  • Patent number: 7925119
Abstract: An image adapter transforms an input image into an output image by successively processing tiles and by changing numbers of columns and of rows of image points. The image adapter includes queue memories connected in series so as to receive values associated with the points of a tile of the input image. A module for calculating a weighted average possesses inputs connected respectively to an output of one of the memories. The module produces values sampled in a direction parallel to the columns and corresponding to the values associated with points of the input image. A sampling rate converter, connected to the output of the module, produces values associated with the points of the output image according to a sampling rate determined for a direction parallel to the rows.

Abstract: A dynamic region, such as subtitles, is detected in a stream of digital video, and displayed along with a static region also in the stream, such as a video region, so that nearly all of the total vertical display area of a monitor displaying the dynamic and static regions is filled. For example, when the dynamic region is detected, the vertical size of the static region is adjusted to allow the vertical display of the dynamic and static region on the monitor simultaneously, without extending beyond or reducing to less than the total vertical display size of the monitor. Also, when the dynamic region is not detected, the vertical height of the static region is adjusted to fill the total vertical display size. Moreover, iterative increase and decrease in the vertical sizes of the regions may allow for a more pleasant viewer experience.

The horizontal format converter buffer includes multiple parallel circular buffers that are addressable by a controller such that a variable sequence of pixels may be read from the horizontal format converter buffer to the horizontal format converter filter. The controller may turn off selected circular buffers of the horizontal format converter buffer if the selected buffers are not necessary for processing a pixel line.

  • Patent number: 7551803

Abstract: A system and process for creating an apparently higher resolution image on a display exhibiting a lower resolution is presented. The basic idea is to make multiple decimated versions of an image at different offsets in a smooth path (all of which will contain different bits of detail), and then animate through the resulting decimated images (i.e., show them in rapid succession). The viewer sees what looks like a higher-resolution image moving in a smooth path. The viewer sees this since the human eye is capable of integrating details over the continuous motion. Thus, images such as text enjoy an enhanced legibility.

  • Patent number: 7545441
Abstract: A microprocessor in a digital broadcast receiver outputs image data displaying a menu in a sub-screen when instructed by a user to display the menu: if received broadcast signals are those of an HD broadcast, and if the image format of a television, to which data are output, is 1080i or higher, and further if the screen size of the television, to which data are output, is 37 inch or larger; namely if characters in the menu are unlikely to be corrupted even when the television displays the menu in the sub-screen, and if there is no possibility that characters in the menu become too small to be identifiable. Thereby, it becomes possible for the television to display the menu in the sub-screen if the user can identify characters in the menu even when the television displays the menu in the sub-screen. Accordingly, the user can input setting of menu items while watching broadcast images.

  • Patent number: 7522219
Abstract: A system as described herein enables a user to access auxiliary information when viewing an enhanced performance television signal or program. Particularly, a television signal system is operative, configured, and/or enabled to allow a user to access and/or utilize auxiliary information when viewing a high definition or progressive-scan television signal. Briefly, an exemplary television signal system receives the auxiliary information/data (e.g. closed caption data) on a selected interlaced standard definition input, processes the auxiliary data, and combines or overlays the auxiliary data with a television (video) signal received on a selected input that does not have its own embedded auxiliary information/data.

Abstract: A digital camera and a image signal generating method capable of generating both an image signal for displaying an object image and additional information on a display component. and an image signal to be supplied to a connected external display device, with a simple configuration. Video additional information data is generated which includes in the period corresponding to the horizontal blanking period of the composite video signal digital data representing additional information to be displayed with the object image on the LCD, and in the period corresponding to the video period of the composite video signal digital data representing the object image. The digital data in the period corresponding to the horizontal blanking period is masked and a horizontal synchronizing signal and color burst are superimposed.

Abstract: A first set of display information is received at a device driver. The first set of display information indicates a portion of the video image to be displayed in a first window of a first monitor. An aspect ratio of the video image is determined based on the first set of display information. Based on the determined aspect ratio, the display driver determines a location on a second display device where the video image is to also be displayed.

Abstract: Embodiments of the invention provide an image display mode for displays, such as a television, that do not use the entire display field for displaying an image. A user selectable modification of the image display is provided, where the image may be stepped a predefined column of pixels, or predefined row of pixels, depending on viewing format, at a time at a very slow rate. The image may be stepped a predefined column of pixels per predefined time period until it is entirely to one side of the display, at which point it may be slowly stepped back to the other side of the display.

  • Patent number: 7450130
Abstract: Described is an adaptive scheduler associated with a desktop window manager that dynamically controls the rate at which graphics frames are composed. Values corresponding to performance when composing a frame are measured, and the frame composition rate is adjusted as necessary based on the values. The measured data is sampled to provide smooth adjustments. The sampled data is evaluated as to whether the current frame rate is too slow, too fast, or acceptable. If too slow, the frame rate may increased relative to the refresh rate, while if too fast, the frame rate is decreased relative to the refresh rate. In one implementation, the frame rate is too fast if a count of missed frames achieves a missed threshold value, or if a count of late frames achieves a late threshold value. The frame rate is too slow if a count of early frames exceeds an early threshold value.

  • Patent number: 7440006
Abstract: When a video display system displays an image having an aspect ratio that differs from the aspect ratio of the system's display monitor, the image spans only an “active” portion of the available display area on the monitor. The display system sets the luminance and/or chrominance of pixels in the inactive areas of the monitor to match the average luminance and/or chrominance of a selected group of pixels forming the image in the active area. This helps prevent ghosting by aging the phosphors or other material forming the pixels in the active and inactive areas at the same rate.
