The method includes receiving, at the bidirectional remote controller, menu information from a display apparatus; generating, at the bidirectional remote controller, a menu screen based on the received menu information for controlling the display apparatus; and displaying the generated menu screen on a display of the bidirectional remote controller.

Abstract: Techniques include outputting a graphical user interface including a widget and any combination of objects on a television. Thereafter one or more key events may be received from a remote control. The graphical user interface can be updated by moving the widget in response to each direction key activation if the one or more key events indicate activation of one or more direction keys on the remote control. In addition, a function designated by a given object may be initiated in response to the activation of the enter key if the widget is determined to be proximate the given object.

Abstract: A display screen includes a video region in contact with a left side section of the display screen for performing a scaling display of an input video; a top region at the uppermost part of the display screen for displaying a plurality of items capable of being selected by a user; and a side region provided to the right or left of the display screen for displaying a plurality of items set at a lower level than an item selected by the user. Among the plurality of items displayed in the side region, an item currently selected by the user is so displayed as to be discriminated from the other items. After the item selected has been discriminatively displayed for a prescribed time period, a guidance describing the item being selected is displayed in the side region close to the item selected.

Abstract: In some embodiments, an apparatus includes interface circuitry to receive signals including video signals and drawing commands, and a command interpreter to receive the drawing commands and provide on screen display (OSD) signals in response to the drawing commands. Video processing circuitry processes the received video signals to provide processed video signals, and a blender to blend the OSD signals and the processed video signals to produce blended video signals including the OSD signals and the processed video signals. Abstract: Disclosed are a display apparatus and a control method thereof, the display apparatus including: a signal receiver which receives a video signal; an image processor which processes the video signal received by the signal receiver; a display unit which displays an image on the basis of the video signal processed by the image processor; a function selector which senses a user's operation for selecting a plurality of functions provided by the display apparatus; and a controller which displays an on screen display (OSD) menu for selecting the plurality of functions on the display unit in accordance with a user's first operation entering within a predetermined distance from the function selector, and operates one selected among the plurality of functions in accordance with a user's second operation. With this, it is possible to provide an intuitive, convenient and reliable user interface for selecting a plurality of functions even under spatial limitations.

Abstract: The present invention provides an image processing device capable of realizing appropriate color expression without requiring a large increase in data amount of image data for displaying a composite screen. A television broadcast receiver (1) includes a synthesis processing section (40) and an OSD processing section (24) for creating an OSD plane C as a composite screen in index color expression by combining an OSD plane U and OSD plane L, which are display screens in the index color expression. By the processing section (40) and the OSD processing section (24), the OSD plane C for attaining a display effect in which the OSD plane U and OSD plane L are superimposed is created.

Abstract: A transceiver comprises a transmitter that converts a plurality of data components into serial data in response to a first clock signal and transmits the serial data, and a receiver that receives the serial data and converts the serial data into the plurality of data components in response to a second clock signal generated from the serial data. The transmitter adds at least one dummy bit to the serial data at predetermined intervals. The at least one dummy bit includes information regarding a data type of the plurality of data components.

Abstract: A prediction means for predicting a maximum delayed change time, which is the longest in a change time which allows a next program to be displayed, if a channel is selected to change the current program to the next program; and a display control means, by which, from a reception completion time when the reception of the current program has been completed, a relevant program is displayed on the basis of original program data remaining in a buffer at the relevant reception completion time, and at the same time, the reproduction speed of the display is based on a speed at which the current program is displayed during the period between the reception completion time and a maximum delayed change time.

Abstract: Provided are a method of controlling a resolution desired by a user in a graphics device of a digital data broadcasting receiver, an apparatus therefor, and a digital data broadcasting receiver using the same. The method includes providing a list of resolutions available on a graphic plane to a user; changing a resolution of the graphic plane according to a resolution selected by the user from the resolution list; and displaying an application on the graphic plane, the resolution of which has been changed.

An input video signal is received, in which a single period of the input video signal has a plurality of first input frames and a plurality of second input frames. The input video signal is processed, so as to generate an output video signal, in which a single period of the output video signal has a plurality of first output frames and a plurality of second output frames, and an amount of the first output frames is the same as an amount of the second output frames. A sum of the amount of the first output frames and the amount of second output frames is an integer multiple of a sum of an amount of the first input frames and an amount of the second input frames.

Abstract: A broadcast receiving apparatus and a method for performing manual fine tuning (MFT) are provided. The broadcast receiving apparatus includes a signal processor which processes a broadcast signal of a tuned channel; a image generator which generates a manual fine tuning (MFT) image on which an optimal frequency of the tuned channel is to be tuned; a display which displays the MFT image; and a controller which, if a signal requesting adjustment is received, determines whether the broadcast signal is blocked and whether to re-tune the tuned channel using an adjusted optimal frequency based on a result of the blocking determination. The method includes processing a broadcast signal of a tuned channel; receiving a signal requesting adjustment; determining whether the broadcast signal is blocked; and determining whether to re-tune the channel using an adjusted optimal frequency based on a result of the determining.

Devices that failed to obtain physical addresses also can be depicted so indicating, and HDMI physical addresses and device types of each device may also be indicated. Furthermore, the path currently in use from an active source to the active sink is shown, as are alternate AV paths. At the initial setup or when new devices are to join the network, the graphic representation can be automatically presented, if desired with help text on screen to guide the user. A debug/information button is provided to the user in the case the devices are not functioning correctly.

Abstract: A method and system for controlling operation of one or more electronic devices of an audio-video system with a separate remote controller via a feedback mode of operation are provided. A command code signal is received with a receiver of a signal processing electronic device which interprets the command code signal to determine a particular action being requested. Thereafter, a request for feedback is generated in at least one of a visual form or an audible form for purposes of confirming the particular action being requested before the action is actually executed. If appropriate feedback via a further communication is received with the receiver of the signal processing electronic device within a predetermined time period following the request for feedback, the action is performed and executed by the signal processing electronic device. Otherwise, no action is executed by the signal processing electronic device.

Abstract: A storage medium for storing text-based subtitle data including style information, a reproducing apparatus and methods are provided for reproducing text-based subtitle data including style information separately recorded on the storage medium. The storage medium includes: multimedia image data; and text-based subtitle data for displaying subtitles on an image based on the multimedia image data, wherein the text-based subtitle data includes dialog information indicating subtitle contents to be displayed on the image, style information indicating an output style of the dialog information, and partial style information indicating an output style applied to a portion of the dialog information. Accordingly, subtitles can be provided in a plurality of languages without limited to the number of units of subtitle data. In addition, subtitle data can be easily produced and edited. Likewise, an output style of the subtitle data can be changed in a variety of ways.

Abstract: A method and a device for processing a menu of an external device, and a TV receiving device are disclosed. By associating a displaying position of a menu of an external device of a display device with interface position information of an external interface, the present disclosure allows the menu of the external device to be displayed at an insertion position of the TV receiving device (i.e., a position corresponding to the external interface) so that the user can clearly know the using conditions of the external interface. This makes the TV receiving device intuitive and convenient to use.

Abstract: A method for labeling input sources in a display device includes connecting to a plurality of input sources, at a plurality of input terminals within the display device, and then controlling display of a main input menu listing the input terminals and corresponding ones of the input sources. An image from one of the input sources or input terminals selected from the main input menu is displayed with a name of the input source and a name of the input terminal corresponding to the selection made from the main input menu. In the present invention, the OSD image is enabled for showing a setting menu of the display apparatus. The setting menu includes many items. If the selected item is valid, a function corresponding to the selected item is executed. If the selected item is not valid, a suggestive block is displayed on the OSD image.
