Format Detection Patents (Class 348/558)
  • Patent number: 8085348
Abstract: First and second division patterns are defined so that main areas A and A? are similar to each other in shape, having the same horizontal-to-vertical ratio. Even if an image output apparatus is connected to a display unit having both first and second display screens, the image output apparatus generates an identical image for the main area A or A? regardless of the aspect ratio of the display screen. The main areas A and A? display important information and the like. Sub areas B and B? display auxiliary information. The first and second division patterns may be determined so that the sub areas B and B? are similar to each other in shape like the main areas.

Abstract: There is provided a video output apparatus which inputs a video content that can have at least three different resolutions. A format detector detects an alteration of a resolution of a video content. A scaling processor scales up the video content at a set scale ratio. Upon detection of an alteration of the resolution, the format detector selects one of a plurality of supplemental video pictures, which are prepared in advance in a memory, in accordance with the degree of decrease of the resolution after the alteration to that before the alteration. An image composition unit controls a display unit to display the supplemental video picture together with a video associated with the video content via a video display unit.

Abstract: Field order in a sequence of video frames is determined based on magnitude or relative motion of a motion vector between a bottom field of a current frame and a top field of a next frame, and magnitude or relative motion of a motion vector between a top field of the current frame and a bottom field of the next frame. Field order of two interlaced frames of a video sequence is determined by assembling two new frames from the two interlaced frames by combining a bottom field of the first frame with a top field of the second frame and by combining a top field of the first frame with a bottom field of the second frame. The field order is top field first if the number of zipper points in the first new frame is smaller than the number of zipper points in the second new frame.

  • Patent number: 8064748
Abstract: An interface is realized that can prevent video signals from being copied easily and which uses a luminance/color difference signal transmission scheme with an excellent harmony with a television circuit. In a video transmission using a digital interface, colorimetry information for defining the conversion from the luminance/color difference signal into a primary color signal and video aspect ratio information are transmitted along with the luminance/color difference type video signal. This allows reproduction of video with high quality and high resolution and also realizes a copyright protection which allows only the users authorized by key information to use the content of the video. With this transmission scheme, it is possible to provide a transmitting apparatus, a receiving apparatus and an interface which highly harmonize with a rationalized television-based circuit.

Abstract: A video standard detector and operation method thereof are provided. The video standard detector includes a low pass filter (LPF) unit and a standard detector unit. The LPF filters a baseband signal. The feature detector detects vertical synchronization information of the baseband signal and horizontal synchronization information of the baseband signal using the output of the LPF, and determines the video standard corresponding to the baseband signal according to the vertical synchronization information and the horizontal synchronization information.

Abstract: A programmable fractional phase-locked loop for generating a 148.50000 MHz high-definition television reference clock and a 148.35164 MHz high-definition reference clock from a 27 MHz crystal is disclosed. To generate the 148.50000 MHz reference clock, the fractional phase-locked loop is multiplied by 11/2, and to generate the 148.35164 MHz reference clock, the fractional phase-locked loop is multiplied by 500/91. Inside the fractional-phase locked loop however, the fraction 11/2 is represented by a denominator that is an integral power of 2, and the fraction 500/91 is represented by a denominator that is an integral multiple of 91.

  • Patent number: 7821576
Abstract: An image processing device includes a synchronizing signal separation section, a counting section, a synchronizing signal determination section, and a video format determination processing section. The synchronizing signal separation section separates a horizontal synchronizing signal from a received broadcasting signal. The counting section counts the pulse number of the separated horizontal synchronizing signal. The synchronizing signal determination section determines presence/absence of a synchronizing signal based on the counted value by the counting section. The video format determination processing section determines a video format of the received broadcasting signal based on the number of scan lines. The video format determination processing section determines the video format only when it is determined that there is a synchronizing signal by the synchronizing signal determination section.

  • Patent number: 7812888
Abstract: A synchronization processing circuit separates synchronizing signals from an input video signal, provides the synchronizing signals to a detection circuit, and further provides the input video signal that has no synchronizing signal to a scaler circuit. The detection circuit detects the horizontal synchronization frequency, the vertical synchronization frequency, the synchronization polarity, the synchronization type (Sep, CS, or GSync), the scan type, the image line number, the synchronization type (TriSync), and the vertical synchronization width from the synchronizing signals. A CPU determines the type of input video signal based on the detection results of the detection circuit. Based on the determination results, the CPU sets the signal processing for the input video signal in the synchronization processing circuit and in the scaler circuit.

The detection is performed using a threshold value to determine equivalence between a pair of fields of digital video data. Furthermore, additional threshold values may be used to control switching into a mode where duplicated fields of digital video data are identified and not displayed and out of the mode where duplicated fields of digital video data are identified and not displayed. Abstract: A video sequence may include a modality corresponding with an embedded pattern. At least one state machine detects the modality in accordance with difference signals. A signal generator generates the difference signals responsive to decision windows that define regions of interest in the video sequence. The modality may correspond with an embedded film source or other pattern types in the video sequence. Where the state machine detects more than one pattern, a single pattern is selected according to a predetermined priority. The video sequence may contain both static patterns and embedded film source patterns. The state machine discerns the presence of the embedded film source patterns notwithstanding the presence of the static patterns.

A format sample timer generates sample clock signals. A format sample counter produces “take format” signals which are utilized by a set of format counter. The system further includes a video format identifier which enables a particular video format to be directed to a respective video connector.

  • Patent number: 7788545
Abstract: A broadcast receiving device includes a card slot, a fan, a temperature sensor, a memory component and a control unit. The card slot accepts an IC card. The fan rotates to cool the IC card. The temperature sensor measures a first temperature. The memory component stores correlation information indicating a correlation between the first temperature and a second temperature of the IC card. The control unit acquires the second temperature based on the first temperature and the correlation information. The control unit determines if the second temperature exceeds a predetermined temperature. The control unit switches from a first output mode, in which an audio-video signal is outputted via the IC card, to a second output mode, in which the audio-video signal is outputted by bypassing the IC card, when the control unit determines that the second temperature exceeds the predetermined temperature.
