Abstract: The present disclosure relates to display devices, external storage devices and methods of operating the same. In some embodiments, a display device that detects a coupling with an external media device is provided. Before device coupling, the display device displays a video signal from a first source. In response to the detected coupling, the display device may mix or superimpose a video signal received from the external storage device with the video signal from the first source. In some embodiments, a multi-mode external storage device that provides a file download mode, a video menu mode, and a content display mode is disclosed. The external storage device is operative to couple with different types of hosts via a multi-use device port. In response to a detected coupling with a host display device, the external storage device adopts the menu mode, which allows a user to select a given content item for display and/or playback.

  • Patent number: 7253844
Abstract: A method and an arrangement are disclosed for synchronizing on-screen display functions during analog signal reception in a terminal arrangement that is capable of receiving both digital and analog video signals. There are provided means (312, 313) for generating on-screen display objects. Coupled to said means for generating on-screen display objects, there are synchronization pulse generation means (314) for controlling the generation of on-screen display objects. Comparison means (322) are used for comparing synchronization pulses generated by said synchronization pulse generation means (314) with a synchronization signal obtained (320) from an analog video signal. The result of said comparing as a controlling signal is conveyed (323, 324) to a process (314, 325) of generating said synchronization pulses.

  • Patent number: RE40606
Abstract: In an effective display area, an additional information recognizing part 203 recognizes a standard of a broadcast wave, refers to a ROM 212 and selects a target value, and provides an internal clock of a video data reading part 205 and an internal clock of an OSD data reading part 206 with the target value. At a retrace internal, on the other hand, the additional information recognizing part 203 notifies an additional information synthetic position deciding part 210 of the standard of the broadcast wave. The additional information synthetic position deciding part 210 selects from a ROM 211 a target value for reading the additional information applicable to the notified standard, and outputs the target value to an additional information reading parts 207. When the standard of the broadcast wave is changed, target values corresponding to the changes are responsively selected from the ROM 212 and the ROM 211.
