Patent number: 8872855Abstract: When the device is rotated from a portrait orientation to landscape orientation, or vice versa, the display device rotates the content items within distinct respective content regions of a page template (“slots”) that each appear to stay in their same position with respect to a frame of reference of the display device. While the content regions stay in their same positions, the content within each content region counter-rotates in place to offset the rotation of the display device. Thus, the content within the content regions maintains an orientation with respect to a constant (non-rotating) frame of reference, regardless of the orientation or rotation of the display device. In one embodiment, a slot's position, height, and width in a template in a second orientation are determined from the slot's position, height, and width in the template in a first orientation.Type: GrantFiled: July 21, 2011Date of Patent: October 28, 2014Assignee: Flipboard, Inc.Inventor: Evan R. A plurality of images of an object is captured from a variety of different orientations and each image and its associated respective orientation information are stored in an image file. Upon a device receiving an indication that displaying of the image file is desired, the device detects the orientation thereof and displays the image of the plurality of images that has orientation information associated therewith that most closely matches the orientation of the device. As the orientation of the device changes, the image that is displayed also changes, approximating for a user viewing the image file the experience of three-dimensional viewing of the object. Such image files may also be utilized in association with advertisements and as search queries.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 29, 2011Publication date: January 3, 2013Applicant: MICROSOFT CORPORATIONInventors: BORIS EPSHTEIN, EYAL OFEK

Patent number: 8300066Abstract: A mobile terminal includes a first and a second storage modules. The first storage module stores a plurality of display images, layout data and resource files corresponding to different display states. The second storage module stores the plurality of layout data and resources files read from the first storage module when the mobile terminal is powered on. If the module terminal has been reoriented, the mobile terminal determines if a current image needs to be changed and generates an interface change event if the current image needs to be changed. Then, the mobile terminal reads corresponding layout data and resource file from the second storage module, reads a corresponding display image from the first storage module according to the read resource file, generates a redraw command, and sends the redraw command and the read layout data and the read display image to a display module to display a new image.Type: GrantFiled: August 4, 2009Date of Patent: October 30, 2012Assignees: Hong Fu Jin Precision Industry (ShenZhen) Co., Ltd., Hon Hai Precision Industry., Ltd.Inventors: Xiao-Guang Li, Tsung-Fu Huang

Patent number: 8209635Abstract: A technique for managing the display of content on a display of an electronic device may be based on a distance of the user to the display. The distance may be estimated by analyzing video data to detect a face of the user and establish a distance parameter based on a relationship between facial features. Based on this information, the displayed content may be adjusted to facilitate easy viewing of the displayed content, such as by changing the size of the displayed content, the layout of the displayed content, or the number of visual elements that make up the displayed content.Type: GrantFiled: December 20, 2007Date of Patent: June 26, 2012Assignee: Sony Mobile Communications ABInventor: Karl Ola Thöm

Publication number: 20120154664Abstract: A reproducing apparatus, an image data reproducing method, a program, and a storage medium each detects an attitude state of the reproducing apparatus, extracts a part of an area of image data obtained by an image pickup device, and reproduces the part of the area of the extracted image data. According to the detection result, the part of the area of the image data is changed to another part of the area and rotation processing of another part of the area is performed, thereby reproducing the another part of the area which was subjected to the rotation processing.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 23, 2012Publication date: June 21, 2012Applicant: CANON KABUSHIKI KAISHAInventor: Yasuhiro Harada

Publication number: 20120081403Abstract: A multi-display device is adapted to be dockable or otherwise associatable with an additional device. In accordance with one exemplary embodiment, the multi-display device is dockable with a smartpad. The exemplary smartpad can include a screen, a touch sensitive display, a configurable area, a gesture capture region(s) and a camera. The smartpad can also include a port adapted to receive the device. The exemplary smartpad is able to cooperate with the device such that information displayable on the device is also displayable on the smartpad. Furthermore, any one or more of the functions on the device are extendable to the smartpad, with the smartpad capable of acting as an input/output interface or extension of the smartpad. Therefore, for example, information from one or more of the displays on the multi-screen device is displayable on the smartpad.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 28, 2011Publication date: April 5, 2012Applicant: IMERJ LLCInventors: Sanjiv Sirpal, Alexander de Paz, Martin Gimpl, John Steven Visosky

Patent number: RE43235Abstract: A graphics controller for a System-On-a-Chip (SOC) used with a battery-powered device allows for reduced-power display modes. The microprocessor writes to a frame buffer that is a single, contiguous address block in virtual memory. A memory management unit (MMU) translates frame-buffer address to multiple physical blocks. The graphics controller fetches pixels from the multiple physical blocks, including a block in an on-chip memory and a block in an external memory. In a low-power mode, pixels are only fetched from the lower-power on-chip memory and not the higher-power external memory. A smaller display window is defined and pixels outside the window are replaced by dummy data, .eliminating external-memory fetches. The smaller display window falls within the first block in the on-chip memory. Status and other information can be displayed in the smaller display window during stand-by modes, while a full-screen of data is displayed for full-power modes.Type: GrantFiled: May 28, 2010Date of Patent: March 13, 2012Assignee: Faust Communications, LLCInventors: Takatoshi Ishii, Edmund Cheung, Sherwood Brannon
