Abstract: A method for providing tracking error signals in an optical data storage system includes a step of receiving a wobble signal having a first frequency from the wobble detection system. The wobble detection system includes an optical pick up unit that detects positions of the head relative to lands and grooves. Characteristically, the wobble signal is amplitude modulated for positions intermediate between the land and the groove. The method further includes a step of receiving a primary tracking error signal from the wobble detection system. The wobble signal is multiplied with a synchronous signal to about a product signal. The product signal is positive for a first direction of motion and negative for a second direction of motion that is opposite that of the first direction. The product signal is integrated to obtain a quadrature track error signal.

Abstract: Provided are decoding methods and decoders for separating luminance and chrominance components of a video signal. In one aspect, a reference subcarrier of a first line of the video signal is used for subsequent lines by applying an appropriate rotation to the reference subcarrier of the first line for each subsequent line. In another aspect, comb filtering is adaptively controlled based on determining whether 90 or 180 degrees relationship is maintained from line to line. In a further aspect, both complimentary and non-complimentary comb filtering are implemented. In yet another aspect, SECAM bell filtering is achieved by rotating the video signal to obtain a baseband signal, low-pass filtering and modulating the baseband signal, and subtracting the modulated low-pass filtered baseband signal from the video signal to notch the chroma component from the luma component.

  • Patent number: 6999093
Abstract: A background (sky box) in a video game or other virtual reality environment dynamically changes as a function of a parameter, producing a more realistic display. Luminance-only texture and color texture data are employed to create the background. The color texture data are provided as a lookup table in which one axis of the lookup table corresponds to time or another variable, and the other axis indicates the colors of pixels in the display as a function of the altitude or azimuth of the pixels. The luminance-only texture data are thus modulated by the chrominance values from the color texture data for pixels in the background. Optionally, one of a plurality of two-dimensional color textures can be selected as a function of the variable and applied to the luminance-only texture data.

  • Patent number: 6947096
Abstract: A chroma-decoder 1 has two SRCs 17 and 21. The first SRC 17 performs down-conversion, changing the sampling rate of a composite video signal sampled with a system clock signal Cs to the sampling rate (14.3 MHz) of an NTSC signal. The signal generated by the SRC 17 is output in synchronism with the system clock signal Cs. The signal is then divided into a luminance signal Y and a color-difference signal C, which are subjected to chroma decoding. The second SRC 21 performs down-conversion, changing the sampling rate of the luminance signal and color-difference signal of the NTSC signal to the sampling rate (13.5 MHz) of an ITU-R601 standard.

  • Patent number: 6943847
Abstract: A SECAM decoder and an FM modulator therefor are disclosed, in which a demodulated color signal is provided to indicate deviations in the frequency of modulated color information from a nominal subcarrier frequency. The demodulator comprises numerator and denominator filters operating on the modulated color information, and a divider providing a ratio result by dividing the numerator filter output by the denominator filter output. The demodulator may include two sets of numerator and denominator filters offset in phase from one another, where one of the two sets is selectively employed in order to mitigate divide-by-zero problems. Also disclosed are methods for demodulating digitized FM color signals in a SECAM decoder.

Sub-pixel sampling to determine samples at the correct position is incorporated in the image scaling filter (502). The filter response is such that the useful resolution inherent in the color matrix display device (100) can be used. In the filter design, a trade-off is made between sharpness and color errors.

  • Patent number: 6690430
Abstract: A chrominance signal demodulation circuit capable of precisely processing a chrominance signal demodulation even when a phase of an inputted chrominance signal is abruptly changed due to a tape track skew error. A first and second color difference signals in an R-Y axis and B-Y axis directions are obtained by multiplying a color burst signal of the inputted chrominance signal and color subcarrier signals generated by a color subcarrier generator. A demodulation phase detector 17 generates a phase error signal to compensate a phase difference between the phases of the color burst signal and the color subcarrier signal based on the first and second color difference signals obtained. The color subcarrier generator 12 generates color subcarrier signals compensated responsive to the phase error signal. Thereby, a chrominance information portion following to the color burst signal in the inputted chrominance signal is successively processed with a chrominance signal demodulation with a correct phase.
