The most common methods employed to make such glazings utilize Suspended Particle Devices (SPD) and Polymer Dispersed Liquid Crystal (PDLC) films. With both, the light transmission of the glazing changes in response to an alternating current electrical field. A problem with this technology is that the voltage required is far higher than that of the typical automotive electrical system.
