  • Patent number: 7787050
Abstract: A method and system for decoding and storing encoded control data delivered via the horizontal overscan area of a video signal. An interactive device performs behavior defined by control data encoded into a video signal that can be broadcast or played-back from video tape. The interactive device is equipped with a non-volatile memory that permits the control data to be stored for performance subsequent to, or during, the transmission session. The control data is delivered as a series of control data words that include genus codes identifying the interactive device to which the data word is directed. During a transmission session, control data words will be repeated, so that an interactive device receives several control data words with the same sequence number. Based on the relative gradings, the interactive device will replace previously received control data words of lower quality than subsequently received data words having the same sequence number.

Abstract: The computer readable medium stores an executable data structure for managing reproduction of text by a reproducing apparatus. The data structure includes at least one text subtitle stream having a style segment and at least one presentation segment. The style segment defines a group of region styles, and the presentation segment contains at least one region of text. The region of text is linked to a selected one of the group of region styles defined in the style segment by an identifier. The style segment and the at least one presentation segment are encapsulated into respective PES packets. The presentation segment contains a continuous presentation flag indicating whether continuous presentation is required for the presentation segment with a previous presentation segment. A presentation start time of the presentation segment is equal to presentation end time of the previous presentation segment when continuous presentation is required for the presentation segment with the previous presentation segment.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for correcting captions in real time using a closed caption decoder/encoder with a video processing system with real time program duration compression and/or expansion that adds to and/or drops frames from a captioned video signal in real time. A decoder captures caption data from the captioned input video signal, time-stamps the caption data with time codes and transmits the time-stamped caption data to a captioning processor. The captioning processor monitors the video processing system to provide a list of added and/or dropped frames. The captioning processor, with the information captured from the decoder and the video processing system, corrects the timing of the caption data and encodes the corrected captions into the edited video output signal.

Speech signals of a speaker are recognized and converted to text signals. The text signals and picture video signals that need to be received by and displayed to other conference participators are superposed and encoded, and are sent through the video communication. A video communication system and device are also described. Users directly decode display pictures and character information corresponding to a speech. The method is simple, and a real-time performance is high.

Abstract: A digital television signal receiver (20) processes a digital television signal and auxiliary information contained in the digital television signal regardless of whether the auxiliary information is analog auxiliary information (36) or digital auxiliary information (34) and produces a television display signal (44) suitable for displaying the processed auxiliary information. In the case of the auxiliary information being closed caption information, the digital television signal receiver extracts and processes digital closed captioning information according to standard EIA-708 or extracts and processes analog closed caption information according to standard EIA-608. The television signal processing receiver thus allows the user the option of selecting a fallback method of obtaining captioning for a digital program signal if the digital program signal does not include digital closed captioning.

Abstract: An image data decoding method of an image vertical blanking interval (VBI) and device thereof can adjust a run-in clock signal of data lines of teletext to a data phase of teletext data lines. The method can accurately decode data of the teletext data lines to avoid a phase bias and an erroneous decoding result. A main technical method to decode the data of the VBI is to extract the data of the teletext data lines to determine corresponding bit logical values of the image data and then to output a decode result and also output a phase adjustment value. The phase adjustment value is used to adjust a read phase value of the extracted image so as to synchronize a data phase in VBI.
