  • Patent number: 9809028
Abstract: A printer has a print head check unit that performs an ink ejection check to confirm whether or not ink is being ejected normally from nozzles, the printer sets a flag F to 1 so as to start an ink ejection check and starts a paper feed process. When the processes has been terminated, the printer starts printing. Accordingly, ink ejection check takes place concurrently with the paper feed process, the overall time required for the processes can be reduced. In this way, the overall time required for the processes of the ejection check of the print recording liquid and an image forming process can be reduced. Further, the ink ejection check may be performed in parallel with or partly overlapping with a process of receiving print data, a process of conversion into print data, a process of ejecting paper after printing, or a flashing process.

  • Patent number: 9701140
Abstract: A system to calculate line feed error in labels on a printer includes a holder assembly under the label line feed and before the printer burn line; a first sensor and a second sensor on the holder assembly, a fixed distance, L, between them; and a processor. The first sensor senses a first position of a label edge, L1A. The second sensor senses a second position of the label edge, L1B. The processor calculates the distance, L1AB, between the first position and the second position and calculates the line feed error over the fixed distance, L, by taking the difference (L?L1AB). The processor calculates the feed correction to be done to the label, given by [(L?L1AB)/L]×D, where D is a distance between the first sensor and the burn line of the printer. The processor instructs the printer line feed to implement the calculated feed correction.

Abstract: There is provided a compact simplex and duplex printer which can be produced easily at a low cost. The simplex and duplex printer includes: a thermal head for performing printing on a substrate; a rolled substrate supply section for supplying a continuous substrate, which is to be printed on one side, to the thermal head; and a sheet-like substrate supply section, provided below the rolled substrate supply section, for sequentially supplying sheet-like substrates, which are to be printed on both sides, to the thermal head. A reversing mechanism for reversing a sheet-like substrate which has been returned from the thermal head is disposed between the thermal head and the sheet-like substrate supply section. The reversing mechanism is disposed just below the rolled substrate supply section.

  • Patent number: 9403380
Abstract: A media height detection system is used in connection with an inkjet printer. A filament is disposed above the process path and transverse to the process direction. A displacement sensor mounted adjacent the process path has a connecting member extending outward. The filament is attached to the connecting member and anchored to the printer. A transducer in the displacement sensor generates an electrical signal in response to a force on the filament. The filament contacts the lead edge of the sheet in the event of sheet curl in excess of a predetermined curl range. This will cause the force in the filament, which is conveyed to the displacement sensor to generate the signal. The print head can be elevated in response to the signal, so that the sheet does not impact the print heads, causing damage. Alternately, the sheet can be discarded.

  • Patent number: 9393810
Abstract: When a medium is located immediately under a distance sensor in printing, a controller of a printer acquires a distance from the medium to a first irradiator and a second irradiator in a direction orthogonal to a relative movement direction in which the medium moves relative to a liquid ejecting head, on the basis of a detection signal from the distance sensor. On the basis of the distance, the controller changes relative positions of irradiation ranges irradiated with light from the first irradiator and the second irradiator on the medium so as to define relative positions of the irradiation ranges such that the degree of overlapping between the irradiation ranges and the distance between the irradiation ranges do not increase significantly.
