Of Medium Patents (Class 347/16)
  • Patent number: 8934122
Abstract: Reducing waste in a digital printing system (200) includes moving media (214) through a web transport system (205) at a first speed. A first job is printed on the print media and a downstream finishing device (203) in a first configuration acts on the media. The web slows to a second speed prior the end of the first job and the finishing device changes to a second configuration after the first job has passed. A time to complete changing from the first to the second configuration is estimated and a time for a first section of the media containing the end of the first job to arrive at the finishing device is estimated. A second job is printed on the media prior to completion of the change based on the estimated time to completion.

Abstract: The control unit of a printer feeds paper P from a paper supply path 12 to a main conveyance path, drives a paper feed roller pair, conveys the paper in a first direction through the main conveyance path, and prints on the first side of the paper P. After printing on the first side ends, the conveyance direction changes from the first direction to the opposite second direction, and the medium is back-fed to a looped inverting conveyance path at a faster conveyance speed than the conveyance speed when printing. First and second conveyance rollers are then driven to convey the print medium at high speed through the inverting conveyance path, thereby inverting the front and back and returning the medium to the main conveyance path for printing the second side.

Abstract: A printing device and a positioning method of a printing device can accurately compensate for deviation between the intended conveyance of the print medium, and the actual movement of the print medium when conveyed. A printer 5 has a conveyance motor 32 that can selectively convey print media forward and reverse; and a control unit 101 controls the conveyance motor 32 to convey the print medium. The control unit 101 executes a specific sequence, and calculates the difference in the conveyance amount of the print medium in each direction when the conveyance unit is operated the same amount in both directions. This sequence includes changing from forward to reverse and from reverse to forward the same number of times, a first conveyance of the continuous paper M forward or reverse, and a second conveyance in the opposite direction as the first conveyance.

Abstract: In a method to execute a pause in an ink printing system printing operation in which a printing substrate web is printed with print bars having print heads, with aid of a take-up roller moving the printing substrate web at printing speed past the print bars in a transfer printing zone in order to generate print images. Upon triggering the pause, a strain state of the printing substrate web is measured at a beginning of the pause and stored as a desired strain state. During the pause, the strain state of the printing substrate web is measured as a real strain state at selectable points in time, and the real strain state is compared with desired strain state. Given a deviation of the real strain state from the desired strain state, at the selectable points in time the take-up roller is controlled so that the strain state of the printing substrate web assumes the desired strain state at the beginning of the pause.

  • Patent number: 8894175
Abstract: A method of printing with an inkjet printer including a printhead, a star wheel located downstream from the printhead, and an adjustable biaser coupled to the star wheel. The method comprises analyzing print data to identify an area of printing to be printed on a sheet of print media that aligns with the star wheel; calculating the density of the printing in the identified area of printing; printing the identified area of printing; determining whether the calculated density exceeds a density criteria, and if so then using the adjustable biaser to lift the star wheel off of the sheet before the printed area of printing reaches the star wheel; advancing the printed area of printing past the star wheel; and using the adjustable biaser lowering the star wheel onto the sheet after the printed area of printing has advanced past the star wheel.

  • Patent number: 8894174
Abstract: In one example, a first swath is caused to be printed by a print unit on a media. The media is advanced with respect to the print unit. For a nominal second swath to be printed to beneath and adjacent to the first swath, a plurality of adjustment regions along the width of the nominal second swath are determined in accordance with a profile of non-constant advance errors for the media. An adjusted second swath is formed by, for each of the regions, adjusting the height of the nominal second swath in memory based on the determined amount of advancement error for the region. The print unit is caused to print the adjusted second swath on the media.

  • Patent number: 8888222
Abstract: A liquid ejection apparatus includes a liquid ejection head, a conveyor, a recording controller, and a flashing controller. The conveyor conveys a recording medium along a conveyance path. The recording controller causes the conveyor to convey a recording medium, and controls liquid ejection from the liquid ejection head to form an image on the recording medium based on image data. The flashing controller causes the conveyor to temporarily stop conveyance of the recording medium, and causes liquid injection from the liquid ejection head based on drive data which is unrelated to image formation. The flashing controller determines timing for executing a subsequent flashing control on that, within a print enforceable period between one flashing control and the subsequent flashing control, the number of pages subjected to image formation based on image data increases with a decrease in time interval between image formation on one page and on another page.

Abstract: When a paper jam is detected, in the case where the cause of the paper jam is a CR motor error in which the speed of the carriage is decreased by as much as a load when the paper jam occurs and becomes equal to or less than a set speed, when there is an instruction to continue printing, cleaning is performed on a printing head. In this case, it is determined whether the paper position is particularly in a one-side supporting range in which the paper is supported by only one pair of transporting roller pairs provided in each of an upstream side and a downstream side of a transporting direction of the paper with interposing of a moving path of the printing head. Then, it is preferable that cleaning be performed as long as the paper position is in the one-side supporting range.
