For Format With Different Aspect Ratio Patents (Class 348/556)
  • Patent number: 5365276
Abstract: The present invention sequentially selects and outputs one of a plurality of video image sources 1 by an image signal source switching means 2, processes the video images by thinning circuit portions 3 and 4, writes in the video data into an image memory 5 and display the images on an image display device 6. Depending upon the detection output of an aspect ratio detecting circuit portion 12, which detects an aspect ratio of an image display of each of the video image source 1, thinning ratios of the thinning circuits 3 and 4 and a write in control circuit portion 9 for the image memory are switched in order to obtain a multiscreen display circuit which can display video signal sources having different aspect ratios.

  • Patent number: 5361099
Abstract: A NTSC/HDTV community receiving system having a microcomputer, HDTV and NTSC tuners and NTSC and HDTV intermediate frequency detectors. The system includes an A/D converter for converting HDTV and NTSC intermediate frequency signals into digital signals and a demodulator for demodulating a NTSC frame color signal into an original state and demodulating the resultant digital HDTV signal from the A/D converter into a base band level state. A first comb filter removes a NTSC interference signal from the demodulated HDTV signal and extracts a NTSC line color signal from the resultant digital NTSC signal from the A/D converter, and a second comb filter extracts a motion coefficient, the NTSC frame color signal and a NTSC frame luminance signal from the resultant digital NTSC signal from the A/D converter and the NTSC line color signal from the first cob filter.

  • Patent number: 5357290
Abstract: A liquid crystal displaying panel is formed of a number of pixels in the horizontal and vertical directions based on a PAL system of many horizontal scanning lines. A polarity reversing circuit reverses the polarity of an input video signal at a predetermined period and a signal feeding circuit samples the video signal reversed in the polarity and holds it. The signal feeding circuit feeds the output to the respective data lines of the liquid crystal panel and can feed the output corresponding to the data lines of an NTSC video displaying region by a switch to the data lines corresponding to the blank part other than the NTSC system video displaying region.

  • Patent number: 5343238
Abstract: A wide-screen television receiver capable of converting a TV signal of a non-aspect ratio into a signal of a wide aspect ratio which can be displayed on a wide screen of the wide aspect ratio and previously visually informing the user of what part of the image of the non-aspect ratio TV signal is converted in its aspect ratio and displayed on the wide screen. The receiver includes the interpolation scan speed conversion circuit, the mode setting circuit, the aspect ratio converting circuit, the wide cursor adding circuit and the wide display. The interpolation scan speed conversion circuit makes a series of processes such as Y/C separation and scan line interpolation for the input video signal supplied via the input terminal. The aspect ratio converting circuit compresses the video signal from the interpolation scan speed conversion circuit in the horizontal direction by use of a memory. The magnification processing circuit is provided after the aspect ratio converting circuit.

  • Patent number: 5331351
Abstract: A VCR or laserdisc player includes circuitry for detecting a code provided by VCR tapes, tape cassettes, or laser videodiscs, which indicates that the material recorded on the videotape or videodisc has been recorded in a compressed fashion to enable proper playback on a 16.times.9 television receiver. In response to detection of this code, the VCR or laserdisc player applies a DC signal to the chrominance output terminal of its S-Video connector. Circuitry in the television receiver detects the DC signal on the chrominance terminal of its S-Video input connector, and controls a wide-screen processor to expand the image by displaying it over the entire width of the 16.times.9 display screen.

  • Patent number: 5329369
Abstract: A wide screen television apparatus comprises a video display having a first format display ratio of width to height, for example approximately 16.times.9. A first video signal defines a first picture. A second video signal defines a second picture in a second format display ratio of width to height smaller than the first format display ratio, for example approximately 4.times.3. A video signal processor asymmetrically compresses the second picture, for example 4:1 horizontally and 3:1 vertically. A video memory stores lines of video of the asymmetrically compressed picture. Another video signal processor combines portions of lines of video in the first video signal with the stored lines of video of the asymmetrically compressed picture for simultaneous display of the first and second pictures. The asymmetrically compressed second picture is displayed without aspect ratio distortion. The second picture can form an inset within the first picture.
