Frame Based Timing Patents (Class 340/7.34)
  • Patent number: 6697651
Abstract: The present invention relates to a communication system having a network (1) and a plurality of user terminals (2,3,4) that are coupled to the network via a communication channel using wireless radio frequency transmission and having a downlink channel for transmitting messages in the direction from the network to the user terminals. The downlink channel comprises a paging channel for transmission of paging messages in paging frames for initiating communication with a user terminal allocated to a paging group of a plurality of user terminals. A paging indicator channel transmitter of a paging indicator belonging to the paging group when there is a paging message for the user terminal belonging to the paging group. The user terminal processes a next paging frame transmitted on the paging channel to determine whether there is a paging message intended for the user terminal when the paging indicator has been transmitted on the paging indicator channel.

  • Patent number: 6658381
Abstract: Techniques and systems for identifying coding rates of transmitted frames are described. Unused bits in rate adapted frames are used to carry frame type indicator patterns. Maximal rate frames (i.e., with a highest coding rate) need not include a frame type indicator.

  • Patent number: 6658247
Abstract: A data reception terminal apparatus and a data receiving method suitable for a music delivering system using a portable telephone terminal apparatus. When data is downloaded with a portable telephone terminal apparatus, received data is divided as blocks. Each block is received with a data reception channel. Whenever each block is received, a received call is detected with a received call detecting channel. Thus, while data is being downloaded, a received call can be detected. When the downloading operation of data is suspended, information that represents the next data position of data that has been downloaded is stored. When the downloading operation is resumed, the data is downloaded from the next data position of the data that has been downloaded and stored. Thus, the data downloading operation is resumed from the next data position of the data that has been downloaded. Consequently, the download time becomes short.

  • Patent number: 6633753
Abstract: A radio communication apparatus includes a receiving section, a power supply section and a control section. The receiving section receives a radio signal when electric power is supplied, and the radio signal has a preamble field for storing a preamble pattern. The power supply section supplies the electrical power to the receiving section and stopping the supply of the electrical power in response to a supply stop signal. The control section generates the supply stop signal when presence of the preamble pattern can not be detected from the radio signal received by the receiving section, in a state in which a frame synchronization is established.

  • Patent number: 6480476
Abstract: A sleep cycle of a mobile station may be optimally varied depending upon one or more conditions relating to the mobile station's operation. Based on one or more of those conditions, a variable wake up parameter is determined and used to establish times when the mobile station automatically leaves a lower power mode and enters a higher power mode to listen for a page. The mobile station's variable wake up parameter is provided to a radio access network and to one or more core networks to permit coordination of communications and services with the mobile station.

  • Patent number: 6396411
Abstract: A method and apparatus that utilizes soft outputs from a paging device demodulator to perform frame synchronization is provided. The soft outputs are summed after being correlated to a first pattern associated with a paging protocol. The summation is then compared to a frame synchronization threshold. Frame synchronization occurs when the summation reaches the threshold. Using soft outputs, and a summation of the outputs based on a correlation with the first pattern, the method and apparatus require less processing, are more efficient and are more reliable than conventional synchronization schemes.

  • Patent number: 6295005
Abstract: A radio selective-calling receiver that defers indication of receipt of a call for the receiver until after a further frame when the further frame is also for the receiver. A data separating section takes in demodulated signals by sampling. When the receiver's calling number exists in the received data, a controller waits until the next frame that is also an “own” frame, to output display signals or sound signals. Therefore, at the time when the own address is being received, the informing operation can be prevented and the receiving operation can be implemented in a more stable receiving state. As a result, the deterioration of the receiving sensitivity is prevented and the effect that the error of the receiving data is decreased can be obtained.

  • Patent number: 6289227
Abstract: A method and apparatus for scheduling the paging wake-up time in a wireless mobile station. The decision to wake-up a mobile station in order to decode a slotted paging message is determined probabilistically. An initial missed page rate constant, M, is loaded within the mobile station. A measurement of the particular mobile station paging rate, R, is made over a time period T. The measured paging rate R is compared to the initial missed page rate constant M. If the missed page rate M is greater than the measured paging rate R the mobile station does not respond to the next paging slot. If the missed page rate M is less than the measured paging rate R a number based on the ratio of M to R is used as an input to a uniform random number generator. The output of the uniform random number generator determines whether or not to wake-up during the next paging slot. The measured paging rate R is updated as a running average.
