  • Patent number: 8497929
Abstract: When a face is detected from image signals, stability determination time is set for determining if the face is recognized in a stable manner, and a period of time for which the face is consecutively detected starts to be measured. Until the measured period of time exceeds the stability determination time, an AF evaluation value acquired from a normal frame set to include a face frame corresponding to the face is used to exercise TV-AF control. Once the measured time exceeds the stability determination time, TV-AF control is exercised based on AF evaluation values acquired from each of the face frame and the normal frame.

  • Patent number: 8493461
Abstract: A precision motion platform carrying an imaging device under a large-field-coverage lens enables capture of high resolution imagery over the full field in an instantaneous telephoto mode and wide-angle coverage through temporal integration. The device permits automated tracking and scanning without movement of a camera body or lens. Coupled use of two or more devices enables automated range computation without the need for subsequent epipolar rectification. The imager motion enables sample integration for resolution enhancement. The control methods for imager positioning enable decreasing the blur caused by both the motion of the moving imager or the motion of an object's image that the imager is intended to capture.

  • Patent number: 8466981
Abstract: An electronic camera includes an imager. An imager repeatedly outputs a scene image generated on an imaging surface capturing a scene. A searcher repeatedly executes a process of searching for a specific object image from the scene image outputted from the imager by using a plurality of reference-use specific object images each of which has a posture different from others. A detector detects the number of specific objects existing in the object scene based on a searched result of the searcher. A determiner repeatedly determines based on the searched result of the searcher whether or not all of the specific objects equivalent to the number detected by the detector satisfy a posture condition. A recorder records the scene image outputted from the imager when a determined result of the determiner is updated from a negative result to a positive result.

  • Patent number: 8199226
Abstract: Methods and systems for capturing an image of a moving subject employ a camera image sensor that captures a blurred image of a moving subject. In-capture positions of the moving object are also determined using a high frame rate camera or other motion sensing device. The PSF for controlling modulation of the light hitting the camera image is successively updated by selecting, from among a plurality of pre-computed invertible PSFs, a pre-computed invertible PSFs for each estimated motion of the moving object. Light hitting the camera image sensor is modulated in capture phase according to one or more of the updated pre-computed invertible PSFs such that the captured blurred image is invertible. The resulting invertible blurred image can be de-blurred using the selected known PSFs to provide a substantially sharp image.

Abstract: It is an object of the present invention to provide an imaging apparatus and an imaging method which enable various functions using face detection to be individually controlled in accordance with scene recognition results and which achieve more favorable imaging and image processing. To achieve the object, in an aspect of the present invention, information on a photographic scene is acquired to recognize the scene and to detect whether or not a face exists in the photographic scene, and various controls are performed based on the scene recognition result and the face detection result. That is, when performing various controls using face detection such as face frame display, face AE, face AF, face AWB, face tonal correction, and the like, it is now possible to individually control how such controls are to be performed based on a scene recognition result and achieve more favorable imaging and image processing in accordance with the scenes.

  • Patent number: 8194139
Abstract: A photography mode selecting section allows a photographer to select continuous photographing. An imaging section captures an image of a subject. An area setting section detects a photographic subject based on a photographic image captured by the imaging section for every photographing in the continuous photographing, and sets the size and position of a photographic subject area including the detected photographic subject, when the continuous photographing is selected by the photography mode selecting section. A memory section stores an image inside the photographic subject area as a photographic subject image. Consequently, in continuous photographing of a moving body, the size of the photographic subject area for every photographing in the continuous photographing can be changed according to change in the size of the image of the moving body with respect to an image screen of the imaging section, thereby preventing wasteful usage of a memory area of the memory section.

Abstract: In a digital camera 1, a storing means stores feature quantities of a subject area in an image, and a search point setting means sets a plurality of search points in the subject area. Next, an updating means updates coordinates of the set plurality of search points using random numbers. Then, a weight setting means compares feature quantities of the updated search points with the stored feature quantities, and sets a weight for each search point based on similarity. Next, a sorting means sorts the search points depend on those weight, and a variance acquiring means calculates the variance of the sorted search points. Then, an angle-of-view adjusting means determines the amount of adjustment for the angle-of-view based on the calculated variance.
