_Period div Paging_Group_Count) *(ID) mod (Paging_Group_Count); where SFN is system frame number and ID is the identifier of the user equipment, which can be IMSI or some value derived from IMSI. The UE's temporary ID is sent during a determined paging occasion, which maps to a paging channel on which the page is sent. Options for restricting the paging occasion to less than a frame, and for offsetting the paging occasions from that of the above formula are detailed.

Abstract: A system and method for scheduling, and reminding people receiving care (PRC) about upcoming events uses a remote computer-based interface that allows a Caregiver at a remote location to schedule the events for the PRC. The PRC has in their residence (or other location) a device that prompts the PRC, by an audio and/or video prompt, so as to “nudge” the PRC, asking whether they intend to participate in a pre-scheduled event. A man-machine interface, such as a two input keypad containing one button labeled “yes” and another button labeled “no”, the remote Caregiver is able to monitor the responses of the electronic “nudges” offered by the system to the PRC. In turn, the device used by the remote Caregiver accumulates the responses and creates a history of the level of activity the person has indicated in which they wish to participate.

  • Patent number: RE45061
Abstract: Communication between a remote locator and a transponder is used to determine the relative position of the transponder. The transponder and locator each include a transmitter and a receiver. The locator transmits an inquiry in the form of a relatively powerful cyclically encoded signal with repetitive elements, uniquely associated with a target transponder. Periodically, each transponder correlates its coded ID against a possible inquiry signal, determining frequency, phase and framing in the process. Upon a match, the transponder transmits a synthesized response coherent with the received signal. The locator integrates multiple cyclical response elements, allowing low-power transmissions from the transponder. The locator correlates the integrated response, determines round-trip Doppler shift, time-of-flight, and then computes the distance and angle to the transponder. The transponder can be wearable, bionically implanted, or attached to, or embedded in, some object.
