The signal processor receives a digital video signal transmitted in a format conforming to a specific digital signal transmission standard to perform signal processing for video display. The signal processor selectively switches signal processing corresponding to a standard colorspace and signal processing exceeding the standard colorspace. A message is displayed such that a received digital video signal corresponds to a colorspace exceeding the standard colorspace, and the signal processor is set to a function of performing signal processing corresponding to the standard colorspace.

Abstract: An image display system includes a display device, an input section to which video signals of an interlace scanning system are inputted, a signal converter section which increases horizontal scanning lines of the inputted video signals in number by a factor of at least two, and which generates first and second fields, each of the fields including effective scanning lines used for displaying and ineffective scanning lines not used for displaying, with the effective and ineffective scanning lines being arranged alternately in each of the fields, and a display control section which controls the display device to display the first and second fields alternately. The display control section controls the display device such that positions of the effective scanning lines of the first fields correspond with those of the ineffective scanning lines of the second fields, and vice versa.

Abstract: An improved method and system for two way communications between multimedia providers and subscribers utilizes encryption technology for embedding a watermark containing specific data, or a pointer to specific data relating to a multimedia program in the principal program itself. The principal program may include, but is certainly not limited to a television broadcast, cable or satellite program, multimedia over the Internet, a paging service, or radio broadcast. The specific data may include web addresses, hyperlinks, telephone numbers, advertisements or any information related to the principal program. A decoder decodes the embedded data which may point to the related data stored in a database, or may include the related data. The related data is then delivered to the subscriber of the principal program through an appropriate medium, such ADSI, Internet, or radio.

Abstract: A display system and a method of eliminating a residual image on a display causes an on screen display (OSD) block to be moved to different locations on the display to eliminate the residual image. In a method embodying the invention, a mixed video image that includes a video image from a video source and at least one OSD block is generated. Thereafter, the mixed video image is displayed on a display screen to thereby eliminate a residual image on the display screen and the at least one OSD block is scanned to different positions on an active image portion of the display screen. In a progressive scanning mode, the OSD block is progressively scanned across the active image portion. On the other hand, in a random scanning mode the at least one OSD block is randomly moved to different locations on the active image portion of the display screen for a predetermined period of time.

Abstract: According to one embodiment, in a system formed by connecting a TV and an STB, the TV determines, in updating EPG information, whether the state of the TV allows EPG information acquisition. If the state does not allow EPG information acquisition, the TV requests the STB to acquire EPG information. When the EPG information acquisition request is received from the TV, and the state of the STB allows EPG information acquisition, the STB acquires EPG information and transmits the acquired EPG information (latest EPG information) to the TV. The TV updates the EPG information saved in a memory unit on the basis of the latest EPG information received from the STB.

Each of the video monitors includes opposing top and bottom edges and opposing left-hand and right-hand lateral edges extending between the top and bottom edges. A translation mechanism couples the video monitors to a vehicle body. Abstract: A method for displaying a video signal and a display system using the same are provided. According to the method for displaying a video signal, the display system provides a setting menu through which a user can set an output resolution according to an occupancy level of a control means, and adjusts a resolution of video to be output to a display means according to the occupancy level of the control means. If video is not transmitted to the display means, the display system may display a warning message, so that a user can know the reason therefor. Therefore, it is possible to always provide a user with video optimized according to an occupancy level of a control means.

Abstract: A method and system for including non-graphic data in an analog video output signal of a set-top box. Graphics data is generated from and represents non-graphic data using software or firmware that is executed by a processor, system-on-a-chip integrated circuit, or some other component of the set-top box. The graphics data is alpha blended with video data that is extracted from a digital television signal. This alpha blending results in an alpha blended digital video signal. The alpha blended digital video signal is converted into the analog video output signal by a digital encoder function, which is preferably included in the system-on-a-chip integrated circuit. The alpha blending is also preferably performed by the alpha blending function of the system-on-a-chip integrated circuit. The analog video output signal can then be input into an analog video recorder.

Abstract: The TV receiver as a display device has a drawing generation unit for generating display side drawing data of drawn picture according to a display format for on-screen display, and a reproducing apparatus has a drawing generation unit for generating reproduction side drawing data of drawn picture according to a display format for display on the TV receiver. The drawing generation unit receives the display format information of the drawing generation unit through a connection cable, and generates reproduction side drawing data of display format based on the received display side display format information. Abstract: On an information registering equipment, content of interest rendered by media, such as a video image of interest distributed by TV broadcasting is captured and displayed. Position/area on the image are defined with a mouse or the like to obtain the target position/area. Information to identify the content is obtained from the TV tuner. Reference information is obtained through input means or by retrieval from the server for reference information. The obtained information specifics are transmitted to an information search equipment that in turn stores then into its database. An information viewing equipment obtains the target position/area and information to identify the content of interest and transmits the thus obtained data to the information search equipment. The information search equipment matches that data with each data record in the database and transmits reference information to the information viewing equipment on which the reference information is displayed.

Abstract: An automatic search system and method is disclosed which automatically displays a search menu on a TV in response to opening a remote control having an internal concealed keyboard. Since a text entry keyboard is known to be in use a streamlined search menu may be displayed without an on screen keyboard. A separate on screen keyboard search menu may be activated in a different mode by using the remote in a closed configuration.

Abstract: A graphics integrated circuit chip is used in a set-top box for controlling a television display. The graphics chip processes analog video input, digital video input, and graphics input. The chip includes a single polyphase filter that preferably provides both anti-flutter filtering and scaling of graphics. Anti-flutter filtering may help reduce display flicker due to the interlaced nature of television displays. The scaling of graphics may be used to convert the normally square pixel aspect ratio of graphics to the normally rectangular pixel aspect ratio of video.

In some embodiments, a display device that detects a coupling with an external media device is provided. Before device coupling, the display device displays a video signal from a first source. In response to the detected coupling, the display device may mix or superimpose a video signal received from the external storage device with the video signal from the first source. In some embodiments, a multi-mode external storage device that provides a file download mode, a video menu mode, and a content display mode is disclosed. The external storage device is operative to couple with different types of hosts via a multi-use device port. In response to a detected coupling with a host display device, the external storage device adopts the menu mode, which allows a user to select a given content item for display and/or playback.

Abstract: An arrangement for maintaining even tube burn-in. The arrangement identifies active and inactive display regions on a display unit when video content is displayed on the display unit. When inactive display regions are identified the arrangement monitors the duration that the active display regions remain active. After the active display regions become inactive and a predetermined time period has passed the arrangement displays a corrective image on the identified inactive regions. The predetermined time period may be set by a user or based on the user's viewing habits.
